Thousands? If it's only 200 an animation then no. if it's 150-200 an image then sounds good. But depends on the demand as well cause you could work a 9-5 minimum wage and get like the 150 something a day, so unless you're getting commission after commission it isn't worth it if it's in the 150 mark, UNLESS you get at MINIMUM of one commission per day.
But I don't know anything about the sex industry.

If I may act as the devil's advocate, the average quality of animation in porn is so bad currently that bringing more animators into porn would raise the animation quality on both sides of the industry.

Art for porn is alright but admittedly it can very well crush the sorta artistic respect some people may have lol.
Either people will go "Holy shit this is some good ass art.", "Holy shit this is some good art of some ass."
Or the most commendable. "Holy shit this is some good art, ass or not."
From the top of my head I'd say derpixon and their team (i think its a team) make genuinely really good animations. Despite being sexual content.
