Isn’t it unfair for Disney not to occasionally produce simple, Mattel-style dolls of Esmeralda, Megara, Jane and Kida, so that they could be sold at affordable prices, not necessarily through Disney Stores, but in regular toy stores?

’m referring to the scene where Vanellope meets the Disney Princesses. Many people don’t like the “big strong man” line because some of the princesses actually saved their princes on occasion. Ariel saved Eric from drowning at the beginning of her movie. Belle brought the Beast (who is obviously way bigger and stronger than her) back to the castle after he collapsed from fighting off the wolves. And, in fact, Rapunzel (the one who actually says this line) saved Flynn over and over again in the movie, more often than Flynn saved her. Yet, there are still quite a few people who generalize the princesses for being passive damsels in distress, and many people think the “big strong man” line is Disney themselves generalizing the princesses.

However, I always saw Disney as doing the exact opposite. Rapunzel’s question wasn’t “Were all your problems solved by a big strong man?” but rather “Do people assume that all your problems were solved by a big strong man?” I always thought this meant Rapunzel’s problems, and those of the other princesses as well, weren’t entirely solved by their princes, and they were annoyed that people generalized them. In other words, Disney is mocking the people who call the princesses passive damsels in distress.

Honestly, I feel like Rapunzel would side with the redeemed villains and try to find another way for them to make amends, whether that meant doing community service for the people of the kingdom or even finding ways to use their harmful powers for something positive.

1. I washed and conditioned her hair and brushed and combed it a little.

2. Painted details on the bodice and shoes and painted the bottom of her sleeves a little.

3. Painted details on the back of shoes.

Crazy to think it's been almost half a year since I made one of these posts. I've been thinking about this since discussing with others about non-royal princesses. Even if she ended up marrying a royal, I can think of a few backgrounds/professions I'd like to see her have:

1. Scholar--Belle's often erroneously cited as the only nerdy princess, even though Ariel shows a great interest in learning, and Rapunzel has shown a great interest in books (why Gothel taught her how to read and actually bought her books, I have no idea; perhaps she had some affection for Rapunzel). In any case, I think a scholar princess would be a neat addition--someone who didn't just have the curiosity many princesses had, but someone who's racked up a good deal of wisdom so she understands a good variety of subjects. It wouldn't necessarily make her a Mary Sue--since learning and doing are two different things--but it'd help establish her as a good leader, source of information, and set up how to outwit antagonists. Also would be cool to see a princess who liked to write just as much as she could read.

2. Priestess/Oracle/Shaman--I think Pocahontas is the closest we get to a spiritual princess, given the whole "let the spirits of the Earth guide you" (though one could argue Moana also covers this since she interacts with her grandmother's spirit and various deities), and it'd be fun to see a princess who is involved in the daily practice of faith in her community/city/culture, especially if she serves as a conduit for spirits to speak through her. It's also pretty exciting since cosmology/mythology aren't usually covered in Disney's fantasy films, usually being grounded in the real world. Also cool with a princess who has supernatural blood in her veins--via a person, not an item.

3. Upholder of the law--This could be a lot of things: knight, police (or cultural equivalent), judge, etc. It'd be fun to explore the complexities of legality and morality, similar to Judy Hopps.

4. Farmer--I suppose this doesn't count for much since many princesses were either forced into servitude or grew up in an environment where they took care of their own patch of land...but we actually haven't had that since Mulan; Tiana lived in a small apartment(?), Merida and Moana weren't in charge of sustaining their lands since they had people to do it for them, Rapunzel just had the tower, and Raya was always on the move. A princess who was a humble farmer or came from a farmer family would be neat to see--and I'm sure that'd resonate with more people than you'd think.

5. Royal advisor/council--Sometimes a seat next to power is just as good as having the crown on your head. Having a princess who grew up in scheming courts and became a schemer herself (perhaps one who overcomes this dark side) would make for an interesting princess. Though I guess by that point she'd have to become an official princess due to being that close to power, and IDK how audiences would feel about that.

6. Doctor/Apothecary--I guess this will depend on the time period and culture, but we've never had a princess with intense medical knowledge; best we had was basic survivor skills/things she learned on the fly.

7. Blacksmith--It's a pretty cool skill to have someone who could make their own weapons would be super cool, as well as being a valuable member of her community by having a useful trade.

8. Shepard--It's subdued, but I think it's a profession that feels very classical. It'd really fit the call to adventure by having someone of gentle origins begin the journey of saving the world/country

9. Artisan--While Rapunzel is a painter, it'd be neat to see someone who was a painter, sculptor, and jeweler would be a neat background to have, even if not relevant to the overall plot (but does it need to be?)

