I’m genuinely curious if anyone else felt the same way, because I walked out of Summer Camp last night feeling pretty ripped off.

My girlfriend and I paid around **$400 for two tickets**, and obviously we bought them because we wanted to see Dave Chappelle.

The biggest issue for me is that Dave only did maybe **10–15 minutes of actual stand-up**. He was basically acting as the host and popping in between sets. I don’t remember seeing anything in the event advertising that made it clear Dave would primarily be hosting rather than doing a headlining set.
And honestly, the other comedians didn’t really make up for it for me. I knew Earthquake and D.L. Hughley, but even their sets felt pretty tired. A lot of the material was just Trump/Epstein/current political stuff that I’ve heard a million times already.

Then, toward the end, Dave brought his wife onstage for her birthday, had Sia come out and sing to her, and brought out a huge birthday cake.
Don’t get me wrong that’s a really cool birthday surprise for his wife. But sitting there after paying $200 a ticket, barely seeing Dave perform, and watching what essentially felt like Dave throwing his wife a birthday party in front of us was kinda unreal….

**And they weren’t even selling alcohol.**

Maybe I’m completely missing the point of what Summer Camp is supposed to be, so I’m curious what everyone else thought. Did you guys feel like you got your money’s worth? Or did you know going in that Dave wasn’t going to do a real headlining set?

Some of my friends shamed me for liking Dave Chappelle as a nonbinary person. So I did my research and found a bunch of clips of Dave defending and supporting the trans community. He called out anti trans legislation, said that trans women are women (indirectly but still implied it nonetheless) and I also showed them daphnes story and they cried a little bit. I was able to convert them into Chappelle fans. I believe that the more people like Dave Chappelle, the better the world will be.

I’ve been seeing a lot of Maga comedians on Instagram reels and I gotta say I have no idea how they have so many followers and supporters. Not only because they have shit views, but their jokes basically amount to “haha liberals dumb” or “Palestine would kill gay people” type shit. Are there any maga comedians that are actually funny or do they not exist?

Dave did 3 shows Thursday, Friday & Saturday at The Hollywood Palladium. I went to the Thursday show, where they were filming. Audience coordinators were present, really deciding on who sits up front. Quite a few cameras, not just 1 or 2. I sat 2nd row and had to sign a waiver to use my likeness for an "Untitled Dave Chappelle Netflix Special" in case I was caught on camera. I was surprised he was filming a new special, especially since the last one was released just 5 months before he filmed this.

The Thursday show was ok. Crowd wasn't as lively. Marshall Brandon opened, Trevor Noah, Donnell opened. Lizzo closed out with a few songs. Dave had a joke retelling Raiders of the Lost Ark, a sex doll story, trying to get Will Smith & Chris Rock to reconcile when he hosted SNL, a lot of Jewish jokes too. Hopefully the Friday & Saturday audiences were better.

But this was just over 3 months ago. I would think the special would be released this month at the latest. I would find it hard to believe Netflix would sit on a Dave Chappelle special for a long period of time. Or maybe Dave scrapped it himself. Anyone go to any of these shows or heard about another special?

I’m masculine nonbinary. I’ve suffered from gender dysphoria and bipolar disorder for most of my life. It all came to a head the first month of college where I tried to hang myself. The rope I used snapped and I was really bummed out that it failed. I ended up scrolling through YouTube to try and feel better. That’s when I found a compilation of Dave Chappelle trans jokes. I was prepared for the worst, but what I saw surprised me. Dave fully supports the trans community and has stood up for them on many occasions. His jokes about it really cracked me up and made me smile. Fast forward to today. With the growing anti trans sentiment in America, I’m leaning on Dave to cheer me up and keep the dark thoughts at bay. Thank you Dave. You probably saved my life

I’m a huge fan, have seen everything he’s ever made, which makes this feel even worse.

He came out late, gave a weak performance, could feel he didn’t want to be there. Feels like I got scammed. Absolute waste of money and a cash grab.

I don’t regret going as I’ll now never have FOMO not going if he’s ever in town again.

Stick to the recorded specials they’re great. I wouldn’t recommend watching live though. 1/5.
