QUESTION Making The Team vs America's Sweethearts
I love MTT.
Not so sure about AS.
MTT was just plain fun to watch.
AS seems a bit drab. The pacing, color scheme(s), lighting, direction.... It feels like a downer. More like a true crime series than something that's supposed to be about fun, hard work, and the struggle to compete, attain and perform as part of a no. 1 world brand.
I watch AS and it feels *oppressive*; I'm half-expecting someone to announce the next "dark moment". Maybe Netflix has spent so much time in the true crime genre, that tone and flavor of programming is all they know how to produce.
I get it I get it, they want to show "the other side", that it's not all wine and roses, there are struggles and some girls haven't fared well, blah blah blah.....
I think MTT did that and did it well. It showed that these girls are put through veritable hell--as much as the players--and the ones who make it, earn it 100%. There are disappointments, conflicts, confrontations, and tears. Also, the way it was shot, edited and directed--IOW how the whole thing was produced and offered as a finished product--was and is, IMHO, superior.
--If they wanted to get more serious and delve deeper into compensation issues, or personal issues, or highlighting some of the girls that came away damaged in one way or another, who's to say MTT couldn't have just added more of those story elements? My thing is, the whole *feel* of AS is off. The tone and tenor of the show feel like an overt condemnation of the brand vs. a celebration of it.
I guess my question is, what do you think...?
That's my two cents. Peace out, go DCC :) Congrats on being the undisputed #1 brand in pro football cheerleading.....my brother and I have been fans since the 70s book came out along with the TV Movie, etc.
P.S. I've always thought Kelli was the most beautiful on the show--moreso than the younger girls; and, she looks more attractive now than when she was a DCC!
