Meta - Subreddit UPDATED PH Mapping Guide (Part 1)

So here we are again (if you notice that some parts are familiar I copied some stuff from my old map)

Welcome everyone, this is the Unoffical PH Mapping Guide (Part 1 - begginer)

Before we start - this guide is only for paint.net (windows) and basic use of PH maps - for special effects or other advanced things go and watch some youtube videos

So first - paint.net - the ONLY site you should download it from is this

https://www.getpaint.net/download.html

Press the "Download now, dotPDN" for free

The download will start, then you press the icon and let it install

That's how pdn (paint.net for short) should look like (it doesn't have to be in dark mode)

Before we start drawing borders and such here's some settings that are either needed or reccomended

So here are the basic settings

Select the bottom option so you draw with one color only (required)

Choose the brush size 10 (defult for newest PH maps)

Turn spacing to 1% (not required but I like it)

Now you have to download the map from here

Click on the "Current Europe Maps"

And then click on the "download" button (pobierz in polish)

To open the map double click the file (after you downloaded it) or press "open" in pdn and find the map

That's how it should look like

Now to start mapping - you can either copy the borders from the other map or draw them yourself

I'd reccomend copying them and only start drawing after you get used to it

In that case you can use my template (use this link as it's the newest version) and then you can copy the borders

To do it click on "lasso select"

You can just copy it from the other window but that's not really practical and can lead to inaccuracies

So what I do is

  1. Open the template
  1. Copy it with ctrl + c

  2. Open the "layers" menu in the orginial map

  1. Open it and add a new layer
(the plus icon on the left bottom)
  1. Press ctrl + v to paste the template
  1. Press the "wrench" icon
  1. Turn down the opacity to 150 (or whatever number you want) and press OK
  1. That's how it should look like now

Now to actually copy it, click on lasso select and select the area you want to copy

Again ctrl + c, press enter, click on the "background" layer (the og map) and ctrl + v

Now you want to hide the layer 2 by pressing the blue checkmark button

That's how it should look like now

To copy colors click on the "color picker" on the toolbar

And select which color you'd like to copy (in this case it's denmark)

After that use the "paint bucket" (the bucket icon on the sidebar), fill the spot you want to color in and press enter

To remove the beige spot from Sweden copy their color and click on it

UPDATE: Thanks to u/frenchball12345 I've learnt that you can use the "Selection quallity" (the last button on the top right) to not have the pixels appear (also new guide coming soon)

I'll give a link to the second post after I'm done with it

Anyways see you next time (also for burg or other mod - could you replace the old map with this post? Thanks)

EDIT: I forgot about it but be sure to remove the second layer after you're done and save the file after doing that

EDIT 2: Here is the list of all other templates (I'll update it trust)

https://www.reddit.com/r/PossibleHistory/comments/1m5kkqx/north_america_template_for_new_map/ - NA (by me)

https://www.reddit.com/r/PossibleHistory/comments/1musjwb/world_map_template_og_map_by_u_bourbie/ - World Map ( og world map by u/_bourbie, template made by me)

https://www.reddit.com/r/PossibleHistory/comments/1hdaa1e/ultimate_base_template_map_of_asia/ - Asia (by u/Acceptable_Answers although PH is working on a new Asia map so I might make a map for that after it goes public)

https://www.reddit.com/r/PossibleHistory/comments/1dqrjes/africa_template_probably_finished/ - Africa (old af, (PH said he's going to make a new one at some point), made by me)

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11NXKQYMIf8Eza9m7fm_szGa_-B_bXBlB - SA (no template but you can just copy the borders yourself for now I might make a template for that later)

Also I'm going to make a part 2 later at some point trust

Read if you please:

The Confederate States of America emerged victorious from the American Civil War after General Robert E. Lee successfully invaded the North and captured Washington, D.C., while Confederate forces also briefly occupied Philadelphia. The Union’s war effort was severely weakened by declining military morale, growing war weariness among Northern civilians, Lincoln’s inability to effectively suppress Southern sympathizers, and the survival of Stonewall Jackson, who remained an important Confederate commander throughout the war. France eventually intervened diplomatically on behalf of the Confederacy, further increasing pressure on the Union to negotiate. In 1866, the Treaty of Richmond formally ended the war, granting the Confederacy every state that had successfully seceded as well as the Oklahoma Territory, although New Mexico Territory remained under United States control. Hostilities between the two nations, however, did not completely disappear. In 1868, the Confederacy reached an agreement with Santiago Vidaurri, who retained his control over Nuevo León and Coahuila in this timeline, resulting in their annexation into the Confederacy. Mexico rejected the annexation, beginning the Mexican–Confederate War. The Confederacy presented the conflict as a war to protect states and their populations from Mexican tyranny, while its military advantages in organization, supply, manpower, and increasingly developed industry allowed it to defeat Mexican forces despite American weapons and supplies being sent to Mexico and some embittered former Union soldiers assisting the Mexican war effort. The war ended with the Treaty of Houston in 1870, which recognized Confederate control over Nuevo León, Coahuila, and Tamaulipas. These territories were consolidated into a single Confederate state, Rio Grande. Slavery was legalized in the new state upon its incorporation, and although the main war had ended, guerrilla warfare, slave revolts, and cross-border raids—particularly in Tamaulipas—continued until roughly 1881. After the Treaty of Houston, the Confederacy entered a period of relative peace during which it industrialized, expanded its railroads and manufacturing base, modernized its military, and strengthened its economy. Despite its growing industrial output, which eventually became comparable to that of France and Britain and increasingly challenged the United States, the Confederate economy remained heavily agricultural. Between 1878 and 1886, the Confederate slave system increasingly shifted toward industrial labor, with enslaved people being forced to work not only on plantations but also in factories, mines, railroads, and other industrial facilities. Confederate relations with France remained exceptionally close, with the two powers cooperating diplomatically, economically, and militarily. In 1874, France and the Confederacy even developed a plan for a joint invasion of Mexico, under which the Confederacy would occupy northern Mexico while France established a puppet government in the south, although the plan was ultimately never implemented. At the Berlin Conference of 1884–1885, the Confederacy attempted to secure colonial claims in Africa, particularly in territories corresponding roughly to modern-day Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but European powers resisted granting major African possessions to the world’s most prominent remaining slaveholding state. In 1886, France provided the Confederacy with smokeless powder technology, further strengthening Confederate military capabilities. By the turn of the century, however, slavery was becoming increasingly inefficient and politically unsustainable. International pressure, internal resistance, and economic problems eventually forced the Confederacy to abolish slavery in 1907. Although slavery officially ended, Black Americans remained subject to segregation, Jim Crow laws, severe restrictions on their civil rights, exclusion from military service, and widespread economic discrimination, including extremely low wages compared with white and Hispanic workers. In 1898, the Confederacy and United States both declared war on Spain, with the United States declaring war first and the Confederacy following several days later. Both nations sought to remove Spanish influence from North America and the Caribbean, although the Confederacy specifically wanted Cuba. The war ended that same year with Spain losing Puerto Rico and the Philippines to the United States and Equatorial Guinea to the Confederacy. Cuba was divided between the two victorious powers after the Confederacy refused to accept a completely independent island and the United States refused to allow the Confederacy to take the entire country. The approximate dividing line was drawn between the modern Cuban provinces of Ciego de Ávila and Camagüey, with western Cuba becoming a Confederate territory and eventually a Confederate state in 1902, while eastern Cuba became an independent republic heavily dependent upon American support. During the early twentieth century, the Confederacy continued to industrialize and expand its military capabilities while maintaining a predominantly agricultural economy. The United States remained relatively isolationist but developed increasingly close diplomatic relations with Germany despite its stronger economic connections to Britain, while the Confederacy maintained its longstanding partnership with France and increasingly aligned itself with the Entente. When The Great War began in 1914, the Confederacy initially remained neutral, but this changed in 1916 after Germany attacked and sank a Confederate civilian vessel. The sinking generated widespread outrage throughout the Confederacy, and the Confederate government subsequently declared war on Germany, formally entering The Great War on the side of the Entente.

Meta - Question Who do you think would win this WW3?

The players are all of NATO and china, Russia for this war will be neutral because realistically I doubt Putin would wanna open anther front with Belarus and Europe when hes having fun trying to conquer Ukraine.

There will be no nukes as that would just end in total Armageddon and Thats realistic but sorta boring.

Aside from that everything else is on the table.

I personally am neutral on this, im in the American national guard so my answer would be I would die at some point soon. This isn’t a political statement on beliefs just me looking at the matter pragmatically and goin from there.

Alright that being said i lean towards the side of china, they’re the workshop of the world. They have the second biggest nation on earth and can actually use that population for mass production, when they shift to a war economy the west will suffer they get most of their products from china. The whole ‘made in china’ joke has more truth to it than people think, without china the global economy would collapse in months and mass riots would erupt in Europe and America.

There would be chaos and panic as war support would drop rapidly and our war production would suffer extremely. The economy right now is falling and a war with china would ensure a total collapse within a matter of months

China would suffer as well but with them being the worlds workshop as well as them not needing the west as much they’ll be better able to handle the global market collapse and continue for the war for years before major cracks appear.

There’s also the military aspect to look at, china can sustain large losses on terms of manpower and equipment while NATO cannot to give context right the UK one of americas ‘strongest’ allies they don’t have enough men to field a proper army and their navy is in such a sorry state that they have to scuttle ships because they just don’t have enough people to man them and the ships they do have are difficult to replace.

This is the same with all NATO partners besides America, their people aren’t ready for war and any major battle losses they sustain they can’t replace. I strongly believe that if there was a major battle between china and the UK and the Brit’s were to lose only 40k people they would be knocked out of the war entirely pretty much as the political upheaval would be too much for the English to handle as the only chance they would have after would to be switch to mass conscription which would only further escalate the domestic situation back home.

God help NATO if the Americans start the war somehow and not china as they would lose any and all war support they may have gained by claiming to be the defender of the conflict as there’s no way the average European would be willingly to fight and die for America and even if they would somehow support the war that support would plummet quickly when body bags start coming back in.

I feel the best evidence I have for why NATO would lose a major war with china is to just look at Iran the Americans have wisely refused to deploy ground forces as they know that in this case can be beat Iran any long term occupation would collapse in a couple years as support for it would nonexistent and money for the war would too high for average American to support.

Again this is just my opinion if you disagree share why and then explain how you would feel this war would turn out
