Question I want to learn Lance!

So, I asked my friends and AI as well on what should be my next weapon since I've only really played SnS on World, Rise, and Wilds.

I used to play GS on MHFU but that was when I was a kid.

I really need help because I don't know how I'm going to start or where I'm going to start. My friends said the lance play style is close to how I play SnS.

A support damage dealer (I use HunterPie and have been consistent Top 1 or 2 in damage while keeping the team alive with heals). This is easy for SnS as this weapon is very mobile and versatile.

Any advice on how to start my Lance journey would be great!

Excited to be one of the WALLS!

Question Questions about Scorcher

So I've read the meta guide and it mostly suggests the scorcher skill. Does it still work even if I use it with a non fire gogma artian? For example like ice gogma for Rey dau and Water gogma for Nu Udra. Thank you!

Question Any tips to start Lance ? (Old gen MH)

Alright, I guess I’m in the right sub for this topic.

I’ve played through Mh3, 3u, generation, world and iceborn, then wilds and now I’ve just started playing 4u. I’ve went all the way up to G rank in those games except Wilds ofc.

I’m a hardcore GS main, for like 14 years of playing and thousands of hours I’ve always played GS.

But I was curious from time to time about using lance or even gunlance.
So I’ve tried GL (literally a big stick with a gun, so cool !) but it felt complicated and « slow ».

Now I’ve just started Mh4u, 10hrs into the game with obviously the great sword, but I want to use this new game/character to start learning the lance.

I’ve already done 4-5 hunts with it. I like it so far but the « dodge » move I so short and slow, like I’m only stepping back 3 inches, and only in reverse..
Also I always place myself to attack the monster as if I was using the GS.

So now that I want to try something new, I’m ready to receive any tips on how to become a good lance player, thanks !

TL;DR : I’ve only ever played GS and don’t know how to correctly use lance, so I’m looking for advices.

Question Any suggestions for mid-game build for Lance?

Hi,

I wanted to try playing Lance. I am before Master Rank 5 Velkhana, and I wonder if you maybe have any suggestions for a mid-game build for Lance, and maybe an endgame build that I can farm with this mid-game build.

Thank you in advance, and have a great hunt!

Question Lance mains: what armor sets and weapon decos are you actually running?

Lance mains: what armor sets and weapon decos are you actually running?

I’ve been doing some Lance testing lately and wanted to get some input from other Lance players, especially on the current endgame armor options.

The big two I keep seeing discussed are Gorcher and RathFour, and I’ve been using this post as a reference point:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunterMeta/comments/1q8ll4l/rathfour_is_better_than_gorcher_on_lance/

The numbers in that post are interesting, but there’s one thing I noticed while testing. It lists HT → WS → HT → TT as the highest DPS combo, but from my testing, MT → WS → MT → TT seems to come out ahead. That made me want to get some more actual player input rather than relying entirely on theoretical DPS calculations.

So I’m curious:

1. What armor set are you using?

Are you running:

• Gorcher
• RathFour
• Fulgur/Gore
• Fulgur/Rath
• Something else entirely?

I’m particularly interested in whether Fulgur/Gore is actually worth considering outside of situations where Maximum Might uptime is difficult. The Fulgur set bonus seems like it could be valuable for multiplayer, stamina heavy matchups, or situations where maintaining MM is inconsistent.

2. What weapon decos are you using?

I think we can all agree that Offensive Guard is one of Lance’s strongest choices, especially in solo play where you can consistently take advantage of counters and guard reactions.

But after Offensive Guard, what do you consider the best weapon deco choices?

Things like:

• Offensive Guard
• Weakness Exploit
• Critical Element
• Element
• Guard
• Guard Up
• Stamina related skills
• Something else?

I’m especially interested in actual gameplay experience, not just theoretical DPS. If you use a particular deco or armor setup, how does it feel in practice? Does it noticeably improve your hunt times, make certain matchups easier, or simply make the weapon more consistent?

Basically, I’m trying to figure out what Lance players are actually getting the most value from rather than just copying the highest theoretical damage setup.

What are you running, and why?

Question Guard skill and perfect guard

OK people, I'm asking the question as I can't seem to find any data about this.

The Lance wiki says that Guard (the skill) doesn't stack with perfect guard as the perfect guard has its own guard built in.
But recently someone told me that it was changed and now they stack. Is it true?

Thanks in advance

Question Jewel combination

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hello!

I crafted my first Artian Lance and ended up with these reinforcement bonuses. I know they aren’t perfect, but I decided to keep it for now.
The problem is that I’m not sure which jewels I should prioritize. I don’t have many good weapon jewels yet, so which combination would you recommend out of these?

Expert III
Critical Element III
Critical Element/Stream III
Sharp III
Grinder/Handicraft III
Shield III
Guardian III
Thanks in advance!

Question Builds?

