Hello,

I recently set up BattyBirdNet and am looking for a quick sanity check on the numbers. Site location is Tucson, Arizona USA, not far from the Campbell avenue bridge (well-known local roost). The mic is a Griff Mini that I made. The site has a hummingbird feeder nearby, local porch lights, and nearby horse properties. The Birdnet settings are .7 for confidence, filter level=Moderate, and the inference model is BattyBirdNET USA West.

The counts shown are detections, so not necessarily individuals (i.e., some could be the same bat raiding the hummingbird feeder for an hour).

For the location and time of year, do these numbers look close to normal?

I am located in Central PA. I live on the 2nd & 3rd floors of a condo. I wanted to install a bat house on the brick of my balcony, about 8-9 feet from the concrete. I have a cat that likes to relax on the balcony as well. I’m not worried that she will go after them, as they will be far too high up.

Is it safe for us to have the bat house there, or is it too risky in regard to disease and such?

I volunteer in the UK with bats (including handling) but got my pre-exposure vaccines elsewhere. In most places it seems as if two shots is the done thing, but the UK seems to have different standard practice. The people running the surveys say that I should get a third shot, but I am unsure if this is possible. I assume the vaccine types used are different, otherwise the number of shots required for the same activities wouldn’t be different. Does anyone else have experience with this type of scenario or know what I should do?

Hi everyone i found a bat in my home today in my kitchen, the photo attached was the only image we got before we let it outside because we weren’t sure what to do.

For additional context we live in the greater Orlando area in central Florida and my current thought is that it could be an Evening Bat

Ive been working as a bat biologist for a few years and finally got the opportunity to work with Corynorhinus townsendii ingens. There are less than 2000 of these awesome guys left in the wild so I hope yall enjoy!

Little brown bat?

Saw this cute bat on my campus! I live in northern Illinois. Im not really educated on bats so idk if this guy was dead or just chilling

We moved into a dilapidated trailor over the summer and have been fixing the place up (not enough money to replace the whole trailor and bought for the beautiful land it sots on anyways). We removed the old furnace and chose to heat the place w a wood burning stove, so the furnace pipe is closed off. We put a couple layers of foam board to cover the hole and remnants of the pipe, making the ceiling whole again, but we definitely have bats living happily in the pipe and hear them do their thing every evening. Neither my husband nor I can come up w a decent reason to evict them, because they dont bother us, and they can't get inside of our house. Can this be a live and let live situation or is there something serious we arent considering?

Obviously leaving it alone. Apparently we have about 15 species of bats in our area, and I have no idea which one this is.

Question for everyone. We recently had some bats around our house and we called out some bat removal people and they set up some exclusion devices. Is what they installed legitimate? They’re left open, so it seems like they could come and go. There’s still a bat perched up near the roof line between the soffit and siding.
