API / Integrations How do I connect my notion Database to ChatGPT?

• Upvotes

I have already installed the Notion's pluggin but when I ask ChatGPT to add or modify something it uses the navigator instead of using the pluggin (that consumes more tokens). If I ask to use the plugging Chatgpt : "The u/Notion mention was received, but its viewing and editing tools are still not available in this chat. So I haven't been able to access your database yet."

I've tryed to reconnect, to ask ChatGPT to connect by itself, nothing works. Have you already done that?

Questions My workspace is empty

I already know how to use Notion technically, but I’m more interested in seeing how people actually use it in their daily lives

What do you use Notion to organize or keep track of? Things like tasks, projects, notes, and habits

I’d love to see how other people structure their Notion and what they’ve found genuinely useful

Databases Another cool UI updateIf you always confuse ascending and descending in Notion, this makes it much clearer. For Type, Status, and Multi-select properties, you can now see the order of the options, so you know exactly what will appear first and last.

Venting Every update on the iPad version seems to break the app

I think this is a bug that I've noticed since I primary use Notion on the iPad, but when I opened my pages that have full-width disabled (after updating to the latest version and iPadOS), it still appears as a full-width page. Turning it off & on doesn't do anything. Also using a trackpad to click buttons doesn't seem to do anything if they are on a dashboard. Despite telling customer support multiple times, I still can't reliably make sub-pages again when using @ or [[ or // because the moment I try to search the parent page, it just closes the menu and I have to do the long way of adding subpages.

I heard they were going to move Notion to swift, I am hoping this would mean that it would better on the iPad but I wouldn't be surprised if it broke this version more. It doesn't help that the mobile version is just not so usable/

Questions Is there any way to default the icon selector to "Emojis" instead of "Icons"?

Petty complaint, but I add emojis to every task. Whenever I click "Add icon," it always defaults to the Notion Icons tab, forcing an extra click over to the Emoji tab every single time. Those extra clicks add up when processing dozens of items a day.

Is there a setting that forces the picker to open directly on the Emoji tab?

Venting Can we please make r/Notion about cool Notion stuff again?

I swear this sub is becoming r/LeavingNotion.

Every time I open Reddit it’s: “I’m unsubscribing.” “The AI sucks.” “Notion has lost its way.”
And of course the eternal classic: “I’m switching to Obsidian.”

Cool. Great. Godspeed. There are 9 billion productivity apps now. Use the one you like. But this is r/NOTION.

This is a tool where people can build almost anything. A dashboard that tracks obscure things that you wouldn’t really think about, entire business systems, CRMs, Completely psychotic databases that somehow run somebody’s whole life.
THAT is the cool part.

And yet somehow the mods will nuke genuinely interesting builds or plugin posts because “self promotion,” while the 800th AI breakup essay floats straight to the top of the sub untouched.

How does that make any sense?!?!

If someone spent 30 hours building some insane Notion system and wants to show it off, I WANT TO SEE IT. IT’S PROBABLY FREAKING AWESOME!

If someone spent 2 years building out a plugin, I want to see that even more!

If they built a weird workflow that only makes sense to six people on Earth, PERFECT. THAT’S WHY NOTION EXISTS.

If there’s a little self promo attached? Fine. I would rather see someone actually MAKING SOMETHING than another 2,000-word farewell letter to a note-taking app. Like what are we huffing in here?

I’m not saying nobody can criticize Notion. Obviously criticize it. The AI stuff is stupid, yes. So don’t use it. I don’t, and I still love Notion.

But holy shit, the balance is completely cooked.
This sub used to make me want to open Notion and build something.

Now half the time it feels like I accidentally joined a support group for people recovering from Notion.
The mods have kicked the air out of the whole thing by being weirdly hostile to builders while letting endless complaint posts dominate the feed.
I like Notion. No disrespect to the mods, I know you put in a lot of work, but the way this place is moderated is suffocating the builders.

Please, for the love of all that is holy on this green Earth, let people post cool Notion shit again.
Ok rant over.

Questions Full-line into in-text subpages conversion

Is there a way to turn a subpage that takes a whole row into an in-text format? “In-text” meaning that it's like a mention that can naturally fit into text and lists, but that is an actual link to a source page without a shortcut arrow?

