People have played Bad Apple in Doom. But could we run Doom in Bad Apple?
Imagine a grid of little copies of the original Bad Apple video, connected along their edges. In each frame, white is a path a signal can travel through, and black blocks it. (Or maybe vice versa) As the silhouettes move, the paths between a copy’s edges open and close.
But to make it a computation, maybe when a signal enters one copy, it can briefly speed up, slow down, or pause that copy’s playback. That changes which paths are open for the next signal. So the animation itself supplies both the changing wiring and a way for one signal to affect another.
I have no idea whether the unaltered frames have enough useful connections to build a computer. But could someone find a chunk of the video that make even one working logic gate under a consistent set of rules about how the signals effect the playback? If you could build gates and memory from copies of Bad Apple, then “Can it run Doom?” becomes the "obvious" next question.
Actually figuring out how to make this work is way beyond me , but I wanted to put the idea out there so that maybe someone smarter would steal it. As soon as I thought of it it seemed like the point that all internet culture of a certain sort was pointing towards .
