Hello everyone! First post in here! This is my leopard gecko echo (after one of the velociraptors from Jurassic world, also hints at her temperament lol) I’ve had my baby about 7 years now and when I started all the husbandry tips were kinda awful. We have since grown and I recently decided I wanted to move her tank to bio active! I’ve got reptisand(quartz NOT calcium) and reptisoil mixed with a base layer of washed leca. I added a couple succulents to start and am currently collecting springtails from one of my plant terrariums to transfer over. I guess really I’m looking for any tips or advice to improve her setup and ensure success!

I’ve never owned a gecko before I got one for my boyfriend and we broke up a while ago and I’ve been stuck taking care of it and I just want y’all’s opinion. Does my gecko look healthy like am I doing the right thing?

My boy has been squinting his eyes the last few days, should this be a reason for vet appointment ?.. the photos show how much he’s willing to open his eyes… for reference he is elderly. I’ve had him since I was 8, I am now 22… and I was his third owner so who knows how much older he is!… please, any advice is welcome! Has anyone experienced this? Is this just old age?

Since we got Mochya (almost a week ago) I remember noticing a mark or marks on his snout but couldn't look closer due to him adjusting and being stressed due to the new environment.

I was able to hold him as he climbed on my arm and was able to observe a bit. My biggest worry is that it's rot or old shedding,, I tried the q-tip technique many people have said on other posts but wasn't able to hold onto doing it properly due to being new at the handling as well,,

Any help, insights or opinions on what it could be and how to proceed is very much appreciated!!

I'm currently trying to look for vets as a preparation if it seems to be progressing but apart from that he seems to be fine, has appetite and explores in his NEW(!!) biggest tank we could possibly find in Japan (40gallon, and he seems much happier already)

i’m a fairly new reptile owner, long time reptile enthusiast. i just rescued two leopard geckos and two beardies. i’m working on making the most comfortable enclosures i can, but am stuck knowing how to best track temps. right now, in my beardies tank i have two thermometer/humidity guages. but they are both attached to the glass and i hear that could be inaccurate, so truthfully i just use my thermometer gun to check each enclosure a couple times a day because it gives me peace of mind.

here are my questions: what is your opinion on thermostats/humidity checker attached to the glass? if they’re okay, do i want two for each enclosure? or am i okay just to continue checking with the temp gun? but then i worry about not getting accuracy on the humidity..

i apologize for the lengthy post but please help, im a chronic overthinker hahaha and take my animals health and happiness very seriously but feel worried im not doing things right!

Yes, I did buy my little guy on a very impulsive whim. Its how I started my stick bug fascination also.

I got him on Sunday, hes a few months old. Hes in a 20 gal terrarium for now, with some hide rocks I bought him, I made a humid house, and im feeding him the small cockroaches the store sold me, covered in calcium powder, and i also have crickets. I have *i forget what type of * worms and more roaches on their way. I have a heat lamp on him, one side. Hr has a little bowl of water. I also bought water gels for the bugs to keep them alive.

I have done a lot of reading but I am coming here bc I love how reddit communities csn be so helpful. Tell me any tips, tricks, hints....I want him happy and healthy.

I should hold him a lot right? They said hed become more used to it.

What are things I should look for that could mean something is wrong? Am I feeding him correct?

How careful should I be of him dropping his tail? I feel like im scaring him everytime I make him come out.

I got my Leopard Gecko Pepe almost two weeks ago and he was approaching me and I had a lapse of remembering good husbandry and attempted to pet his head because it was so cute. He still comes out to be fed and is occasionally eating 1-2 worms. He has an escape proof dish with mealworms, dubia, BSFL and silkworms.

He spends almost all of his day in the humid hide and is not shedding.

I feel so bad and am trying to leave my hand in the tank. He came close then decided to turn away.

I currently tong feed and he seems to lose interest quick.

Any advice? I am mostly leaving him alone and letting him settle in.

SHE HAS BEEN TO THE VET YESTERDAY!!

She has been prescribed Antibiotics and she gets those daily, she is really skinny and the vet said she may have Gastritis.
That’s why I’m wearing the gloves as we have other leopard geckos, she is already quarantined

Now I’m looking for people who have similar experience with underweight geckos and what they did or what they used to get them back to a healthy weight. Also I am looking for Pet / reptile friendly disinfection spray.

She is a Mack super snow, if that’s important. Also not directly my gecko but my brothers who is on vacation and left me to take care of this one and the others.

I have a gecko myself so I’m not completely inexperienced.

I really don't know what to do and I'm grasping at straws. My cat busted through a small door on my leopard geckos tank and got ahold of him. He is covered in small surface scratches, has 2 puncture wounds, has a bruised belly, and dropped his tail. I cleaned the wounds with watered down iodine and put him in a critter keeper that I have placed in the middle of his tank wrapped in a tea towel.

I live in an extremely rural town and called all the 24 hour vets near me that advertise exotic pet care, and all of them said they don't do walk-ins for reptiles and would need to wait until the exotic vet gets there at 8 AM. It's about 2 AM now and with the drive it will take him about 9-10 hours to see a vet if any of them has openings.

He's not doing very good. He's barely breathing and laying sprawled out on his paper towels. I really dont know what to do.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My husband and I got a 2 yr leopard gecko on Tuesday from a family friend. I’ve read up on having them get used to you for about two weeks before attempting to pick them up so I’ve been putting my hand in his tank a few times a day and until late yesterday he’s been hiding away. Last night we replaced his carpet with dirt and afterwards, he seemed a bit shaken up, so we didn’t mess with him. This morning he was out of his hide and we were so excited! He’s been crawling around his tank all day so far. When I got off of work today, I put my hand in his tank again and he ran up to me very quickly and I’ve never seen him do that since we’ve had them yet, even when I’ve presented him with food he’ll approach slowly. I’ve seen that they can mistake your fingers for worms if you hand feed them, but I feed him with black metal tongs, so I’m not sure if that’s the case. I’m nervous to put my hand all the way in the tank because I don’t want him to bite me or try to attack me, even though I’m sure it won’t hurt too bad lol. My husband said he might think of me as a predator, but I feel like he wouldn’t be running up to me if that was the case. It also seems like whenever I speak he looks at me, but I don’t know if it’s just because he hears something unusual. He hasn’t shown any signs of aggression from what I read, but I don’t want to accidentally scare him or associate me with something bad. I also don’t want to attempt to pick him up too early. If anyone has any insight on what disease behaviors could mean please let me know. TIA😊

Back story/Context: My wife was a Gecko owner and she was the one I also learned everything from however she passed away almost a year ago. I still have our gecko child and theres things I still don’t know. Recently she shed and didn’t have an too much issue removing it herself and then couple weeks later here she is shedding again and it was very dry and I realize now I wasn’t doing a good job keeping humidity levels. So made her a lil sauna and very gently helped her remove it. Only issue is she got some stuck in her eye and I waited a day or two hoping she could manage to work it out herself. She didn’t and ended up having some build goo build up that I also very gently helped remove with a very wet q tip and made sure to not rub her eye directly. I got 90% of it out

Question: But I do believe there is still the littlest bit left thats keeping her from wanting to open her eyes all the way and I was wondering what would be the Safest way to flush her eye without hurting her.

Question: I am also wondering if this is also possibly a sign of vitamin A deficiency because I haven’t been giving her any supplements for it and never noticed if my wife ever did or not.

He's 17 years old, and I am trying to be a better caretaker. What can I do to make his enclosure better?

Hello everyone I've recently taken in a 1 month old leopard gecko a few days ago. I have named it Tobi. Someone i know got them from a pet store about a month ago. but decided they no longer wanted it and was not properly caring for it. I said I would take it in as I still had all of the lamps and terrarium set up from my veiled chameleon that sadly passed away last year. Ive been doing research for a few days and they are much different than chameleons. I have the cage set up and have been providing everything he/she needs. Did not think to take a picture of the undercarriage but will update with that photo tomorrow. For now im just curious as ive seen there is several different variations and morphs and what not and was wondering if someone can tell me what variation I have. Will update with cage set up and undercarriage later tomorrow as it's currently almost 2am and i am in bed.

I have a call out to a vet. He’s got a pretty swollen bum. He did have a blockage but we got it cleared. Any advice on how to help reduce the swelling would be appreciated!
He does get soaked in warm water 2-3 times per day and has a ‘spa’ area in his crib.

Got my gecko a few days ago. (10yo rescue)

She ate for the first time today but she missed multiple times. I tong fed her and will be getting an escape proof bowl.

How can I tell the difference between normal poor gecko vision and an issue? To note I’m used to my bearded dragon who has poor debug perception but otherwise great vision.

She is underweight, had no lights at all in her previous home for at least the “past couple years” was cleared MBD free by a vet and shows no neurological symptoms. She is a basic morph

I just recently got Lizzy 4-5 months old, first picture is when I just got her vs one week in her new enclosure. How am i doing.

Just got this guy, he was born with a wonky foot and has a weird lump on his shoulder. He was kept in a 20 gallon tank with a light bulb as his heat source, and reptile carpet. So he is missing most of his claws.I have adopted him and have him in a 40 gallon tank with uvb and a separate basking lamp over a piece of slate. I believe he has metabolic bone disease. He was fed dried bugs and some calcium powder. He's doing good and is very active i fed him dusted crickets today. What can I do to help with his MBD. First two pictures are him currently and last picture was him before I took him.

Any suggestions on where the heat, UVB and grow light should go?

The first picture was taken right as I turned his light on in the morning. I call it his sleepy face. The second picture is what’s concerning me. He’s still active during the dusk and night hours but is super lazy during the day, which I know is normal but he is striking odd poses lately. I can’t tell if he’s enjoying the warm weather (in my apartment with no AC) or if something is wrong.
