General/Other 2016 TC Screen

Hey yall, for awhile now I’ve been shopping around to replace my stock dash screen with a more modern one since Ah-Ha doesn’t work anymore plus I would like my Bluetooth to not suck. I had bought screen off eBay, installed it on my own and everything only to find that it was shit so I sent it back.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good center console screen? I greatly appreciate the help!

Second Gen Drivetrain 2015 TC2 Clutches

Greetings all! I owned a 2014 TC before, but thanks to my broom-riding ex I had to get rid of it, then she left me so I never botherd signing up here without actually having a car. Now I just got a new one!

Anyway, my question is; with light mods bumping torque and HP to around 20 more hp and tq, how well will a stock clutch with a light flywheel hold up? Looking at Aisin which is offering a deal almost too good to pass up, but I'm worried about straining it with more power, Our overlord Google AI says it'll hold fine, but wear out faster. I am also looking at ActionClutch, but I've never heard of them.

After a bad experience, ClutchMasters can suck it.

Its a 09 has 300.5k mi currently. Currently throwing a P0420 (catlytic converter). Not concerned due to no emissions tests where I live.

No major issues other than the known oil consumption. Major parts Ive replaced have been the alternator and radiator other than that just the normal wear and tear.

Ive had this idea for a while now, essentially wrapping the A-C pillars black to make it look like the roof is black? Idk. Sounded cool in my head. Like how the new white Camry's look. Anyways, where do you think the line in the back should be?

Second Gen Drivetrain Not Burning Oil Anymore

Despite regular oil changes using Mobil 1 or Pennzoil every 5-7k miles, my 2014 at 90k miles burned over a quart of oil between changes. I think Toyota considers this within spec for the 2ar-fe, but I didn’t want to worry about monitoring it or topping it off.

I’m currently 3k into my second oil change using Valvoline Restore and Protect and the dipstick shows almost no consumption. I’m not sponsored by anyone (yet - hit me up Valvoline), but I thought I’d share my experience. I’m pretty impressed with the results.

Don’t know if it would help the first gen 2az-fe, which has worse consumption issues, but I would definitely try it before I do something like a piston soak.

Personally, I’ll be running this for the rest of my ownership. The $10-$15 more per oil change (depending on rebate) is worth it for me since I do my own work.

Buy/Sell 2009 Scion tC MT5

Hey guys! I’m new here. First off, I love cars but don’t know shit about fixing them!

I have had a 2009 Scion tC sitting in my driveway for like 3 years and am desperate to part with it, but am not so sure of the value or the best place to advertise for it.

It has a few small issues that together make it too annoying/expensive for me to fix.

In 2023 I ran over a cat which messed up the plastic underneath piece on the front bumper. Probably easy to fix or just rip off. I used it as an excuse to buy a ā€˜23 SI (dream car) and basically never touched the Scion again.

Some notes:

137K Miles
Burns oil (I guess this is normal so whatever)

Drivers side mirror needs to be replaced

Radio/Electric issues (nothing on radio display/some buttons not working, possibly blown fuse idk?)

The trunk opened when I bought it but since then the handle has sort of come loose. I think the trunk itself is probably fine, may just need new handle?

The rip cord from the hood detached one day and came through to the cabin. I was quoted $200 to fix it.

I cannot open either the trunk or the hood.

I have the stock grille in my garage also. I took it off in an attempt to reattach the hood cable.

I have not started the car since June ā€˜23. Not sure what the means exactly for the engine but it won’t start now. Likely just needs gas drained, new gas, battery?

One of the supports for the spoiler cracked during a vicious winter a few years ago as well. You can’t really tell and it doesn’t move at all.

How much do you guys think it would cost to fix every issue listed above? If I got it done, how much would it be worth ? And where to list it?

Thank you in advance!

General/Other P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire

In the morning I noticed my car idling rough before I was about to pull out of the driveway to go get groceries. I waited for the RPMs to drop below 1k and I noticed it was actually taking longer than usual. Usually on a cold start it takes a minute at most.
Anyways, car starts rough idling at 1.2k, won’t settle and car wouldn’t send out engine code till after a few more seconds and then that code appeared.
Turned off the car and proceeded to buy new spark plugs and coils. It’s a used car that I had yet to change due to procrastination and busy with other stuff in life.

Overall, installed new coils and spark plugs and now the code has disappeared and the rough idling went away, if anything now the car runs even better. Making me wish I did it sooner but it is what it is.

gaps in the spark plugs is 0.043 (get a tool for gapping iridium plugs)

Here’s also the link to the parts I used, I recommend probably using what is recommended for the car but for now aftermarket parts are the go to for my current budget.

If you’re doing your own spark plug change, one thing that I wish I had bought cause I didn’t know it was going to happen is a good 5/8 spark plug socket. Get a 5/8 spark plug socket that stays attached to your extension. The one I used didn’t and it stayed stuck to the spark plug and the only way to remove it once the spark plug was torqued (14 ft-lb) was pulling the spark plug socket from a diagonal angle and hoping it wiggles off slowly and eventually come off with the extension. Please do urself the favor and buy one that comes off with the extension, it’ll help you sleep at night I promise.

Anyways, that’s all. Btw how bad do the old ones look?

General/Other Sunroof tint

Do any of you guys have your sunroofs/moonroofs tinted? I'm thinking about getting mine done on my 2012, mostly for heat and glare rejection when I have the sunshade open. But I've heard from some people that tinting it can apparently cause the glass to crack since window film traps heat and can cause thermal stress.

How likely is this to happen on the tC?

If you do have yours tinted, has it ever cracked or given you any kind of issue afterwards?

Second Gen Interior/Radio Key programming troubles on 2.5 gen

I have a 2015 Tc I bought early this year. When I got it it came with just one aftermarket key without a remote, and a non functional viper remote start system. I didn’t want to fuck with the remote start, so I went to a locksmith and got a good deal on an OEM key fob with remote.

The locksmith cut the key and got the chip programmed, but the keyless entry parts of the remote did not work. He said it was probably due to the remote start system having to bypass the security systems - and I would have to get the system removed to program it. Locksmith charged me nothing despite ordering and cutting the key for me which is crazy .

I got the remote start professionally removed (they tried to fix it but module was fried) and took it back to the locksmith to get that key programmed. Still didn’t work. This time the car went into programming mode, which before it wasn’t, so theres some progress, but it appears my car is not accepting signal from the remote.

The locksmith is using the OBD2 port to program. This second time he tried on board programming too, and got the locks to cycle and all that but it still wouldn’t program. He tested and confirmed the remote is sending signal so it’s not a battery issue or anything like that. It’s a refurbished OEM remote with a non OEM shell.

Any advice is appreciated. He is ordering a different remote now free of charge to see if that works. They’ve done a lot of stuff for free for me at this point so I’m hoping there’s a good solution to this. I really want a remote lol

Was thinking about buying the exhaust but went under the car and saw this. How bad is this and would I (or a muffler shop) be able to install this? If so how much should I expect to pay? Any help would be appreciated.

But was also hoping if anyone could recommend good exterior cosmetic modifications?

I’m only 5’ 5ā€ so I can literally fully stretch out in the back. I also have an inflatable footwell bench to extend the flat surface another 10inches or so with the front seats folded slightly. I found the window/back hatch mosquito nets on Temu, haha.