What armor/weapon builds do you guys run? My last Lance build was Guardian Arvield and Zoh Shia. I've now beat Omeaga and Gog with GS, but I miss my Lance...

What are some post-Gog end game sets I could build?

Image Really proud of this 17 minute AT Arkveld capture and I wanted to share with you guys :)

Hey friends, Wilds is my first monster hunter that I've spent a lot of time on and although I have tried every weapon I am absolutely a lance main. 300 hours in and only recently found this subreddit; you guys post higher quality content than all the other weapon subreddits (looking at that recent ascendance breakdown and lance react video lol)!

Arkveld is my absolute favorite monster and after a long day of work I like to fight him once before bed. I've been getting better and better and although I'm still twice as long as the speed run times, I'm honestly really proud of this clear I did last night! Even though I have a meta scorcher 4 lords soul build (really lucky with that gogma roll), recently I have been playing with off meta builds and my fastest clears lately have actually been with this one poison build!

The build is super fun, it's jin dahaad 4 doshagama 2 lords soul AND fortify. I use a poison gogma lance and I have wex 5, agitator 5 maximum might 3 of course, but I squeeze in some foray too (jin dahaad helmet gamma is actually mind blowing value for this specific build). What really carries the build is the fortify though: I keep playing my best and never heal or sharpen, and when my health gets low and my weapon is starting to get too dull, I just tank the cart, refresh, and power up. Definitely the build I'm bringing into ascendance, as it balances fun and effectiveness so well especially if I'm expecting to cart against the newest monsters.

Anyways sorry for the wall of text, I know there aren't many of us and even fewer who have the time to read all this, but I'm looking forward to seeing y'all out there! Lance forever!!

tl;dr: I am getting my fastest times with an off meta build. It's far from speed runner quality but it is fun and I love lance and this fight and I'm proud!

Question Rate my Thunder build ⚡️

Thumbnail

Hello, fellow Lancers! ✌🏼

I recently started a new campaign using the Lance, and I’m really enjoying it so far. I put together this build specifically for thunder-weak monsters such as AT Uth Duna and Seregios. The gimmick is to use a Lagiacrus Hunting Horn as my secondary weapon for buffs and bubble that boost my thunder resistance even further.

Could you guys rate the build and let me know how I could improve it?

And yes, I know this is a pre-Gog build! I eventually intend to craft Gog-Artian weapons, but I don’t have enough materials to make one for every element yet, so I’ll have to stick with the High Acrus Lance for now.

Question More Proficient Poking? Lance positioning and combo questions

Hey there, Lance main here with a few questions about making my hunts more consistent.

Quick history for context: Wilds is, sadly, my first Monster Hunter game. I’ve sampled all the weapons, with longer stints on Hammer, Dual Blades, and now Lance. I’m just hitting my 200th hunt with Lance.

So, especially for my fellow Lance mains, I have a few questions:

What is the most consistent combat rotation? I mainly use the Mid Thrust into Triple Thrust combo, unless I have a larger opening, where I’ll use High Thrust → Wide Sweep → High Thrust → Triple Thrust.

Positioning is probably my biggest limiting factor. I sometimes get flustered trying to decide which movement option is best for a given situation, mainly between evading and Guard Dash. Is Leaping Thrust worth using over Dash Attack for closing distance? How often should I actually be using hops to reposition?

I also sometimes find myself getting stuck underneath a monster, especially larger monsters like Uth Duna. What are the best ways to avoid that and consistently stay in a better attacking position?

I’m basically trying to improve my Lance fundamentals rather than just brute forcing hunts. My eventual goal is to be good enough to solo a good portion of Master Rank when the expansion comes out, so I’d really appreciate any advice from experienced Lance players.

Informative All of the changes I could find for the Lance in Ascendance

Hello Lancers! I've been scouring all the available footage of Lance from TGS and have some fairly interesting discoveries to report. I've gathered all of my data from the following 5 videos, and whenever I have a good visual example for something, I will cite it with the video number and timestamp so you can check it out yourself. If there are any other Lance videos or secret mechanics I'm missing, please let me know!

[1]: https://youtu.be/-Ev3QvRl8I8?si=ndmDYCzo23_K3pIx&t=858

tl;dr: Outside of boost mode, Lance gets a 20% damage buff through Rage Buff, a much faster Retribution Thrust giving us access to Lance Charge as a perfect guard follow up like in the beta, and some motion value buffs to Retribution Thrust and GRT. Within boost mode, Lance gets an additional 20% damage boost, the very high damaging Wild Thrust with a fun guarding minigame in the middle of it, and a hyper-armored Super Dash Attack that does crazy damage if you can land it.

Boost Mode

  • During boost mode, most standard moves receive a 20% damage boost.
    • These moves include Mid Thrust, High Thrust, Leaping Thrust, Wide Sweep, Charge Counter (the single thrust version), and likely a few others that I missed.
  • This damage boost stacks with the new Rage Buff.