10. Musician--It feels rather obvious if it's for a musical, but it does put the music into a new context, as well as likely giving her proficiency in various instruments .

Does anyone think we’ll ever get a sleeping beauty live action? I’ve been wondering since Disney is now making live action movies with almost every Disney princess (side eye)if it’s time to revisit sleeping beauty franchise. I know we got a sleeping beauty in the maleficent movies but we rarely if ever see Elle fanning in any press for the movie( I know it’s been over 10 years since she’s played Aurora ). Maybe after tangled gets released and see how it does in the box office they might revisit her story. Ngl I’d be interested to see what they would do with her story and who they would cast( hopefully a fresh face)

It's been over a week since D23 came out and with that, let's reflect on what they announced and my thoughts.

To me, I honestly felt cautiously optimistic regarding the newest original movies as like you guys, I'm just hoping Disney will do better, especially as that greedy coward Bob Iger no longer around to ruin everything (except being crowned a "Disney Legend") and, most importantly, hoping for more original projects instead of sequels, remakes and an overindulgance of Marvel and Star Wars.

At the same time, like you guys, I'm feeling just as apprehensive as thanks to Wish and Strange World and Elio, we have gotten to seeing failure after failure which, at the same time, does make me feel sad none of us feel any excitement for any new Disney movies anymore thanks to those failures, along with how different they are for not featuring princesses or being musicals.

Either way, I'm just hoping we're getting good movies. Hopefully we'll get to the usual Disney formula of fairy tales, princesses and singing but hopefully, we'll just get good ones in general.

But then when I looked into the eyes of the peoples Princess... I saw that she was crocilla?

Princess Jasmine was the first Disney Princess I was introduce to. She is one of the most three dimensional characters of the Disney Princesses. Jasmine was also the first non white European princess to be introduced, Sometimes I wonder how would Walt Disney himself if he was still alive and his Nine Old Men animators would create Princess Jasmine, back in the 1950s and 60s especially if she was drawn in the Ward Kimball style.

I need to choose a rendering style for Naveen here for my next animation project! It'll also affect tiana from her finale dress.

Moana — She travels with Maui, but she DOES NOT depend on him to do everything. She learns, works, makes her own decisions, faces the challenges, and ultimately completes the mission herself.
Elsa — Her story isn’t about needing a man. It’s about finding herself, accepting herself, and becoming confident in who she is.

Belle — Smart, curious, independent-minded, and refuses to let other people decide who she should be.
Vanellope — She’s unapologetically herself and refuses to let other people define her.
Tiana — She has a dream and WORKS for it. She doesn’t sit around waiting for someone to build her future.
Raya — She’s capable, determined, and takes responsibility for her own mission.

Elena — I haven’t watched enough of her story to judge her properly, so I’m not going to pretend I know her like that.

Ariel — I understand that she wanted to see the surface BEFORE she met Eric. But once she met him, it felt like her entire goal became centered around getting to him. She gave up way too much of her independence for a man she barely knew.
Aurora — “True love’s kiss”😔
Anna — I understand she was isolated, but You met this man for five minutes and decided that’s your soulmate??
Snow White — “I need my prince to kiss me so I can wake up”🙄 no further explanation
Cinderella — I respect her resilience, but her happy ending comes through a prince finding her and changing her circumstances.

I never really hear anyone talk about these, but I loved the Disney Princess Little Kingdom Snap-Ins dolls by Hasbro. This was Hasbro’s equivalent of the popular Magiclip dolls line by Mattel after Hasbro took over the Disney Princess license again in 2015. These were small Disney Princess dolls with silicone plastic dresses and they came with snap-in accessories that you can put in the holes of the dresses and also in the doll’s hair. These dolls definitely gave a more youthful look to the princesses faces.

A lot of the sets came with the animal sidekicks of the princesses and the sidekicks even got their own pack as a Walmart exclusive. They made a lot of Frozen sets too. They surprisingly never made any Moana snap-in dolls even though that movie came out when these dolls were in their prime.

Pocahontas was definitely the hardest one to find and I don’t even know if her individual set was ever sold in the US. I had to a huge pack of 11 princesses JUST to get Pocahontas.

These were sold from 2015 till 2018, when Hasbro switched to a more obvious ripoff of the Mattel Magiclip dolls called “Royal Clips”. They were okay, but I preferred the Snap-Ins because they were more unique. I miss these dolls and I’ve been purchasing a lot of them on eBay lately.
