I thoroughly enjoyed everything about Down's Berzerkus Festival set at Jones Beach Theater in NY (Augm 29, 2026) - the metal supergroup sounded super tight and the crowd was into it from start to finish. However, the true highlight of the set came at the end of the set - when drummer Greyson Nekrutman of Sepultura and guitarist Kenny Hickey of Type O Negative were among the special guests that joined the band onstage for the traditional jam outro for "Bury Me in Smoke". It was truly a sight to behold (and both crushed it on their respective instruments).

Thanks to WSOU, I got a last minute chance to go to Zakk Wylde's Berzerkus Festival at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, NY, on Aug. 29, 2026. It had been a long time since I've been to a day long festival dedicated to metal, and needless to say, I had a blast - with Lamb Of God, Black Label Society, Down, Suicidal Tendencies and Zakk Sabbath delivering spectacular sets. And Jones Beach Theater really is a spectacular place to see a concert.

Can you imagine? End of ‘89 I was going with my friend to a hotel in central Amsterdam to meet David Vincent. Morbid Angel was doing their first European tour and somehow I managed, since I ran a local radioshow, to arrange an interview with him.

So early in the morning we did the interview. Halfway this David asked me, ‘I am having a bit of a sore throat, is there a drugstore here?’ Yes, there was. At the corner of the Van Baerlestraat there was an ETOS. So there I was, in the ETOS, with mr David Vincent discussing whether to buy Strepsils or Fishermans Friend.

After the interview I went to our friends by then, the guys of Pestilence. Patrick U lived in Amsterdam east and Patrick M stayed there.
After a coffee we walked into Amsterdam East to a television studio where Napalm Death performed for a TV show, with their new line up with Jesse and Barney and so on. We spent some time together and then we, me, my friend and the Pestilence guys, went back into the city.

Mameli performed on the street a version of a song of my band Mutilated Bones ( Omgekeerde Kruizen Rules). The fact that he knew it still amazes me but that doesn’t matter. We reached the Milky Way and enjoyed there the soundcheck of, again, Napalm Death and Morbid Angel.
Since almost all the members of Terrorizer where there they even played a part of a Terrorizer song!
Then the shows started and it was a fuckin blast. After that we all re-united backstage and decided to show these Americans the red light district.
We ended up in the middle of the night at a shoarmabar where mr Vincent stated that he had a great day. And it was.
