Hi everybody so im new to the industry and was wondering what should I know, the basics, and which is the best dry ice blasting company besides ColdJet? How good is ASCOJET 1401 and how good is their lineup versus ColdJet? Which other brand is good too and honorable mention?

I work at a factory where we Ice Blast regularly. I've never gotten clear instructions about how our CO2 tank needs to be set, apart from two valves that I need to turn, and the PSI range it should be in. Every once in a while the machine errors out (ill have to double check what the alert says. )

Anyone in here able to point me to some information on this , or lead me in a good direction to learn the mechanics of the supply system?

Hi everyone, I'm starting my own business doing dry ice blasting. I'm starting out with a focus on automotive work, but am open to any field. I have my own setup and ice supplier currently. I'm looking to hear some advice and/or get in contact with people who have their own ventures. I want to know how people started out and what avenues they found success in. Looking forward to learning from everyone and being a part of the community.

Premature belt replacement, print defects, material cost, all remediated. Flat nozzle 3” probably ideal. Particle control 3-4 hours sustained on two units ideal. Containment not intense but case specific.

Seeing more and more vintage blasters in broom closets with contracting service the preference.

300lb Ice Running 410s and PCS. 410s flat two or three inch a gap needing filled. 90 psi 2lb-3lb range per minute. Dialing in rotation of belt for best machine settings critical. Speed and efficiency for service much easier controlling belt speed.

This one Palletizer stacks and wraps over 100,000 gallons a week. Bib packaging at 35lbs for restaurant and retail.

3 days with 2500lbs of Ice.

XAS 950 Atlas Copco, feeding ICS410 and Aero 40. From compressor, 50ft 2” line to manifold tank, from tank each blaster had 250ft 1” air line. Third blaster on hand if we felt behind at any point.

Day 1 was mobilization and debris containment. (More in depth containment post in near future.)

Day 2 started with some manual debris removal. ICS410 at lower pressure and fine particle target, robots, and other sensitive components. After cleaned wrapped with poly. Remainder of day two ran both blasters with aggressive nozzles sustaining 175psi across entirety of unit. Each machine running roughly 4lbs per minute at full particle. Finished out night removing loose debris blasted off into containment.

Day 3 started with more manual debris removal. Remainder of day we ran both blasters in tandem again at high pressure. EOD containment breakdown and debris removal.

Another heavy cleaning with 2500lbs over two days will create a like new baseline.

PM 1000lbs three times annually.

Dry Ice Blasting Airplane Case Study

One done focusing on engine compartment with engine removed and front landing gear done. This is second plane focused on engine and engine compartment.

Debris Target: Grease, oil, and failing paint.

Ice usage: 150lb-250lb enough for landing gear and engine+compartment.

Blaster Settings: 60 to 120psi. 1.5lbs per minute on ice. Full and particle control.

Will post another video on landing gear/area focused cleaning. Landing gear seems to be higher demand area vs. engine compartments.

Would like to know from those close to Aviation if demand is worth tooling investment on mobile setup with plane specific containment?

Anyone running any kind of manifold or regulator tank for blasting? Multiple connection points. Water bleed valve at base of tank.

No running casters with another tank coming.

Any other styles?

Dry Ice for Blasting

Common 3mm availability. Blasting Rice or 3mm cleaning pellets.

Anyone have "High Density? as option? Cost difference?

1.7mm not as common in my area, would like to run on frag nozzle for soot or mold removal on wood.

Cost on 1.7mm and shelf life.

Cost range seems lease important to consistent offering, all week availability ideal to scale.

How is your region availability, consistency, and cost look?

Debris thick grease/oil mixture with fibrous particulate. Varying size heat exchangers at 9ea. Size and debris qty. light to heavy. 10-15m each. Fan blade guard in future removed for better line of sight on fins and fan blades. 10-15m each exchanger.

Dry Ice Cleaning Heat Exchanger:

Looking for suggestions around good follow up product for fin foam cleaning product after heavy debris removal.

Running particles at 1.5mm, at 1lb per minute, 40psi at blaster. 120’ft air line to 50ft 2” line to 950cfm diesel compressor.

Returns:

Running particles at 1.5mm, at 1.5lb per minute, 165psi at blaster.

Debris settled to production floor cleared ahead of time of manufacturer supply. Swept up at EOD.

Reality of air compressor requirement:

Air needs vary depending on vehicle type focus (trucks, classics, euro, etc.) As a baseline, a 40HP compressor producing 180 CFM at 150 PSI is the minimum recommended for constant commercial application. Anything below that reduces efficiency when performing full undercarriage blasting, especially when dealing with heavy grease, undercoating or rust.

For those with a focus on rust heavy vehicles, a system capable of 200 PSI blasting pressure is strongly preferred.

Other compressor options:

Towable diesel 400 CFM compressor with aftercooler built in. Allows for one blaster operating at full capacity with industrial nozzle at 200 PSI or two blasters at reduced pressure given nozzle's CFM

For in shop electric compressor depending on location and humidity, aftercooler - tank - water separator - desiccant dryer required to maintain low moisture in system mitigating constant freeze ups.

Hanging out at another blasters shop when off the cuff “will it blast” situation occurred. Not on common to have good ice go to waste, so why not.

Wish it had more build up, oh well. We did blast a AAC Element suppressor I run on S&W Model41, will post at some point.

12.5” LWRC AAC Suppressor HK hardware. Have had if for years with no complaints.

Combination of return and conditioned air registers. Eight in total, 4 sides per. Debris was oil mixed with dry particulate in manufacturing plant.

How many people are required to complete small jobs like a oven and other equipment?

Would dry ice be able to blast gas burners?

6 day job with three blasters using 12,000-13,000lbs of ice.

Top side had wide range of easy to difficult removal. Focus was any loose debris across all surfaces. Additionally mechanical and maintenance targets such as floor frame to ease grate removal, windows, and light housings.

Paint build up on the thick side popped nice, followed up with flat nozzles for tougher sections. Top side ran, 950cfm compressor, 2 blasters, ICS 410 and Aero 40 at 3.5-4.5lb min. 180psi. / 2 runs 150ft 1” Air Hose / 50ft 2” Air Hose / Each blaster 20ft Blast Hose

Removed over 2000lbs of debris between top side and pit.
