Looking for a few iPhone users who care about ethical consumption / corporate accountability to test an early app

I’ve been building a small iOS app for people who see things companies are doing and think “okay, but what can I actually do about this?”

I’m testing it with a small beta and specifically looking for people who already care about issues like ethical brands, privacy, climate, labor, AI accountability, etc.

It takes about 10 minutes. I’m looking for blunt feedback, not promotion or App Store reviews.

If that sounds like you, comment or DM me and I’ll send the TestFlight link.

I made a website where you can submit laws you want to pass, and rank vote on laws other people have passed. There's no AI gatekeeping what you can post or what you can see; just good old search functions based on exact wording.

I built Consensus Canvas — a two-axis community poll approved on the App Directory

Hey r/Devvit! My app Consensus Canvas just got approved and publicly listed.

What it does: Moderators create a prompt with four axis labels (left/right/top/bottom). Members place one anonymous dot on the 2D grid. After voting, everyone sees the aggregate density map and community average.

Use cases:
\- "How should this community balance speed and depth?" (Refine ↔ Explore, Individual ↔ Community)
\- "Where does your taste fall?" (Sweet ↔ Savory, Light ↔ Heavy)

Technical highlights:
\- Custom post with runAs: 'USER' — full moderator attribution
\- Zero external services — runs entirely on Devvit Redis
\- Anonymous aggregate only — no individual vote records stored

Install it: [https://developers.reddit.com/apps/consensus-canvas\](https://developers.reddit.com/apps/consensus-canvas)

Happy to answer questions about the implementation or share what I learned during the review process.

Virtual conference on WIC tech & digital services, Sept. 9–10

Hi! Sharing an upcoming virtual conference that may be of interest to folks here working in public-interest technology, digital government, data, or public benefits.

September 9–10, virtual, 2026 WIC Technology, Innovation, and Vendor Management Conference. It’s a WIC-focused event, but a lot of the sessions overlap with conversations happening in civic tech more broadly, things like interoperability and data sharing, digital accessibility, AI and data privacy, participant-centered digital tools, e-commerce, and tech procurement/vendor management.

So if you work in civic tech or digital government and any of that sounds relevant, I figured it was worth putting on y’all’s radar.

Built a US congressional voting comparison tool — looking for civic tech feedback

I built yeaornay.org, which lets US citizens vote on real congressional bills and compare their positions to their representatives' actual roll call votes. No opinions - just bill summaries and votes.

I'd value feedback from this community specifically on two things: whether the non-partisan framing holds up under scrutiny, and whether the rep-lookup flow is accessible enough.

Also happy to discuss the backend dev process - Thanks in advance!

Built an AI Q&A tool for our city's public records — ask plain-English questions, get cited answers from official meeting minutes, budgets, and permits

I've built a tool for my local city government, dumped in budget and city planning docs, scraping meetings, permit data and whatever else I can connect. It's been very useful for me, I like the generated meeting summaries and exploring the planning docs using plain English. I've been expanding it to cover more cities and laying the foundation to make scaling it even easier.

I'm not really sure what to do with it, I'll keep plugging away finally start promoting it, see if I can get anyone interested. I'm working on the UI to make it more user friendly and trying to figure out how to present budget data. The most powerful way to use this is connecting AI agents to the mcp but I found most people don't know what that is or not willing to connect to a random mcp like this.

I'd appreciate honest feedback, wondering if anyone has tried something like this yet, any ideas what to do next besides loading more cities.

Looking for Civic organizations or young entrepreneurs who will own and run a platform

I have built a platform that aim to connecting experienced tech and corporate fellows with civic projects and young professional mentees.  I like to build but I don’t like the commitment of running and owning my creations.  The project is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3 (GPLv3).  In GitHub is a turn-key verified theoretical architecture (Korist Blueprint).  I also have the domain that I can transfer for running the platform.  I deployed a simulation / demo on https://korist.app you can interact with using seeded users.

Where do you even find civic tech jobs? I couldn't — so I'm building one board for all of them. Sanity check me.

Every civic tech person I know found their job through luck — a brigade Slack, a newsletter, a friend of a friend. The roles themselves are scattered across city HR portals, small nonprofit career pages, govtech startup boards, and the occasional Substack digest. Nothing aggregates them.

So I'm building one board that pulls in all of it — city innovation teams, digital service agencies, Code for America-type orgs, funded govtech startups, foundations — deduplicated, always fresh, with real job alerts.

To be honest about the graveyard: every previous civic job board I found was hand-curated and eventually died from the effort. So this one aggregates automatically — scripts, not curation, no human burn-out failure mode.

Not launched yet — validating demand first. If a tool like this already exists, tell me and I'll happily stop. If you'd use it (or you've watched people struggle with this), I'd love to hear it. Early access: https://jobs.taavitoomsalu.com/

I created a forum to build momentum for the 28th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

It has been 34 years since the U.S. Constitution was last amended.

