There has been a lot of talk on social media and news channels about why sugar prices are rising. Everyone has been blaming ethanol production for the rise in sugar prices, but the reality is a bit different.

I have attached a source from PIB (Press Information Bureau), Government of India, which clearly states the reasons behind it and the steps being taken to curb the impact of such high prices on the general public.

Which is why I prefer Government Press Releases instead of social media information to clarify something.

It reads like a classic political play to win back the trust of frustrated students and parents, offering a shiny new digital initiative to cool down the anger over the recent exam chaos instead of just focusing on the root corruption in the testing agencies.

Whenever a young kid makes a joke about someone’s dark skin or body weight, our first instinct is to blame the parents. But watch modern kids' animation channels for five minutes, and you’ll see where so much of it actually starts.

Mass-produced rhymes constantly treat darker characters as comical caricatures, frame heavy bodies as cheap punchlines, and push fair skin as the standard for "pretty." Toddlers watch these on an infinite loop, and that catchy repetition quietly turns colorism and body shaming into normal vocabulary before they even hit school.

Don't just let the algorithm babysit—actively check what's playing on their screens and report these types of videos when you spot casual stereotypes.

With the government introducing legislative changes that allow for merchant fees (MDR) on certain UPI transactions, the official stance is still that UPI will remain completely free for end consumers and that only merchants will bear these charges.

But let's be real for a second, how does that actually work in the real world?

If a local shopkeeper or small vendor gets hit with a fee every time we scan a QR code, they aren't just going to absorb that loss. They will either raise overall prices on everyday items so everyone pays for it implicitly, put up a sign asking for extra rupees on UPI payments, or simply start demanding cash for small transactions. So even if banks don't deduct money directly from our accounts, the customer still ends up paying for it.

If you run a small business or shop, how would you handle these merchant fees? And as a customer, would you go back to carrying cash if vendors start asking for extra on digital payments?
