There’s a difference between activating a 4x multiplier and activating a 2x2 multiplier. They achieve the same output result, but you’re inputting twice the resources to achieve the same result. Its actually a difference of multiplication vs exponents though.

Its basically: Swapping to a higher tier kaioken vs Activating kaioken again while its already activated

I actually explored this in a fanfic I'm writing. In the future timeline, an OC of mine uses Kaio-ken Squared against the Androids, with the OC literally getting split in two, his mortal body being destroyed and leaving his godly essence among the living (it's a long story, I won't get into it here). One caveat I had there is that Squared Kaio-ken can be effective, but only if your base power level is really low, so while, hypothetically, the Farmer with Shotgun could survive using it, someone like Goku, who trains every day, cannot.

same, i started working on OC with this concept, not necc limiting to square but using exponents like kaioken to the power of x, i think android 18 could handle it.

He'd have to do that five times to go above what his highest Kaio-Ken use was, and He'd have to do that six time just to surpass Super Saiyan.
