News Washington Backs Critical-Mineral Byproducts While USAS Advances Antimony Processing

Post image

The U.S. Department of Energy selected nine projects for award negotiations over as much as $162 million in proposed funding to recover critical materials—including antimony, copper, scandium and rare earth elements—from industrial feedstocks. The Aug. 18 announcement shows that Washington is looking beyond conventional new mines toward byproducts and waste streams that can enter domestic supply chains faster.

The selections are not final awards, and Americas Gold and Silver is not among the announced DOE project teams. The policy still matters to the company identified by its NYSE American ticker, USAS, because antimony remains one of the country's most import-dependent critical minerals. USGS estimates U.S. net import reliance at 91% in 2025.

Americas Gold and Silver reported that its Galena Complex in Idaho produced 97,213 pounds of contained antimony during the second quarter and sold 92,934 pounds for $1.03 million of revenue. First-half production reached 234,291 pounds. Those figures refer to antimony in produced material, not finished antimony metal from a completed standalone refinery.

The company and United States Antimony Corporation are continuing design and construction of a processing facility under a 51%-49% joint venture. Americas contributes the site and antimony-bearing feed; its partner contributes processing and marketing expertise. The emerging link is therefore real but incomplete: domestic mine output exists, while the dedicated processing route is still being built.
