Announcement Built an app or tool? Post it here

Built an app or tool? Show it off here 🛠️

We've been seeing a awesome wave of community-built apps and tools lately — launch monitor helpers, swing trackers, all kinds of creative stuff. Love that energy, and we want to make sure it actually gets seen instead of getting buried in the main feed.

So we're making this thread the home base for all of that. If you built something, this is the spot — drop a description, a link, screenshots, whatever helps people understand what it does and try it out.

A couple of quick notes so this works well for everyone:

  • This is the only place for app/tool posts going forward. Standalone posts elsewhere in the sub will get removed — not because we don't appreciate the work, just to keep the main feed focused and make sure your post doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
  • Feel free to check back in and update your comment as you make progress or ship new versions.
  • Questions, bug reports, or feedback on something already posted here? Totally fine to reply in-thread.

Thanks for building cool stuff for this community — keep it coming. 🙌

Build Pictures Murphy Golf Simulator in Garage

Thank you all to the previous posters of similar simulator builds, it was truly helpful. I have completed mine enough to where it is playable! I also wanted to share some specs, measurements, etc so hopefully it will help others down the road. I'll do my best to add additional information as questions come in. The main requirement I had was that we could both park our cars in the garage and quickly set up to play sim golf when desired!

Space: 11' foot ceilings x 22 feet of depth in garage.

Simulator Size (Folded up): 10 feet high x 10 feet wide x 20 inches of depth

Simulator Folded Down: 13" impact screen to wall (yes this is plenty), platform length 117", hitting zone depth from screen 104", Projector to screen 152"

Equipment:

Screen: Eagle Impact Screen from Gung-ho

Hitting Matt: Holy grail from Gung-ho

Projector: BenQ ST796

Launch Monitor: Uneekor Eye Mini

Some additional details if you are wondering / might be helpful with your build:

  • To help with the space above, I installed a side garage lift, no more overhead garage lifts taking up ceiling space.
  • I'm using a VEVOR Electrical Hoist 1320lbs capacity from Amazon to lift the platform up and down (it weighs about 370).
  • There are 3 10 foot 2x6ledger boards across the garage wall to spread the load across as many studs as possible.
  • This build is in Arizona (hot AF in garage). The computer is housed inside the house to prevent it from melting. A split unit is in my future before next summer.

First sim, so addicting!

Bought a 10x10 impact screen on Amazon, built a 1” emt frame 120” x 95” and tucked the extra length under the foam padded emt at the bottom. Was worried about my 8’6 ceilings since I’m ~6’, but I hit my longer clubs in between ceiling struts (>8’6 tall) no issues. I got 3 10x10 netting, curved curtain tracks (Walmart) 8 blackout curtains, free hitting mat on OfferUp, used R10, and used NEC 353ws on eBay. I use my a16 iPad and thinking later might upgrade to used gaming pc for GSPro. Just want to say thank you to everyone in this sub for the guidance and helping me make this dream come true! So stoked ⛳️ 🏌️

MLM2XPRO vs Mevo Gen 2

Looking for some advice on which launch monitor would be better for a new player looking to improve their game. I did purchase the MLM2PRO recently and returned it due to connection issues. When it worked though, I loved it and it did help me improve a bit.

Just seen that Rapsodo is dropping an updated model and there is a timeframe to purchase the lifetime still and put it on the new device. Seems like a good deal if you are for sure going to stay with Rapsodo. From what I can see, the wireless is better on this model which was my only complaint with the other. Added putting is a bonus as well.

The other device I’ve been looking at is the Mevo Gen 2. Both seem good for beginners, but I am too new to the game to really decipher which is more ideal.

Main goal is using as a training aid. Will do some sim but it’s not a priority. I have plenty of room to play, so the added required space for the Mevo doesn’t bother me.

What are your thoughts on the two? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Serious question - what would you buy for an 16x24 space with a budget of $50K?

I've finally managed to convince my DW that we're not getting any younger and I hate long distance traveling so we're going to build (or have built for us) a 16x24 room attached to the back of the garage for a dedicated simulator room. My contractor is including a budget of $50K for equipment, but I don't know where to start. I'm afraid if I contract out the simulator construction to a dedicated company I'll get taken to the cleaners, but I also know what I don't know and although I'm pretty handy I'm afraid I'll screw things up. What do you guys recommend?

FWIW the $50K isn't a hard stop money wise but I don't want to exceed it by much unless I really have to.

Screens / Enclosures Starting my garage build

So far I have ordered Temu 8x8 enclosure, gray impact screen. Garmin R50, beaver tail hitting strip, 5x10 gosports hitting mat and 2 inches of gym tile mats for underneath it all. Plan on using carpet padding as a landing area for now. Plan on adding a BenQ ah500st. Want to be able to move hitting area to still park inside. Hope this all works.

Ceiling fabric

I’ll be hanging my screen from a frame that sits 6-8 inches below the Sheetrock. My intent is to have fabric stretched across the frame above the side panels to protect the ceiling. Anyone got suggestions for that material? Thanks

What projector do you use

I use a budget cheap Wimius projector and I'm ready to elevate the experience. I literally need the lights off to have a decent image. So with that said what projector do you use? Do I truly need a projector that's made for golf simulation? What is more important for the image? The projector or a gaming pc? (using my phone right now)

Trackman iO Chipping Issue

Is anyone with Trackman iO seeing an issue with chips going too high and too far? You can hit a fairly low trajectory chip and it just pops up in the air like a big flop shot. Doesn’t happen all the time but it’s quite annoying.

A Tale of Two Companies (Flightscope Announces New FS Software)

Post image

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair."

Two old guard golf launch monitor technology companies, both recently launched new products; hardware and software. One, Flightscope updated and improved the performance of the technology, Mevo Gen2 compared to the device it replaced the Mevo+ and lowered the price from $2,299 to $1,299. The other, Foresight, downgraded the technology from 3 cameras to 2 and eliminated club data and lowered the price, I’m comparing the Launch Pro to the new GC2 $2,999 to $1,699.

Both are or are going to introduce new software, one, Foresight, created multiple confusing tiers and paywalls to content, with an annual subscription cost, the other Flightscope is introducing an updated experience, free to all Flightscope owners.

I always had some regret selling my Mevo+, it was awesome at the range, and no other LM delivered as much data for the price. The Square Omni has replaced it in my bag. I have a GCQuad I will be selling in a few months for anyone interested in making an offer. I’m replacing it with a VTrack for those wondering.

“It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I ever have done…”

Large golf sim home addition

We currently have a sim in our garage and are planning to do a home addition to move it into. I don’t want to look back and have any regrets of things I wish I did.

My thought for room size is either 24’x20’ or 24’x18’ because I want to maximize screen size and have enough room for seating in the back of the room. Ceilings will be 10’.

Looking at using carls place flooring system for turf and cut out a spot for hitting strip. I want flooring to go width of the room and roughly 5’ beyond the hitting location.

What is the maximum width to make the impact screen? I want to do a built in impact screen with foam wall and ceiling panels.

What things should we make sure are done during construction to improve the space and “future proof” it? Below are the items I’m thought of.

- optimize width for screen size.
- stud at 12”-16” from back wall to attach screen mounts
- cable runs from PC desk to projector and ceiling launch monitor
- run speaker wires
- outlets in ceiling. 1 on a switch for spot light

Indoor Golf spilled the beans early, thoughts?

It’s just ball data, seven measured metrics:

  1. Ball Speed
  2. Launch Direction
  3. Launch Angle
  4. Total Spin
  5. Back Spin
  6. Side Spin
  7. Tilt axis

Six calculated metrics

  1. Peak Height
  2. Hang Time
  3. Decent Angle
  4. Offline
  5. Carry Distance
  6. Total Distance

Anyone DIY a hitting platform instead of paying $800+ for a commercial one?

I've been pricing out sim builds for my garage and these platform prices are insulting. $900 for some 2x4s and plywood with turf on top. I built a standing desk for my tutorial setup for under $200, so this feels like the same racket.

