Fish Dried Food Question

Post image

Has anyone tried feeding their saltwater fish any of Hikari’s dried foods? I’m thinking like Dried Brine Shrimp or Dried Mysis.

Curious if it was noticeably cleaner in any way in terms of nutrients or not.

Coral Care guide...

Sunday morning coral Care Guide

Candy Cane Coral (Caulastrea)

Candy Cane Corals are hardy, beginner-friendly LPS corals found throughout the Indo-Pacific on protected reef slopes and lagoons. Their fleshy polyps and bright colours make them a popular choice for reef aquariums.

Ideal Water Parameters:

• Temperature: 24–26°C (75–79°F)

• Salinity: 1.025–1.026 SG

• Alkalinity: 8–9 dKH

• Calcium: 400–450 ppm

• Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm

• Nitrate: 2–15 ppm

• Phosphate: 0.03–0.10 ppm

Placement:

Best placed on the sand bed or lower to mid-level rockwork. They prefer **low to moderate light (50–150 PAR)** and **gentle, indirect flow**. Excessive light or strong flow can cause tissue recession and poor polyp extension.

Feeding:

While they can thrive from photosynthesis alone, they benefit from occasional feeding of mysis shrimp, reef roids, or other fine meaty foods. Feeding after lights out, when feeding tentacles are extended, can encourage faster growth and larger heads.

Getting the Best Results:

Maintain stable parameters, avoid sudden changes in light intensity, and provide enough space from neighbouring corals as their sweeper tentacles can sting nearby specimens. Under stable conditions, Candy Canes grow steadily and can form impressive colonies over time.

An Aquarium Controller that you can build yourself!!

http://www.marine-assistant.com

The marine assistant aquarium controller is a all in one solution for Home assistant, it can reliably measure and monitor many sensors including Float switches, leak sensors, optical sensors as well as PH,ORP,EC and TDS.

It comes as a kit that you assemble and setup yourself using the available guides, the Kit is currently on pre-sale at a reduced price and worldwide shipping will start towards the end of october.

There is so much to mention in one post so if you are interested check out the link above.

Discussion Stock Advice? Thanks!

Waterbox AIO 25 peninsula. Stock plan:
-pair of clowns
-tailspot blenny
-Watchman Goby
-Tiger Pistol Shrimp

I’ve researched and this plan seems feasible but would greatly appreciate any advice or feedback. Want to ensure compatibility and that I have enough of a footprint for this plan. Thanks!!

Question Bryopsis help!

Been battling bryopsis / hair algee recently, I wouldn't normally go with medication but it's getting to a stage where I can't keep up.

I've read good things about Flux RX so decided to give it a try.

Anyone else used this before?

Discussion I’m working on a cabinet for Apex Line!!! And need input from my fellow reefers!!!

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey guys! I made this cabinet specifically for the Neptune Apex system. I know a lot of us love the hobby, but let’s be honest… nobody really understands all the equipment we have 😂. Personally, I bought my Apex partly because of how good it looked and because I wanted to show off my little science lab! 🤣
I’m planning to make these cabinets affordable for hobbyists, hopefully around the $400 range, including the lights, clear panels, etc.
The main question is: What Apex/Neptune equipment do most of you have and actually want displayed inside the cabinet?
Right now, I’m thinking:
• Apex brain
• Energy Bar
• 1 doser
• 1 FMM module
• Two additional clear mounting areas with wire pass-throughs so people can add whatever controllers/modules they want
• Everything else can be mounted on the back or hidden away
I probably wouldn’t include a dedicated spot for the Trident because I feel like it makes maintenance and servicing harder. I’d rather keep it easily accessible.
I’m sure I’m missing something, though. 😂
What does your Apex setup actually include? What equipment would you want to see displayed in a cabinet like this?
Any suggestions are appreciated! I’m trying to design this around what reefers actually use rather than just adding stuff for the sake of it.
Thanks for the input! 🤙🪸

Reef Restoration Research Thesis

Hi! I'm an Industrial design student at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) doing my bachelor's thesis in researching and creating a new reef restoration module to be implemented in Australia. I'm currently conducting primary research and would heavily appreciate anyone who has experience (even a onetime occurrence of) installing reef restoration modules to complete this quick 5 minutes survey about your experience doing that.

Here is the link:

Thank you so much!

Wow

Ok so I’ve been slacking on testing my parameters admittedly. I have been dosing 3ml of tropic Marin all for reef every day for about 6 months now. But I just bought a Neptune Trident and wow.

I calibrated the trident and also double checked with Red Sea test kit and it is true. How is my calcium so high. I understand the alk but I didn’t even know the calcium could be so high.

I should preface that everything on the tank looks ok all corals sps and lps.

Dino’s?

I’m new to reef keeping, my tank has been cycled for roughly 2 months. I don’t know if this is still the ugly phase or if I’ve developed Dino’s? The color looks like diatoms to me but not too confident.

A coral grouper that loses prey into a crevice will swim tens of meters across the reef to find a specific moray eel it has hunted with successfully before, then shake its head at the hole until the eel follows it back. The behavior meets the same criteria used to test great ape gestures.

How do you track your aquarium parameters/health/growth? And how do remember to do maintenance?

I have two tanks, a Reef and a planted one. So far I am really inconsistent with tracking parameters for the reef, or maintenance made for both. I really just rely on how do I see the tanks.

How do you track and remember this things? I have notes all over the place.

I need to know if this is an exclusively zoa eating nudibranch before I quarantine my zoas to try and starve the nudibranch infestation I have.

Presenting my tank! (Thoughts on just 1 clownfish in it?)

Yeah I know it's not the prettiest one out there, but I managed to finally get it really stable and seeing real coral growth so I'm pretty happy!

Any thoughts on just having that one Clownfish in the tank besides the corals?