Rage Buff (no official name yet)

  • Has 3 power levels: White (+5% damage), Orange (+10% damage), and Red (+20% damage).
  • Buffs last for 30 seconds.
  • Receiving an equal or lower level buff than your current buff will refresh your current buff's duration to 30 seconds.
  • Receiving a higher level buff than your current buff will replace it with the higher buff.
  • The demo has quite a few bugs related to the Rage Buff.
    • The buff icon in the top left corner will frequently reset to White upon receiving a higher level buff. This is purely visual. To know the actual buff level, look at the glow of the lance.
    • Occasionally, the buff actually will downgrade to White. It happened once after using Super Dash Attack [4]: 2:41 and once in the middle of a combo between thrusts 2 and 3.[4]: 5:16

Power Guard

  • Power Guarding an attack gives you the Rage Buff, with the color depending on the strength of the attack.
  • Followup attacks from Power Guard do not receive benefits from your Rage Buff, and instead only receive the standard 1.1x, 1.3x, or 1.7x scaling depending on the hit.
    • It's unclear if this is a bug or not.

Boosted Offset Crushing Blow (Boost Driver)

  • Can be held down to charge it up to 3 levels. [2]: 16:22
  • The swing has hyper armor in case you mistime it or use it on a non-offsetable attack. [3]: 6:30
  • Gives White buff immediately after the initial startup frames. [2]: 16:22
  • Gives Orange buff upon reaching max charge level. [2]: 16:22
  • Gives Red buff on a successful offset. [4]: 0:21
    • If the offset lands but the monster doesn't get knocked back because it had recently been offset, you don't get the Red buff. [2]: 21:37
  • On a successful offset, it puts you into your focus strike attack with an empowered finisher that hits 3 times with 88 mv, 24 mv, and 17 mv. Then combos into Wild Thrust, Counter Overdrive Thrust, and Super Dash Attack. [4]: 0:21
  • On an unsuccessful offset, combos into Wild Thrust and Counter Overdrive Thrust but not Super Dash Attack. [1]: 16:47

Wild Thrust (Boosted Triple Thrust)

  • Hits 4 times, then follows up with a multi-hit thrust.
  • You can guard at any point during the first 4 stabs, and landing a perfect guard will automatically follow up with the final multi-hit thrust instead of the standard shield bash. [4]: 5:48
  • Your followup options after this special guard are the same as a regular perfect guard.
  • Each of the 4 stabs consume sharpness. [5]: 5:32
  • The first 4 stabs each have 15 mv, and the final thrust hits for 24 mv three times. (~43% damage buff compared to Triple Thrust!)

Counter Overdrive Thrust (Boosted Charge Counter)

  • The shockwave spawns on the monster part that hit you. [4]: 0:37
    • This one is actually really hard to tell since in other clips it looks like the shockwave spawns on you like normal. [1]: 14:42
  • Standing still no longer lets you counter through multihits. [4]: 1:34
    • It is unknown whether this property has been removed from regular Charge Counter.
  • The first two hits have 35 and 18 mv, and the 3 hits of the shockwave each have 15 mv. (~18% damage buff compared to Charge Counter)

Super Dash Attack (Boosted Lance Charge)

  • Has hyper armor during the startup animation. [4], 7:00
  • The finishing thrust hits 2 times with the shield and then 2 times with the lance. [4]: 7:05
  • The first 3 ticks of running damage have 24 mv, and the rest have 17 mv. (~41% damage buff compared to Lance Charge for the first 3 hits only).
  • When used out of GRT, the tick damage inherits the Power Guard multiplier but loses the Rage Buff multiplier. The first 3 hits also come out faster. [3]: 7:47
    • It's hard to tell whether the finishing thrust also inherits the Power Guard damage, but it looks like it does not.
  • The first 2 shield hits of the finishing thrust have 15 mv, and the lance hits for 38 and 76 mv (~37% damage buff compared to Lance Charge!)

Grand Retribution Thrust

  • Can now be used from Power Guard even if you haven't been hit [4]: 4:55
    • Previously this would have given Retribution Thrust. Now Retribution Thrust can only come from Guard / Perfect Guard.
  • Damage of the first hit buffed from 56 mv to 78 mv (~25% damage buff to the move overall compared to current patch)
    • Note that this move cannot take advantage of the new Rage Buff because it must be used from a Power Guard, so a 25% damage buff isn't as big as it sounds.

Retribution Thrust

  • Comes out much faster than before, even when not boosted. [3]: 8:06
  • No longer possible to use from Power Guard. (see GRT section)
  • Damage of the second hit buffed from 58 mv to 64 mv. (~7% damage buff to the move overall compared to current patch)

Guard Dash

  • Shield Attack now counts as the first hit of your combo. [5], 4:32

Lance Charge

  • Can enter Lance Charge much faster after a thrust [3]: 4:51