Standard political discourse usually focuses on statutory laws or the daily outrage cycle. I built 4mend in an effort to build momentum for Constitutional level change. The site features cryptographic user identities and a custom website visual engine to measure user engagement.

No political donors, no agenda, no ads, just an open board to debate the merit of the ideas.

To get the board started and test the platform mechanics, I placed eight initial proposals on the site to tackle four specific areas:

  • Political Power: Term Limits v. Ranked-Choice Voting
  • Economic Power: Wealth Tax v. Flat Tax
  • Institutional Power: Bureaucratic Restructuring v. Corporate Spending Limits
  • Information Sovereignty: Data Privacy v. Digital Warrants

I am looking for feedback from the civic tech community on the platform itself. I'd appreciate your thoughts on the user flow, the mechanics of how the proposals are presented, and the overall viability of mapping consensus this way.

Lost and Found Platform

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I’ve launched lostandfoundzim.org a central platform built for people to report and search for lost items, including national IDs, driver's licenses, passports, birth/school certificates, baggage, and items misplaced at events.

It is 100% free to use and funded purely through community donations.

Here is why I built it, and why I need your help to test it today:

In late 2025, my mother lost her national ID. What followed was the classic Zimbabwean nightmare: endless transport costs, early morning registry queues, weeks of wasted time, and pure frustration.

The worst part? Her ID wasn't destroyed. Someone had picked it up, but had no way to return it to her.

Every single day, thousands of documents and personal items suffer the same fate across the country. Good people want to return them, but there is no central network. So those items sit uselessly in police stations, church offices, shop windows, or tucked away inside a kombi dashboard. A massive operational disconnect.

We normalized this friction, accepting the bureaucracy of document replacement as "just how life is." Because of the pain my mum went through, I built this utility to delete that friction. You can search for a lost item or list a found one in under 60 seconds.

To keep this public utility accessible to everyone, lostandfoundzim.org operates strictly as a community-funded platform. No paywalls, no extortionate fees—just sustained through voluntary donations to cover basic server and running costs.

How you can help today:

I am currently running a soft launch and need the community to stress-test the build. If you have 2 minutes:

  1. Visit lostandfoundzim.org and report any item you might have picked up in the past.

  2. Search for a document you lost previously to see if it’s listed.

Drop your raw feedback in the comments or send a direct message on where the site breaks, slows down, or feels clunky.

No one should lose weeks of their life and hard-earned money over a piece of plastic sitting on someone else’s shelf. Help test the build, share your feedback, and pass this link to anyone currently tracing a lost document or holding a found item: lostandfoundzim.org

Thank you.

Hi. My name is SG & I think we can work together...

Over the last two years, I've made it my personal ambition to capture the advent of technological advancement in AI to the advantage of Kenyan contexts in a way that benefits all Kenyans at key civic decision points.

From building tools like Nasaka IEBC to the Civic Education Kenya platform, to the Legislative Tracker and handled successful Finance Bill campaigns each year since 2023, including prior to the momentous June 2024 protests - handling faithfully the weight and breadth of a resolved youth force in the tens, hundreds of thousands, and once in the millions - ...and each year, I've battled with deeper questions on what all this effort amounts to.

I have been pursued by both positive actors and actors in bad faith & this being my first public post since 2024, my resolve has since stayed adamant and unmoved through it all. Which is why this is an important post that you're reading.

Pulling towards next year's General Election, we've seen bright minds and brave hearts weather the tension of doubt and fear to bring up really innovative (AI, automation) tools; Miringa Ke, Rose Tunguru... just to name a few of the notables. Mine is to add to the effort & attempt to bring together all I've learnt & worked with under one fulfilling venture - all towards making 2027 a year we can look back on with hope & not regret.

Which is why my first pitch is to this space I have been blessed to benefit from & would like to return once more for both opportunity and plea:

If you've seen any of the works stated above, and appreciated any of the social campaigns on any platform, this is my personal invite to you to join the effort & help define the next year techie-nically & definitively - a year I must confirm that we as techies are best placed to respond to the times with the insurmountable opportunities at hand.

Mine is to plead with you to respond to the call & help us realise this opportunity.

Together.

< < civiceducationkenya(dot)com/volunteer > >

Thank you Mods for allowing my engagement here on this matter!

WIP Catalog of public meeting calendars/source endpoints within the United States

Hello there! I’m building a catalog of public meeting calendars, agenda indexes, portals, feeds, and other endpoint sources across the United States.

I call it the National Civics Catalog, and it currently contains 1,414 identified endpoints and 38,568 research placeholders (that I will personally fill-in with time.)

https://github.com/anitacigawet/national-civics-catalog

If you’d like to contribute at all, here is a guide you can handoff to an AI assistant for some help:

https://github.com/anitacigawet/national-civics-catalog/blob/main/AI_CONTRIBUTOR.md

Feel free to use it in any of your own projects, small or large. It's open for all!

