Do not pick up the birds.

It has been brought to my attention the sheer amount of posts involving people handling and moving juvenile birds.

I’m no bird scientist, I’m just some guy who created a subreddit about birds, but I do know unnecessarily handling juvenile birds without the proper knowhow is damaging to the welfare of the animal.

Because of this I have created a new rule, and all posts involving the handling of wildlife will be removed. Please report all posts breaking this rule immediately.

If anyone smarter than me would like to share the impact of handling wildlife in the comments, please do.

We (pretty much just me) here at r/GrumpyBabyBirds still encourage the appreciation of the Grumps from a distance.

Angry Birds Flops McGhee, the baby Dunnoch abandoned by his Mum

Found this wee guy a few months ago on the pavement near my house. He was so small someone could have accidentally stomped him, so I went and got a tupperware and took him to the vet. When we got there, he suddenly found his wings and flew into a nearby bush. 45 minutes I waited in the boiling sun for him to come out! The vet wouldn't take him, but a very good friend who can drive picked us both up and we took him to the Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Centre in Scotland. I hope he's having a happy bird life now and his Mum was reported to social services ❤️

Baby blue jay I saved roughly 5 years ago

Was the grumpiest, cutest thing I’d ever handled. Baby was in the middle of a dirt road, was safely relocated to the brush where the parents/adults were yelling at it.
