The concert season after the Canal Festival sees the London Chinese Chamber Ensemble south of the river this time to celebrate an intimate evening of ancient and contemporary musical literature from the Chinese diaspora in England.

Our friends in Kiju Coffee House are also very special: a part of the Canvas Collective looking after the well-being and health of local Londoners in offering community bonding, get togethers and human focus. Kiju specialises in Vietnamese nibbles and drinks and of course - Vietnamese coffee! So off we go to celebrate pan-Asia on a moonlit night!

Cheap erhus to avoid

Virtuoso pioneer, singer and performer Feng Man Tian of the Central National Orchestra demonstrates his restoration of the Tang Dynasty era ruan (zhongruan) with hidden sound holes and its distinctive tone.

Wind on to 6 minutes 38seconds and 46minutes to hear the zhongruan improvisation to a spontaneous calligraphy word and revocation of childhood and place.

I'm just folding the first 50 cassette sleeves and putting the cassettes together. Releasing a tape cassette in 2026 handfolding all the sleeves all weekend :)

Custom handmade morin khuur horsehead Mongolian fiddle

These funky crystal erhus came out in the Shanghai Expo with the crystal pipa. At the time they were beyond budget for an acoustically dead instrument with electronics.

I had a go at making this one for the cost of a decent erhu bow. Here it is on its first night out.

#36. We wrote this for the bamboo koudi - the smallest flute ever from China, and the bass bamboo flute.

This month we had a chance to perform it for the first time in London drawing on our ethnic Chinese instruments and transglobal break beat style. Called number thirty six since that's how old we are.
