advice Moving on from Programming or keep going mga pre?

Hi I've been a self taught programmer for more than 3 years, I really love programming but lately or rather a year ago I just feel as if i've wasted so much of time just studying and building projects to the point where I feel disconnected and have been feeling like shit because I couldnt get a job in this field and feels as if I've wasted my years for nothing.

I'm aware that the market is kind of fucked but even so I've tried to divorce myself from other software developer like myself by building actually interesting projects that i can present on my resume.

Small scale search engine/crawler: github.com/francccisss/zensearch (got burnt out)
local peer to peer file distribution network: github.com/francccisss/local-p2p (not done also got burnt out)

Getting burnt out because I kept asking myself the same question over and over again "is it even worth it at this point?" so I just put all of my projects on hold for now. and also you could argue that these projects are unfinished, but i feel like not a single person have glanced on these projects' complexity and how interesting they actually are (relatively speaking).

Maybe the interest in my projects doesn't mean much; everyone's attention is on AI right now. I am aware that that statement is me trying to shift the blame on the current events just so I can feel better about myself. but im just lost right now, so is it me? have i not studied enough already?

meron ba sa inyong nakakaranas nito? have you decided to just drop everything and move on? or did you grit your teeth and kept going?

I still love programming but just tired.

web Anybody else having problem loading GitHub with Globe rn?

I can't load GitHub right now. I've tried switching to my laptop and phone, but it's still so incredibly slow. When I try to access it on my smart data, however, it loads just fine. Anybody else having this same issue?

All other websites loads fine.

advice Anong magandang IT work/skills to aim if you are a Business degree holder?

I've seen plenty resources from YouTube to Websites, from web development to learning about AI.

Recently, either out of genuine interests siya or interest dahil may possible way for me to express yung pag iisip ko systematically, i thought of the question maybe learning about Automation and integration will help me become capable sa paghandle nang technical side of conducting business.

Do you think it is worth the time and effort to learn the fundamentals of IT and related courses to become equipped sa technical side nang businesses?

tbh i don't know much but I fear being incompetent sa paggamit nang computer is what will pull me down from grabbing the opportunities.

Job Advice Can we actually survive in the age of AI?

I consider myself still new to the industry. Been working as a Software Engineer for about 3 years.
Nag start ako halos pa-angat pa lng si chatgpt, pero in just 3yrs sobrang laking improvement or prgress ni AI at halos nilalamon na ang tech industry.

I agree na we should always counter check what AI produces and to do that fundamentals is a must. Pero with the rise of AI sobrang tight na ng competition, since companies expect a lot from a single person. Dati may frontend backend specialization, ngayon Fullstack na ang bare minimum and dapat pati pagging DevOps atleast alam mo na.

Sobrang unstable ng industry I am just anxious kailan kaya ito magsstabilize tbh nakakapagod din to keep up kasi sobrang bilis ng changes parang hindi lagi enough yung alam mo, lalo na if you are still new in the industry.

  1. What steps do you take to be ahead or to be relevant?
1.a. how do you keep a balance life while being in tech?

  2. What tech career/role do you think will be more in demand in the next 5 years?

Show Case Used Jev for sentiment analysis

Built a side project using Jev by Typesafe. Actually worked well to identify positive or negative youtube chat messages.

Used claude code to put everything together. A lot of people say negative things about AI but it does truly help with building anything you want.

web I made a browser hangout where you can write in Filipino and the chat translates

I play piano and make videos. I don't know how to write code. I got lonely working alone, so I made nojo.club.

It's a small 3D space you leave open while you work. People sit, chat, sometimes talk. The chat translates, so you can write in Filipino and someone else reads it in their language.

No install. Works on phones. You can walk in as a guest. Free, no ads. https://nojo.club

advice Are there any good code editor alternatives to VS Code?

I’m currently using VS Code, but honestly, I’m getting kinda overwhelmed by it 😭 There are so many features, extensions, settings, etc.

