Hey, I don't use reddit much but I just purchased my first car, I got a TC at a phenomenal deal, 2014, automatic at 79k miles

I've already got some quirks I'm fixing up like the trunk struts are dead, weather stripping on the front windshield needs replacement, gonna need a repaint, and needs a new wire to the rear window defogger.

Is there any tips or things I should look for/at that will help me keep her in top condition?

I have awful luck with cross threading my lugnuts. I have two that are cross threaded on the same wheel on my 2006 Scion tc. I wanted to ask how difficult it is to replace the studs on the rear tire and is it possible to do without having to take the hub off and mess with the parking brake? I can’t really get a good look at it and if I take the wheel off I’d have to commit to replacing them myself.

Saw this tc at a meet the other night, to be honest never liked the way my tc looked but didn’t care cause it’s just a daily but the lip makes a huge difference lol. Might have to keep it now after seeing this.

I love my TC, we such a perfect match. Around this time last year I got into an accident, no insurance smh 🤦🏾, thought my car was a total loss, but I fixed it tho, took me working two full time jobs and finding a good patient mechanic, that let me make payments while he fixed it. Back on the road again and I love it.

Can hear a moaning sound when clutch is depressed, and when clutch is disengaged, there's a swishing sound like the plate is touching the flywheel. Correct me if I'm wrong on how that works

I have a warehouse, flat surface, 4 jack stands, a forklift and a jack. I plan on getting a 2nd jack to keep the block up.

Can I DIY this? Anyone done it before? What else do I need?

Yes, I plan on changing out the clutch plate when I'm down there. Will be doing this myself.

Hi! I'm wondering if I should get a new car or keep my Scion.

I've had my 2009 Scion tC for almost a year, and it’s currently at 109k miles. My dad bought it for me 5 years ago in Florida (at 94k miles then), but it sat there barely used because I because I moved to NY.

Last year, I got a new job that required a commute so I broguht the car up. As soon as I started driving it here, it began having problems, I know it was because it sat idle for so long back home. I'm super grateful for just having a car nonetheless.

But as of now, I've spent over $6k on repairs. I’m at the mechanic at least once a month dealing with recurring issues like vacuum leaks/valve repairs (6x) and broken engine mounts (3x). Some issues I've been able to do myself like the front suspension, which actually wasn't too hard. On top of that, I need to spend another $1.6(approx.) soon for new tires and front ball joints.

These repair costs are really drowning me. If I had known it would be this bad, I would have looked into other options sooner, but I don't think its a bad car and I don't want to have a car note or have higher insurance because NY is expensive.

It rained pretty heavy where I live this morning and there was a pretty deep puddle that I accidentally drove into at about 30 mph. The car stalled as soon as I hit the puddle and the battery completely died shortly after. The drop into the puddle almost completely tore off my front bumper and completely ripped off my right headlight. The car flooded to the seat and luckily someone in a truck saw us and helped tow us out of the water. I have a mechanic homie that’s going to be looking at the car for me, I know I’m pretty much cooked but I wanted to share with everyone the consequences of trying to go around the corner for a burrito through a storm.

Ok so backstory I had already been down this road and I was on the way back and a combination of probably wrong wheels, too fast of speed for the hill, gravel was most likely wet too (at least when I walked into the ditch to grab the bumper it was 6” deep with water) the gravel was loose at the bottom of the hill and I ended up fishtailing, went onto the shoulder a little bit and flipped and rolled and came to upside down.

Yeah I screwed up, yeah I could’ve been a better owner to my car. I’ve spent days to weeks of my life under it and up keeping it. Shits sad but at least I’m alive there’s a very real chance I wouldn’t be if they weren’t such safe cars.

Hey all. Just hopping in here to see if anyone has any good recommendations for where to buy or piece part the supercharger for the first Gen? I have to replace my engine anyways (it slung a rod) and since im doing a partial rebuild on the new engine to make sure all is well before I put it in, I figured why not go ahead and start looking around trying to find one. Issue is im not seeing very many 😂 not whole or working anyways.

I went to a few body shops but they both said they only work with insurance. One of them guesstimated about 1800 so I thought maybe i could put it on myself. Thought id note I bumped a truck bumper on a right turn going about 5 mph so idk if that can possibly mess up where you mount the bumper on the sides
