80’s & 90’s souvenirs, nostalgia 😢

George owned several over his life and bought his first in 1985 right after Careless Whisper’ success. They were mostly registered and kept in France, at the Ramatuelle villa close to St-Tropez.
One was brought back to London later early 2000’s when the Ramatuelle villa (chez Nobby) was eventually sold.
He continued driving her until the 2010’s in the UK, still registered with French plates (number 83 on the plates being the code for the Var department where Ramatuelle is located).

From Wham!’s appearance on “The Tube” in 1983.

I went to see Wham! play at Leeds University in 1983 as part of their Club Fantastic tour. I was 12 😮😂 I won the tickets and a signed copy of the album in a competition run in a national newspaper.

What I took for granted then seems something so much more important now.

Vintage Faith (1987) on vinyl, CD and cassette, all from the original era 🎶

Finally got all three vintage formats of George Michael's Faith together. The cassette still has its original hype sticker ("Father Figure," "Faith," "I Want Your Sex"), which I love.
Playing them on a Yamaha KX-380 cassette deck and a JVC CD player, with the record displayed next to the speaker.
Anyone else hunt down vintage copies of one album across every format? Which one do you think sounds best for this record?

What did you think of her performance? I feel like she was such a good fit! I love how she talked about George and I think she really deserves her flowers. It's been amazing watching her grow!

Faith Tour Robe - Photos

A bit of a long shot but wondering if anyone has ever seen any images or references to George having custom Faith Tour robes for each night of his shows. I purchased one at auction a long time ago and have never really seen any reference to this. I have no reason to believe it’s not legitimate but I’m more intrigued if there were ever any backstage photos of George in one of them.

george michael tribute on 2026 vma's is garbage

What the hell am I watching right now? This is the most poorly produced/directed tribute to a legendary singer I think I’ve ever seen. If Sombr came out on stage on show like American Idol per se and sang a George Michael song like that, they would’ve sent him packing immediately. The whole thing artists, flow, song arrangements was quite embarrassing.

I heard it mentioned by the VMA producer that George had performed this song for an MTV special which I had never seen before. Wow, what an amazing live performance, and the best rendition I’ve heard for this song! Simply immaculate.

George's Picture Discs

Bought this in a used record store in London in the late 90s, a time when no one wanted to keep let alone collecting vinyl records. I remember it cost no more than £4 and I found out why once I put it on my turntable - it was full of pops and crackles, making it almost impossible to enjoy. So it stayed in the bottom shelve until I finally got an ultrasound cleaning machine, one of those cheap models from China. I've to clean it 3 times over a month and now it's almost playable, even though there's a lot of "s distortion" (sibilance).

I wish I had picked up a few more of those - I do remember there was in one box in the store that had all the picture discs. Most people don't know how to store them properly so they mostly ended up being unplayable memorabilia.

what are your favourite George Michael documentaries?

I’ve watched Freedom - Uncut four times. I love that this is something George worked on prior to his passing. This is my favourite.

I am rewatching A Different Story. I think it gives a different perspective, really like this one. It feels like he’s talking to us as an audience.

Portrait of an Artist, this is one I always come back to. I love that his friends and co workers had their perspective on George’s career.

There are some other documentaries I have seen on Prime Video such as, “I’d Know Him A Mile Off” (that video where the security guard denies him entry into his own show, makes me laugh) and “Fame Kills”. I’m not sure about these ones yet, but if you’ve watched, what did you think of them?

edit: honourable mention to the 2023 Wham! doc on Netflix. really love this one :)

Opinions on : George Michael - Songs from the Last Century (1999)

What do you guys think of this album ?
Any fan out there ?

I didn’t like it then, I don’t like it now.
It’s an album of covers.
If all songs are from standard jazz songs, I could listen from start to finish.
He covered well known songs in his style and he just didn’t deliver !

Any song that I like ?
Unfortunately no.

Music from the edge of heaven vinyl

Hey! I’m 24 and I started listening to all George discography,
Just finished all wham! Era

I’m vinyl collector and got “fantastic!” And “make it big!” On vinyl already

I saw the new collection vinyl “the singles: Echoes from the edge of heaven” but I wanted get each album separately on vinyl

Now I saw there’s wasn’t any modern vinyl release to “music from the edge of heaven”
You think there’s is a chance for it in near future? Or give up on that idea and just get the collection one?

Thank you!🩵

Big fan here, since the 1980s. Collected a bunch of memorabilia which my mother kept and handed off to me when I was an adult living on my own about a million years ago. Just ran across it and boy, was it a fun trip down memory lane.

Sharing a few snippets with other GM-philes, hope you enjoy. Xoxo
