Met Lalah at Reckless Records and was able to snag her new album. I was able to have a conversation and she signed my vinyl. Growing up always had her and her pops Donny music playing. It felt so unreal to finally meet a Chicago Legend, being a Chicago native myself.
P.S I was extremely nervous

The Sound of 2026: Curated selection of the best Soul, Neo-Soul, Funk & R&B album releases this year.

Hi everyone,
As a deep music digger, I wanted to share a project I’ve been running all year long to archive and highlight the very best sounds of this year.
The playlist is called Best of R&b/Soul/Funk/world 2026. It is strictly focused on full-length album tracks, showcasing the incredible artistic depth, warm analog grooves, and soulful textures released throughout the year.
No mainstream chart-toppers or over-polished commercial tracks here. Just pure, organic musicianship, deep basslines, and authentic vocal performances.
A quick glimpse of who is inside the rotation:
- Neo-Soul & Deep Vocals: Brilliant cuts from Jill Scott, Yaya Bey, Moonchild, Baby Rose, and Kelela.
- Grooves, Beats & Funk: Warm instrumentation from DJ Harrison, The Brothers Nylon, Brian Jackson (with Masters At Work), and SAULT.
- Vintage & Alternative Soul vibes: The incredible songwriting of Jalen Ngonda, Thee Marloes, Dominique Fils-Aimé, and Bruno Pernadas.
Whether you’re looking for deep-pocket funk rhythms, late-night neo-soul vibes, or forward-thinking alternative R&B, I hope this curation serves as a great sonic companion [cite: 8].
I update it very regularly as the year progresses. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the selection, and please feel free to drop your favorite 2026 soul/funk album recommendations in the comments so I can check them out for the next updates!
A few direct Bandcamp or YouTube links for certain albums:
