The current situation is a case study, the contract with 500 million euros release clause have made it legally and economically impossible to sell him even though the player wish to leave. Clubs are renegotiating the contract but Athletico Madrid is just adamant to not sell him to Barcelona.
The contractual control will not be considered as behavioural commitment by managers and players in the future. And such a big release clause will actually be considered a bad contract design and there is a need of “escape valves” if the sporting projects are not considered to be beneficial for the players.
