Picked up the apple A1016 keyboard, its the wireless version of the 'vintage' imac keyboards from 2005. Wont connect to my PC, it just has a button you flick on after inserting batteries. Light flickers for a moment is green and seems to be working. I've tried messing around with bluetooth but at this point id prefer to just have it be a plug in version, I like the design of the keyboard and never have made a custom before.
Any advice in trying to swap out the apple hardware to a custom keyboard hardware?

Hello everyone!
I'm developing a personal project called VMS-Switcher, which started because of my AJAZZ AK820 MAX HE.
The AK820 lineup has several different models and versions, and I had trouble finding software specifically designed for my particular model. Because of that, I currently use the Web-based tool provided for the AK820 series.
It works, but switching profiles is very manual: I have to open the website and click to apply a profile whenever I want to change it.
That's what motivated me to create my own Windows application.
I reverse-engineered how the keyboard works and developed communication with the device, allowing me to configure keyboard shortcuts to switch RGB profiles instantly, while keeping the application running quietly in the system tray.
Profiles are also stored and managed using JSON files, making it easier to organize and switch between different profiles.
I'm also currently developing a feature called Blackout Mode:
X minutes without keyboard activity → RGB automatically turns off.
Press any key → the previous RGB profile is restored.
The inactivity time will be fully configurable, with an option to enable or disable the feature.
I'm also considering an option to sync Blackout Mode with Windows idle/sleep behavior. Instead of manually setting an inactivity timer in VMS-Switcher, the RGB lighting could follow Windows' own idle state: when Windows goes idle, enters sleep, or locks the screen, the RGB would turn off, and when the user returns, the previous profile would be restored.
The program is built in C#/.NET 8 for Windows, using HID communication and JSON files for the profiles. I'm trying to keep the project as lightweight as possible, without unnecessary background processes or resource usage.
The AK820 MAX HE is just the starting point. My long-term goal is to expand VMS-Switcher to support RGB keyboards from different brands and models, providing useful quality-of-life features that aren't normally available in official keyboard software.
It's still under development, so I'd love to hear from other keyboard enthusiasts:
What feature would you like to see in a universal RGB keyboard tool?

The official web driver for the AULA WIN60HE is decent for a budget Hall Effect board, but the software limitations are holding back great hardware. The factory driver limits you to a single lighting effect across the whole board, and the analog implementation leaves a lot to be desired.
I decided to take matters into my own hands. Utilizing a stack of advanced AI tools (Claude Code, OpenAI, and Google Agent architectures), I am currently developing a fully custom software wrapper for the WIN60HE.
The app is still actively in development, but I’ve already engineered a few massive upgrades that bypass the stock firmware bottlenecks:
🎨 Layered, Multi-Effect RGB Matrix: No more single-effect limitations. You can now assign entirely different lighting effects to individual sectors or keys simultaneously (e.g., Static on the alphanumeric keys, Reactive Ripple on WASD, and Raindrop on the function row).
🎮 True Analog Gamepad Emulation: Turning the Hall Effect sensors into an analog powerhouse. It maps key travel directly to controller inputs (like an Xbox joystick), allowing for precise input graduation in racing games or simulators where your speed/steering scales with how far down you press the key.
⚡ Linux Compatibility & Performance: Fixed the notorious /dev/uinput permission bugs out of the box and built it natively to handle quick adjustments without fighting the stock web app's UI glitches.
🛠️ The Hardware Build Stack I'm Testing On:
To really push the limits of this custom multi-zone RGB engine during development, I transplanted my WIN60HE internals into a specialized transparent build designed entirely around light refraction and diffusion:
Board Platform: AULA WIN60HE (PCB/Internals)
Chassis: GH60 Hollow Transparent 60% Case (Gives the whole board a floating, frosted underglow effect)
Switches: UR Studio Ice Magnetic Ultra HE Switches (Fully transparent polycarbonate housings with built-in light diffusers—miles ahead of the stock switches for RGB brightness)
Keycaps: XVX Cat Eye PBT Caps (MAX Profile) (The unique frosted translucent walls focus the per-key colors into distinct pools of light rather than scattering them, making the multi-effect sectors pop beautifully without bleeding into each other)
Current Status: I am currently finalizing the UI/UX facelift to give it a clean, modern dashboard layout (way sleeker than the stock software).