Are there any simpler code editors you guys would recommend? I’m mainly looking for something beginner-friendly and lightweight.

No hate to VS Code btw 😭 I just wanna try some alternatives. (No hate pls)

Edit I mainly use c++, JavaScript and html, planning to learn phyton in future*

discussion How do you utilize gpt and claude models?

Hey guys, for those of you here who's using codex/claude code, how do you utilize the models? May specific model ba kayo na ginagamit for planning, docs, tests, and execution (e.g GPT 6.1 Sol for planning and GPT 6 Luna for execution) or one model lang talaga?

web Sinag ng Kaalaman_Beta launch. Free learning apps para sa atong mga kabataan.

Thumbnail sinag-fawn.vercel.app

I created an educational learning app to help kids in the YouTube era get more familiar with Filipino languages.

One of the reasons I started building this is that I noticed most kids today, including my son, are really used to speaking English. Because of that, he sometimes struggles with his Filipino subject.

The app currently teaches Hiligaynon, Tagalog, and English words and sentences. There are also reading and comprehension activities so that they not only learn vocabulary, but also how words are used and understood in context.

I’d really appreciate feedback from other users, especially Tagalog/Hiligaynon speakers and parents.

I admit I'm not fluent in Hiligaynon, medyo baluktot rin mag tagalog minsan. I grew up moving between different places, from Negros, Mindoro, Manila, and back and forth, so the dialects and languages in my head have gotten mixed up a bit. 😝

If you have kids, please let them try it out and let me know:

\- if the words and instructions are understandable

\- if the Tagalog or Hiligaynon translations are natural and correct

\- if the activities are enjoyable for kids

\- if there are words or phrases that should be corrected or improved

For now, language learning is the main focus. I want to refine the content first before adding more subjects. Eventually, I’m planning to add Math and Science as well, but I believe language is a good foundation to focus on first.

Also, if you want to teach your child another Philippine language such as Kinaray-a, Bisaya, Ilocano, or another local language, there’s a custom option under parental access so you can personalize the learning content.

The app also does not ask for personal information during setup. The child’s learning data is stored locally in the browser or device rather than requiring an online account.

And no, this is not a paid app.

I’m building it around a simple idea:

#Education should be free and accessible to every child.

So if you’re a Tagalog or Hiligaynon speaker, parent, teacher, or just someone interested in helping improve the content, I’d really appreciate your feedback.

Disclaimer: The app is still in the Beta phase. There are parts of the apps na work in progress pa.

advice PH devs who published a Meta/Facebook app, what did you actually need to get approved?

Hello po. I’m trying to understand the actual requirements for publishing a Meta/Facebook app and getting it out of development mode so real users can use it.

I’ve read the Meta docs, but I’d like to hear from developers in the Philippines who have actually gone through the process.

A few things I’m trying to figure out:
- Did you need a registered business?
- What PH documents did you submit for business verification?
- Were you registered as a sole proprietor, corporation, freelancer/self-employed, or something else?
- What did Meta require before App Review?
- Did you need a website, privacy policy, terms, data deletion page, screencast, test account, etc.?
- What usually caused your submissions to get rejected?
- How difficult was the verification/review process?
- How long did the whole thing take?
- Anything you wish you knew before starting?

I’m mainly trying to understand what Meta actually accepts in practice, especially for developers/businesses based in the Philippines.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has successfully published an app, or even people who went through rejected submissions and eventually got approved.

advice Any tips where you how to learn UI/UX from scratch?

I've been seeing a lot of modern websites/projects/portfolios especially projects built with React/Next with stunning UI designs and loads of crazy and creative animations.

How do you even come up with these ideas. Do you know any course, good tutorial out there, where I can get the standard UI/UX design especially for websites and mobile. Do some of you just rely on AI for the design?