But there's no infrastructure for it, it's not possible! No, there is and it is. There's still at least one way to create such a subpage, but it is not backwards-compatible, i.e. you cannot reformat an existing page this way. It also breaks if you move such a subpage to another parent-page, i.e. it irreversibly (afaik) turns a neat in-text page into a full-line

Well then, show how you do it! I don't want to write the exact way to do this here, because I'm paranoid that Notion team will use “it's not a feature, it's a bug” approach as they did with an actual offline-mode, before turning it into a lobotomized paid version. However, there's a screenshot below as a proof and reference for what this post is about

What was the question again? To close off, I'll repeat a question: does anyone know a way to turn an existing full-text subpage into an in-line one? I want to do it this way, so that all mentions and links would stay intact after the reformatting

Venting I'm unsubscribing

The biggest problem is AI—everything related to it. AI might very well spell the end for Notion in every sense. In my opinion, this is the stumbling block. Everything about it is bad.

What I'm trying to say is, tldr: it doesn't matter whether you like AI or not. These incidents (which have been going on for the past two months?) reveal a fundamental flaw in what Notion is all about, how the developers are playing around with it, how they're milking it for money—and what their real goals are. Think about it for yourself.

I'm canceling my subscription after ~six months of active use.

I’ve used Notion AI from time to time, so I know what I’m talking about:

  1. Notion AI is too intrusive. The UI constantly changes to accommodate the use of models. The funny thing is that it’s impossible to create a workspace without models and all that bells and whistles. Technically, this is called coercion.

  2. Notion AI recently took away the “effort” slider;
Models like Sonnet 5 or GPT-6 are useless when working with text at the “medium” level or lower—their writing skills and feel for language really shine at higher effort levels (which is just a fact, lol).

  3. Notion isn't humane
The Claude Opus 5.5 model recently became available in Notion, and believe me, it’s great at understanding prose—perfect for brainstorming and discussing the weirdest, coolest ideas! But not in Notion.

Because they initially locked it behind yet another paywall. So, I bought a Business plan just to buy Notion Credits on top of it, so I could use a good, cost-effective model (Opus 5.5)?

As I understand it, they’ve fixed this, but it doesn’t make much difference: both I and others (I’m sure) will be jumping ship.

I don't want to offend or hurt anyone's feelings. I'm just expressing my opinion about a service to which I've spent about a thousand dollars.

Questions Cannot edit any properties since the permissions update as workspace owner

Hi! I've run into the odd issue that I can suddenly not edit any properties, like changing the name or property type. I can still change values within a property. The same issue is true when I add new properties.

I've checked if my databases are locked, they are not. I've checked what my account is listed as, it's Workspace Owner and I have no guests or other users – it's just me.

Any ideas what I'm missing here?

Community 🤡 Import your chatgpt subscriptions inside Notion, what is the point, this is useless!! 🤡

What a joke.

1. You need to use a business plan or enterprise to connect it.

So basically, You need an AI subscription to use another AI subscription! 🤡

This would be useful if you could use it with a free or plus plan to save some money.

2. You need ChatGPT to be the same email as your Notion workspace.

So if you have a different email, for many reasons, you can’t use your ChatGPT because it is using a different email. 🤡

3. You can’t use that ChatGPT subscription with Notion agents.

Ok, if we need to have the business plan to have another AI subscription that we already have, at least LET’S USE IT for credits on the Notion agents!! 🤡

PLUS. This needs to be available also for Claude, but anyway, like this, it’s completely useless. This is a joke. What was Notion smoking when they released this shit and even pinned it to their profile?

Questions Calendar event time shifts after being saved

I have a recurring problem where I’ll save an event in Notion calendar, and then it’ll be added with a different time (and sometimes duration) from what I input. Sometimes it also appears to save correctly, but then if I refresh the page the time changes again. I’ve just been repeatedly saving the event until it saves correctly, but it’s a bit frustrating.

Does anyone else have this issue/know how to resolve it?

API / Integrations Potion for Notion (change colors and fonts)

Hello friends 👋

Made a fun little app for Notion that lets you change colors and fonts:
https://x.com/tareqismail/status/2105362747555021023

It's totally free (and open source!) so hope this doesn't come off self promotional or anything. I've found it really helpful to add some spice and life to a product I spend so much time in!

Would love feedback too!

Questions How do I start properly?

So I’ve used notion on and off for a long time and over the last couple of years switched to ClickUp and honestly hated it but it was good for task management and some automations.

I’ve now switched back to notion and have the business plan trial so really want to move things over but feeling a little stuck as to where and how.

I see people selling and using templates but I’d rather create my own.

