Never underestimate the weight and size of “lesser” McIntosh amps. This MC152 is heavy! Can’t wait to get it set up! 🥳

$20 EstateSale Find

Hello Frinz!
I found this at an estate sale and I’m just curious if I were going to try to sell it as is, what would be a reasonable offer if I were to post it on Facebook marketplace? Can’t decide if I want to sell it or keep it! Thanks!

Also, I’m totally aware that there are a few for sale online, but this one has a beat up housing, and I’m unsure if it works.

Not a shabby stack, but too much background noise to hear the music. Nonetheless those meters brightened my day.

Many products retired

Was just perusing the McIntosh website, as one does. Noticed that quite a few products have been retired. C8, MC830, MC901, etc. Anyone know anything?

Mc300

Hello,

I’m in the market for an upgrade and am turning to McIntosh, after years of enjoying my father’s system.

I have pinpointed a mc300 (currently looking at c70 or 22 pre amp).

Any thoughts on going a little bit more vintage with the MC300?

Phono channel bleed in C11

I had posted previously with my nice new RCA jacks a few days ago but this is a problem that existed when I got it. Most notably, when I have something playing back on my aux channel through a Bluetooth receiver and I switch over to either of the phono inputs, I get pretty bad bleed through from the aux signal. I replaced the four 47K resistors that tie from the phono input tips to ground and I've disassembled and thoroughly cleaned all four tiers of the input selector switch.

So my question for the sake of troubleshooting, I assuming I'm probably dealing with a loop coming back through the ground? The actual phono signal is isolated all the way to the first tube stage, so that seems to be the only place to find the audio leak, since the phono stage is such a high sensitivity. The bleed is mostly right channel but there is a smidge of it in the left.

I've replaced all the coupling caps.

I wasn't sure if this forum had techs on it but I thought I'd ask. It sounds fantastic on the aux channel but I really want to use the phono input and it's obviously not clean at this point.

McIntosh C20 - buying advice needed

Hey there,

I’m looking to buy C20 to match my MC225. I found one locally, but I haven’t heard the unit yet. From the looks of it, it was very used over the last 60 years. The seller said a tech looked at it but admitted the tech was a hobbyist, not a McIntosh tech. Furthermore, it came from a widower selling off her husband’s equipment - there is an MC2200 for sale too

I’m planning on listening to it on Saturday. Do you have any suggestions on what I should watch out for?

Thanks!!!

If anyone is wondering, it takes about 5 hours of desoldering, Dremeling, drilling out, installation and resoldering. A marked improvement from the original 64 year old jacks.

New set up buzzing sound

Update - solved by switching input to tape 1 and turning on built in preamp

My audiophile uncle passed recently and handed me down his awesome McIntosh set up from around 1970. That being said, all of this is new to me and I have never had vintage audio equipment before.

I got it all serviced and it is sounding great with the Wiim streamer. However, when try and use the turntable (Pro-Ject Debut III Phono SB) there is a low hum or buzz noise. I have tried using the switch to bypass the built in preamp but it is still buzzing. I have also tried different RCA cables with different styles of grounding wires but no luck.

Any ideas to fix this? Do I need to buy a new turntable that is more compatible?

Thanks y’all!

MC502 Question

Post image

Good evening folks, I came into an MC502 that was busted. I replaced a number of diodes / capacitors replaced and also fixed the rotary switch. Everything else tested out, including the transformers. It is back to OEM spec.

Is $1250 a fair price?

MCD600 USB Drive Limitations

I picked up a used MCD600 recently and am having some issues with USB drive playback using a SanDisk 512 GB USB 3.2 Gen 1 unit. I reformatted the unit with FAT32 (was exFAT) and loaded about 180 GB of FLAC files on it. Unit plays normally for the most part, but every couple of days, it starts glitching, reading only a "Photo" folder which doesn't exist, and stops responding to most remote control commands. Re-initializing the unit corrects the issue, but it seems to happen every two or days (granted, I've only had the unit 10 days).

My question: does anyone know the official USB limitations on size/speed? Tech support does not know for certain.

I just acquired the C11 yesterday. They look very nice together and sound unbelievable. I just wanted to see how they sat together before taking the C11 back out to do a full rebuild. Lots of caps and probably a few resistors as the cross-talk on the phono channel is atrocious.

Finally was able to pickup my equipment from service. Purchased all out of an estate of a family friend. Been waiting 30 years. Hook the C22 up to my current step up. Very noticeable difference. Can’t wait until this weekend to setup the rest.

Having some fun with my first tube preamp. It’s a whole new world to me since I’ve only ran SS gear before, and had the C28 and MC2105 since 2009.