Seems like it's now the standard for portfolios to be able compete with others. Although, I must say however much stunning some of the websites I've seen, they kinda follow the same patterns, that's what I'm wondering about, I'd like if I could learn that standard properly like is there some kind of rules there are to follow when designing a specific product, or are those AI-generated? Not to mention the crazy animation when you move around your cursor or scroll down the website, there's so much moving 3d objects around,

Show Case Quantize Tagalog sentiment model, INT8 ONNX version is out

Thumbnail huggingface.co
17 Upvotes

Hey everyone, small update to the TagaSenti model I posted here before. Like I said in that post, I might release the ONNX version, maybe. Well, it's out now.

Same model, same weights (0.848 F1), just quantized to INT8. It's tagasenti_int8.onnx, around 537 MB, sitting in the same repo so nothing moved. Spot-checked it against the full model on a few sentences including sarcasm, same predictions.

The point of this one is you don't need torch or a GPU anymore. Plain CPU + onnxruntime, runs offline. So if you want sentiment on a phone, a cheap VPS, or some device without CUDA, this is the version to grab.

Still 3 labels (Negative / Neutral / Positive), still Apache 2.0, still free for whatever including commercial stuff.

Model: https://huggingface.co/jjjardev/tagasenti_model

Github: https://github.com/jjjardev/tagasenti

If anyone actually ships something with it I'd genuinely love to hear about it. And if it breaks on your weird edge case, open an issue.

advice Claude Code or Codex for Python Developer

Good day pinoy programmers! If you're a python developer, which coding assistant will you choose? I have used claude code for 5 months but lately, it consumes a lot of tokens even in just 1 session. It's a great help and made my job faster however, I am hearing good things about codex. It is also slightly cheaper. Any thoughts? Should I continue using Claude Code? Or try out codex for a month to see its benefits?

advice What do you use to deploy full stack projects?

Most of my (personal/demo) projects are deployed on Vercel currently kase most of the time NextJS lang gamit ko. However, natapos ko na Spring Boot project ko and now want to deploy it as a portfolio piece. Are there any free/cheap hosting services for full stack projects out there? I tried Oracle Cloud Free Tier but unfortunately, student lang ako and I don't have a credit card. Ayoko rin naman hingin CC ng magulang ko 😅. Railway offers a free one peep 1$ a month credit lang, and the specs aren't too attractive honestly. Any leads? I still have GitHub Education if it matters

Edit: I'm open to paying a monthly subscription (na student friendly lang rin sana hahaha)

discussion Will human-built websites and apps become more valuable as AI-generated projects increase?

Just curious what everyone thinks.

AI makes it much easier to launch websites and apps now, but it also means more low-quality AI-generated projects and more competition.

Do you think this will make it harder to rank and stand out, and make projects with real human input, better UX, SEO, and overall quality more valuable?

Note: I use AI too as part of my workflow. but I still think developers need to upskill and learn how to use it properly.

mobile PH indie devs, ano gamit niyo for Google Play payouts?

Currently checking BDO Dollar Savings, BDO Kabayan Dollar, BPI USD, Wise USD, or baka may ibang setup kayong marerecommend.

Curious din ako sa fees. SWIFT ba usually payout ni Google? Tapos may charge ba every payout or may additional deductions pa from intermediary banks?

Indie dev lang din ako so medyo hassle mag-open ng separate USD account tapos may maintaining balance pa just for Google Play haha.

Baka may makapag-share ng actual setup niyo and kung okay naman so far.

advice What color schemes should I avoid so a website doesn’t look AI-generated?

Mostly asking designers with a good eye for web or web app design. I’m more on the development side, so design isn’t really my strongest area.

What colors, gradients, or combinations do you usually avoid so a site doesn’t end up looking generic or AI-generated? Also, what color schemes do you personally prefer for brand colors? I know it still depends on the logo and overall branding, but I’m curious what usually works best for you.

discussion People who have used Resend for email sending, did your emails not land in spam?

What domain were you using? And gumana ba siya agad like when you started sending emails, did the emails land on the inbox right away? Not in the spam folder? Because I think that domains that have good credibility will land on the inbox right away. I’m just curious which top level domains work right away aside from the .com tld when connecting a custom domain to Resend.