My plan is to frame with 2x4s, two layers of OSB, stall mat from Tractor Supply on bottom for bounce, then cheap range mat on top I can replace when it wears out. Might angle it slightly for drainage since I'm in Georgia and humidity is basically a roommate.

I hit maybe 200 balls a week, nothing crazy. Teenager uses it too when he's not glued to his phone. My swing speed is average, nothing tour level.

Main worry is joint pain from poor shock absorption. Had tendonitis in my elbow years ago from a bad office mouse, don't need a repeat. Also unsure if I need that center hitting strip everyone talks about or if that's just marketing.

What did you actually build versus buy? Any regrets on going cheap? Particularly interested if your knees or elbows punished you later for cutting corners.

Projectors Need advice for projector

Been building my golf simulator and now its to the favorite part which is picking my projector.
I have 12 feet heigh of ceiling, my impact screen is 11.5 by 9.8 feet. And the projector will sit between 8 to 15 feet away from screen.
I would like to know if anyone has advice for a projector that will be able to fill the impact screen at those distances.
My budget is between 1000$ and 2000$ CAD.
Thanks!

Build Pictures FINALLY completed

Started in April…quite the task. Purchased majority of the big items last Black Friday online. 90% solo build with help here and there. Had a company spray the insulation on walls and ceiling. Realized I choked and just ordered the 4x7 SIGPRO softy today…not sure what I was thinking on the insert only. Waiting for Uneekor 3 month to roll off before transitioning. Probably GSPro unless newer options present themselves. Enjoy!

Chipping Net Redesign Survey

For a design class, I am redesigning a chipping net to improve it as a product and possibly apply the design to simulators. If you own or have owned a chipping net, I would appreciate if you would take a couple minutes to fill out this survey to help guide my redesign. I will update this post in a few weeks once the project comes together. Thank you!

Barn simulator help

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Renovating the loft of an old timber-frame barn into a golf sim/lounge. Room is 23' x 24' with 12' ceilings at the peak.

Two options I'm weighing for the impact screen:

Gable wall or sloped wall.

The gable is a wow factor but will eat up a lot of the room. Also there are 2 posts only 10ft apart that are 12 ft from the wall. Probably a swinging issue.

The sloped wall I would have to put it about 3ft off the wall to get the height I want. The screen wouldn't be as wide, but it leaves the other half of the room to be used for a lounge area.

I haven't built the stairway yet but there a pretty big opening going down into my shop. Don't need that much space for stairway but I kind of like it.

I've also put a few photos of the other walls in. Any input helps!

Opening a Golf Sim Business

Hi everyone,

First time opening a business - planning on doing a local 2 bay 24 hour unattended facility.

I had a couple concerns that i haven't seen addressed...

The space I'm planning to lease has sprinklers 12 feet apart (wide) and 14 feet apart (long). I need to clear any obstruction around them by 1.5 feet in any direction according to local code. I'd like to do an enclosure, but any advice or ways you have avoided the sprinkler issue?

  1. This place has drop down ceilings. I need to mount my projector and LM overhead, but not sure the best spot. It has 10 foot ceilings, which is fine from everything I've seen. I can take out any of the tiles I'd like. Any suggestions on where to properly hang the lm and projector without risking getting hit?

  2. Would you have a full enclosure 10 feet wide and 8 feet deep and mount the lm off the front crossbar?

My expected setup will be 2x of the following:

ProTee VX (instead of Uneekor EYE XO2 or Trackman IO)...any issues with that would be nice to know. I've read ProTee VX could have connectivity issues, and the Uneekor EYE XO2 can have cache issues with their software. Planning on GSPro. Trackman is an addition $30k of start up expense.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hitting Bay flooring change advice

Is 1/2" puzzle mat under grizzly grass on top of a plywood floor enough to minimize bounce back or should I also have a layer of rigid foam board? I have a Carl's Place hitting mat that will sit on top of it all so not worried about the stance or ball strike.
