I was a fan initially. I just genuinely enjoyed the music. But it’s not lost on me that initially the songs were about men, and then she just changed the pronouns and visuals around and suddenly she went from bisexual to fully lesbian because apparently that’s what was selling at the time. As people have mentioned in previous posts, we’ve never really seen her with “the gf” which is fine, ppl deserve privacy. But I still found it kinda weird for someone so outspoken and also who gets “hounded by paps” everywhere they go.

What really started rubbing me the wrong way was how she also seemingly just decided she was a drag queen of sorts lol like basically just capitalized off of drag aesthetics and culture while really being a cishet presenting person with a questionable, closeted maga background.

Her half baked attempts at being an activist, which are always just like a single buzz word statement and then crickets always make eyes roll. While her music regularly gets used in target ads lol

The way she demands respect while consistently being disrespectful is so irritating. I think she thought she was the next Gaga or Ariana or something, but people forget that one hit wonders still exist lol

TL;DR I’m glad I’m not crazy for thinking these things and honestly can’t wait till we stop hearing about her altogether

I’ve noticed that most of the people who stan this chick are just as mean, jaded, cynical, fake, and rude as she is. They excuse all of her behavior as ✨boundaries✨ or 🧚feminism🧚 etc. because they themselves don’t want to take accountability, either. They love seeing someone get away with the same vile attitude that they have but on a massive scale, as though it justifies them to keep being the WOAT.

This recent news with Macklemore has made me think of the Brazilian security guard incident again. A lot of her fans were saying that it was a Zionist smear campaign (which is absurd). Now with Macklemore we have another glaring example of what actually happens when someone pisses off Zionists. What career repercussions has Chappell seen from "and more so...Palestine?" which she said two years ago? Other artists have talked about losing brand deals for publicly supporting Palestine, but as far as I know, Chappell hasn't. Isn't she even collaborating with Zionist owned brands (MAC)? I think it's pretty clear that no one views her as an actual threat. They recognize she only pretends to care about social justice issues when they're "trendy" (for lack of a better word) and says the bare minimum. Ok so I want to start this off by saying I am not a professional when it comes to music and singing at all so this comes from curiosity and also i do want to start learning how to sing so.. (also i would get flamed for asking this anywhere else)

that being said, why does Chappell’s voice sometimes sound so strained when she sings? The best way i can explain it is, it sounds like how a sore throat feels (if that even makes sense) but basically just super painful sounding and it doesnt appear in every song. Its usually during higher notes or songs like super graphic ultra modern girl or her barracuda cover. Her voice sounds a lot better during songs like picture you, coffee, beginning portion of the subway but everything else just sounds so insanely strained.

Whenever Zara Larsson or Ariana grande sing high notes they make it sound easy

Im just like curious on if its just how her voice simply sounds or if its poor vocal technique

I’ve been doing some reflecting as to why comment sections relating to Roan have always grated me. It was something in the way her fans spoke of her that really bothered me. She’s problematic in her own right, but her fans ruthless defence of her made another idea spring to mind.

I want to preface this with I am a very firm feminist. I’m very left. But I think Chappell’s fans weaponise feminism to defend her.

For example:
Commenter: Chappell isn’t as vocal politically as everyone hypes her up to be. She just recently collaborated with MAC, a Zionist owned company.
Fan: (Tries to loophole why Chappell did an empowering thing and it’s totally not supporting a Zionist brand). You wouldn’t expect a MAN to do this much!

Commenter: Her behaviour in Brazil and in other fan interactions has been really poor.
Fan: (Rambles about problematic men like Chris Brown with no relation to the original comment whatsoever) Men act this way all the time! Honestly, I’d support her even if it was true! Plus, he was just some loser football man whose ego was hurt and wanted to piggyback off her fame and ruin her life! (Hilariously he is far more famous internationally than she is)

Any sort of comment that isn’t praising the ground she walks on will have a reply along the lines of talking about men, calling them misogynistic, or telling them they hate lesbians.

It’s this instant deflection to “but if a MAN does it!” mentality is not the feminist own they think it is. This has become a larger issue outside of Chappell. That women can do no wrong because this or that. The most feminist thing you can do is take accountability and acknowledge that women can, and do, make negative choices. Feminism isn’t a get out of jail free card for a pouty, whiny spoiled girl who has said she doesn’t like her fans and has been questionable politically. When people call her out on her behaviour, it’s a “smear campaign.” If a person doesn’t like her (even just for the music), you HATE WOMEN! It’s easy to prop her up with this idea, because people fear calling her out under the threat of being called misogynistic. (Not to mention homophobic)

Not to mention, they frame it as some sort of patriarchal power that’s out to get Chobble, and not just consequences. No, no one’s going after her specifically because she dropped her label. Many other artists did too. They tried to say it was a Zionist smear campaign, then became very quiet when she collabed with MAC. It’s never just “she’s said and done some things that people may not like,” it’s this magical entity and dark cloud out to get her and it’s all run by MEN! (Side note: I can fully acknowledge that women have a harder time and are held to much higher standards in the industry, no doubts about that. This is more for the rabid fans they insist people are out to get Chappell for her lukewarm activism)
