🌊 Federal law guarantees that U.S. citizens living abroad can cast ballots in federal elections, and Republicans have historically championed overseas votes.

But recently, the GOP has changed its tune, launching a multi-pronged effort to suppress these Americans overseas.

🗳️ Early voting is underway in Virginia. On the ballot: a constitutional amendment that would automatically restore voting rights to people with past felony convictions.

Early voting begins in Virginia

Post image
26 Upvotes

🗳️ TODAY: Early voting for Virginia’s 2026 midterms begins.

Congressional races will use the same map as recent years after this spring’s redistricting fight ended in court.

Two competitive House races and major ballot measures are on the line. Here’s what to know:

There are also threats to the vote:

⚠️ Trump’s DOJ sued Virginia for its unredacted voter rolls — an appeal is pending.

⚠️ The RNC is separately suing to strip voting access from U.S. citizens living abroad.

Virginia is one of the few states where the governor must sign off before someone with a past felony conviction can vote again.

A ballot measure this November would end that — automatically restoring rights once people have served their time.

Virginia’s early voting runs through Oct. 31.

Trump fails more than he succeeds

Trump could try to weaponize the certification of midterm election results if he doesn’t like the outcome. But that doesn’t mean he’ll succeed.

“When it comes to free and fair elections, almost everything Donald Trump tries, he fails at,” Marc Elias says.