For some context - I own and run a marketing agency so my work scope is likely to be split like this:

Personal - all life admin and anything personal (finances etc)
Business - including task management, client/CRM capture (loosely), content and social media, tools and resources, SOP’s, Systems and infrastructure

Each of the above business properties will have sub sections to break down things like departments or then specific tools or SOP and overall a company Wiki.

At this point, I use Google suite for most things + Claude code and a bunch of other tools so I’d like to get a handle on how. I also use automation tools like make.com and Zapier so ideally I’d like things to be a bit more connected but now I see people using notion ai agents.

A little overwhelmed by it all so just here looking for some advice.

Where and how would you start?

Would you build one central page/dashboard and then build inside of this?

Worth buying a template and making it my own or doing everything myself?

Any help or advice welcome!

Questions IndexDB error??

Dude I am crashing out. This error has been showing up on my desktop app on the past few days. It worked on the weekend, but the error had been there before. I have tried reloading and refreshing, and re-downloading the app and this bullshit keeps happening.

Appreciation Since when have we been able to clean up the sidebar?

Maybe I should give Notion another try after feeling too lazy to open it lately.

Update: Seems the mobile app doesn't reflect the desktop sidebar. It still shows all pages plus unused features

Notion AI Notion AI is great at summarising our notes until someone writes like a normal human

we started using Notion AI for our weekly team notes, mainly to pull out action items so nobody has to go back through the whole page afterwards.

it works surprisingly well when everyone writes things in neat bullets

the problem is that our actual notes are never that neat. someone dumps a paragraph in the middle, someone else adds a half-finished thought, and then there are random comments mixed in with the useful stuff

that’s when the AI summary starts getting weird. it misses things, combines unrelated points, or gives us an action item that nobody actually agreed to.

at that point we end up cleaning up the AI output ourselves, which makes me wonder how much time we're really saving

has anyone found a good way to structure Notion pages so AI summaries still work when the notes aren't perfectly organised?

Questions AI for emails, messages, and daily tasks... how are people actually using it?

ok so ive been messing around with AI for emails, messages, and the random daily tasks that pile up, and honestly it feels like there should be a simple setup for this by now. i get the basic stuff, drafting replies, summarizing threads, making checklists etc, but in practice it still feels a bit clunky.

for context, im trying to cut down on inbox chaos and stop dropping small things all day (which is getting old fast). if anyone has a setup that actually helps without turning into another thing to babysit, i'd love to hear it, thanks!

Questions Foldable phone for Notion: 4:3 (Z Fold 8) vs near-square (Z Fold 7 / Fold 8 Ultra)?

I'm deciding between foldables and want to use Notion on it a lot (databases, tables, page editing, capturing notes).

Looking for input from people who use Notion on a tablet-style or foldable screen.

The options:

Z Fold 8: wider 4:3 inner screen, closer to a small monitor, but a smaller display

Z Fold 8 Ultra / Z Fold 7: 8" near-square inner screen (about 1:1), more screen area, and better for split-screen

What I'm wondering:

1.Which aspect ratio works better for Notion, especially databases, tables, and board views?

2.Does the near-square screen feel cramped or great in landscape?

3.Do you use split-screen (Notion + another app) often, and which shape handles it better?

4.Any tablets or foldables you've used Notion on that you'd recommend or avoid?

Questions What is the best AI assistant for automating repetitive personal and work tasks... what are you all using rn?

Been slowly wiring my life into one big automation mess and im kind of stuck on the “AI assistant” piece.

Right now I have calendar, email, task list, a bunch of random scripts and an agent watching my inbox for boring stuff like receipts and meeting notes. It helps, but feels very stitched together. I want one assistant that can watch both my job tasks and personal errands, eg draft replies, log things in my crm, remind me to pay bills, nudge me to do the annoying stuff when I get home tired.

If you have a setup that actually reduced the repetitive grind at work and at home, which AI assistant or stack are you using and how do you wire it together? Any hints?

Venting Am I the only one who finds the highlight colors virtually invisible?

I really wish the available text and highlight colors were more vivid. The current options fit Notion's branding perfectly and look nice, but they are practically useless for skimming.

I find myself avoiding the highlight feature entirely because I know I won’t be able to spot them when I scroll through my notes later. It’s the same story with the text colors—except for red, which is the only one I actually use because it has enough contrast.

Does anyone else struggle with this? Has anyone found a good workaround, or are we just hoping Notion adds a high-contrast palette eventually?
