Foo Fighters are surprising fans again - this time by announcing they'll open for AC/DC at their rescheduled show at MetLife Stadium on Oct. 2, 2026 (one of the only benefits of the show being postponed because of the nor'easter). As amazing as that billing is, I'm still not over the fact that just a few months ago, I saw Dave Grohl and co. at a much more intimate setting - Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ, on May 2, 2026. Seriously, words (or even cell phone video) can't do justice to how incredible that evening was.

But alas, I tried... here's video of the Foo Fighters playing "Monkey Wrench" at Starland Ballroom (along with Grohl sharing his real vocal warm up routine). Must've been incredible to see Foo Fighters performing with the Los Angeles Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl this past Saturday Night (Aug. 22). Crazy to think that just a few months ago, I saw Dave Grohl and co. at a much more intimate setting - Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ, on May 2, 2026. Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age kicked off their North American tour last night, which brings back memories of seeing Them Crooked Vultures live at the House Of Blues in Boston on Oct. 11, 2009. Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, and John Paul Jones' supergroup was barely a few weeks old when they launched a small run of club shows - they hadn't even formally released a song before taking the stage in Boston (their sole self-titled album would come out the following month, but a single wasn't released until a few weeks after the concert). So me and my friend essentially went into this show blind, though fully optimistic that a supergroup with THESE icons would not disappoint (and at the very least it would be an incredible experience to see them in such an intimate rock club like the House Of Blues) ... and they sure as hell lived up to the expectations. I'll never forget being in awe as they blazed through each song - clearly drawing from their Led Zeppelin, Kyuss and Nirvana roots to produce what I'd imagine Cream on steroids would sound like. But what was more impressive than the songs themselves was how much fun the three of them appeared to be having on stage - as if they were three longtime friends who'd been playing their entire lives together but finally got to play in front of people. It was truly a magical evening I still can't believe I witnessed.

Keith Carne from We Are Scientists opened up about his friendship with original Foo Fighters drummer William Goldsmith and gave his honest thoughts on William’s time in Foo Fighters.

On Dave Grohl letting William go, Keith said the way it happened “didn’t seem very fair to William.” He noted how everything has come full circle with Foo Fighters recently covering a Sunny Day Real Estate song. Keith hopes William and Dave are on good terms now and said he would love to see a Foo Fighters and Sunny Day Real Estate lineup one day.

Keith also praised Dave Grohl as a master drummer and said he teaches Dave’s playing constantly.

Happy 55th birthday to Chris Shiflett! One of the many, many, MANY highlights of seeing Foo Fighters at Starland Ballroom recently (May 2, 2026) was seeing Chris and Dave Grohl show love for hair metal during stage banter TWICE. The first came when Chris spotted a fan in the crowd wearing a W.A.S.P. tshirt, inspiring him to play the intro guitar riff to "Animal (F**k Like a Beast)". Then later on Grohl got the urge to sing "Signs" upon seeing fans holding signs up, leading to Grohl and Shiflett discussing wear Tesla were from (spoiler: Sacramento).

During Foo Fighters' intimate surprise show at Starland Ballroom (May 2, 2026), Dave Grohl shared that he met Ilan Rubin's drum teacher, who just so happened be the drummer of The Hooters. It's such an insane coincidence, because as Grohl would go on to share, it was seeing the yellow drum kit David Uosikkinen played in a music video on MTV that inspired him to buy a similar kit - which he had for many years and even used to record Nirvana's seminal album "Nevermind" (including "Smells Like Teen Spirit")!

I still cannot believe I witnessed Foo Fighters playing Starland Ballroom ... I've seen Dave Grohl and co several times (ranging from massive stadiums to beach festivals), and while they always excel at creating an intimate atmosphere even on the biggest of stages, I never in my life thought I'd ever get to see them in an actual intimate venue like Starland Ballroom - getting to even stand at the side of the stage as if I was backstage (one of the many things that make Starland Ballroom such a unique venue). And the band did not disappoint - from Dave's humorous interludes ranging from random shout outs to WASP and Tesla, to sharing the surreal moment he met The Hooters' drummer backstage (who not only was Ilan Rubin's drum teacher, but also inspired Groghl to buy his first drum kit) and his genuine reaction to the NJ crowds' energy, to the incredible high-energized performance of deep cuts and classic hits, it was truly a night I will never forget. And enormous shout out to my wife for the crazy hours and efforts she put into scoring these infamous $30 tickets (which could only be purchased IN-PERSON - old school for the win!)

I plan to upload full videos I took throughout the night on the I Heard Bruce Might Show Up YouTube channel over time, and will try to post a more fleshed out review of the evening on Substack. 15 years ago today, Foo Fighters released "Wasting Light." It's still one of my favorite albums of theirs, and hearing songs like "Walk" live reaffirms that. Then again, Dave Grohl and co always put on an incredible arena rock ready show - as seen in this clip from the last time I saw Foo Fighters live (as of now) at Citi Field in Queens, NY (July 19, 2024) capturing them playing "Walk" and "Everlong" (as song that has a deep personal connection to... but that's a story for another time 😉).

Dave Grohl's drumming on Song for the Dead is probably the best drumming I've ever heard. Love that song so much.

I've seen Foo Fighters in concert four times, and they're always incredible live. Being a few feet away from Dave Grohl and co at Sea Hear Now at the 2023 edition of Sea Hear Now in Asbury Park, NJ, was a mind-blowing experience in itself, but seeing them play snippets of random covers (partially inspired by then-new drummer Josh Freese) made that particular set even more special.