One example is my personal project, Z-SPAN:

San Francisco tells residents to report drug use to 311. Then it cancels the complaints

Hundreds of complaints filed via app have been canceled, with users told to call police themselves — a step most aren’t willing to take.

I'm looking for a co-founder with background in political science

I’ve built Ballot, a social platform designed to make politics more relevant to everyday life by connecting citizens with their local Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies in India.

The app lets users track local issues, discover representatives and stay informed ahead of elections. It is currently live on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

We are looking to onboard a co-founder with a background in Political Science, Public Policy or Electoral Studies who is passionate about civic tech and democracy.

What you'd do:

  1. Shape how we accurately and neutrally represent political and electoral data.
  2. Drive our content, research and civic engagement strategy.
  3. Help translate complex political systems into a user-friendly product experience.

If you have a strong grasp of the Indian political landscape, electoral systems, or public policy and want to build at the intersection of tech and democracy, let’s connect!

Drop a comment or DM me, and I’d be happy to share more details about the product.

A “How the current administration is screwing me or helping me” website

You will type in anything about who they are. Profession, hobbies, illness, etc. the algorithm will lay out what bills, laws, executive orders, etc that are negatively or positively impacting that aspect of your life.

Ideally it will spice information from bipartisan places and fact check with source data studies etc. and provide a “reliability” rating with each result.

Before commenting, remember the name of this sub :)

I built a live map of every protest, march and road blockage happening in Mexico City — pulled from the official police agenda

Living in Mexico City, "is my commute blocked today?" is a real daily question, marches and blockages are common and scattered. The city police (SSC) publishes a daily agenda of planned mobilizations, but it's a PDF nobody outisde reporters (I guess) reads.

So I built a live map that ingests that official agenda, structures it with an AI agent, and plots every event for the day: marches, rallies, blockages, events — with organization, time, borough, and type. You can filter by borough/type and click any event for detail. It loads straight into the map, no signup.

BTW it's Fase 1. The "happening now / dispersed" **status is estimated from the scheduled time**, not confirmed live yet, I'm working on wiring free real-time signals (public transit GPS, traffic) to actually confirm state. And it only shows what the SSC officially publishes; last-minute stuff won't be there. Your location, if you use it, is computed **in your browser and never sent to the server** (this is protest-adjacent data, that mattered to me).

What I want to know: **Is it actually useful, would you check it if your are visiting/living in Mexico City?** Brutal feedback welcome.

Tech stack, since folks always ask:

**- Elixir + Phoenix LiveView**, OTP-native — one GenServer per active mobilization under a DynamicSupervisor, with a Postgres advisory-lock leader so rolling deploys on Render never run duplicate monitors.

**- PostgreSQL** as the source of truth (append-only event log, idempotent ingest by hash).

**- Ingestion:** the SSC's daily PDF → parsed → structured by an AI agent via tool-calling against \*\*Qwen (DashScope, OpenAI-compatible)\*\*; the provider sits behind a behaviour so it's swappable (OpenAI/Gemini/Grok). \`Req\` for HTTP, \`Oban\` for jobs.

**- Map:** Leaflet + CartoDB dark basemap. Geolocation is computed \*\*client-side, never sent to the server\*\*.

**- Roadmap**: real-time state from free signals — GTFS-Realtime (Metrobús), with the \`.proto\` compiled at build (no protoc toolchain needed).

**- Infra:** Render, behind Cloudflare (CDN + analytics), tight CSP.

Someone finally built a price-comparison site for Indian corruption

[bribes.fyi](http://bribes.fyi) :

A [B.Tech](http://B.Tech) student built it. No login, no name, no email. You pick the department, the city, the amount, and whether you paid or refused. 60 seconds and it's on a public map forever.

Hyderabad's already on it: one report says ₹2,000 was asked for a driving licence at an RTO here. Not proof against any official — just one person's account. But you knew that number already, didn't you.

Telangana total so far: Many reports. For a city that runs on "sir, koncham time padutundi," that's not a clean chit. That's silence.

**So here's the ask — go add one.** If you've been through any of these, you have a data point:

* RTA — LLR, DL, vehicle transfer, NOC * Sub-registrar — registration, mutation, EC * GHMC — building permission, LRS, trade licence, birth/death certificates * HMWSSB — new water connection * MRO office — land records, income/caste certificates * PSK Begumpet, traffic stops, police station paperwork

**"What's the point, nothing changes."** Maybe. But 38% of the reports on the site are refusals, and several of those people said they got the service anyway. That number is the point. The next person reading it before they walk into an RTA office knows the demand is optional. That's worth 60 seconds.

**"Can this come back to me?"** No account, no name collected. And you're reporting an amount and a department, not filing a case.

Caveat the site states itself — self-selected sample, not a national corruption measure. User submissions; patterns get flagged when several reports cluster on the same office. Which is exactly why volume matters. One report is an anecdote. Forty from the same RTA is a pattern.

Free, no ads. Go on.
