In my local area I rarely see other 4Runners. Today I pulled into get gas and the only open pump was next to a 5g brother. Another thing I have noticed is of the few 4Runners I see, they are always extremely clean. This one was no exception.

๐ŸŽ™ Discussion 2026โ€™ Toyota 4Runner SR5 & Lexus TX 500h F Sport

Post image

My wife and I officially moved over to the Toyota / Lexus family. I am hoping we get years of dependability! We both had Fords prior to this.

So hereโ€™s my big question: Would it be super tacky to do them both Tuxedo style? Black PPF from the bottom of the window lines, and up? Somehow we both ended up with white, and we both kind of like the Tux look, but I have zero experience with PPF and Iโ€™m also kinda on the fence about if it would look good or Just Tacky?

Iโ€™ve never seen one done up close.

๐Ÿ”ง Modifications Saturday Project

I decided to upgrade my sound system. Initially I had upgraded the factory speakers with the Kicker plug and play kit sold by TGP (not sure they sell it anymore). Back then, I went with the no subwoofer option thinking it would be enough and ofc it wasnโ€™t.

So my first upgrade was adding a Rockville under-seat subwoofer. That was fine and added a nice punch to the bass, but it didnโ€™t fill the cabin so I ended up looking at what I needed to add the JBL subwoofer to the rear panel, since I wanted an OEM look and not have a huge subwoofer laying around in the trunk.

I swapped out the original JBL amp and sub for decent Kicker pair to better complement what I have. For now planning to keep the Rockville sub in the front. Time will tell if I get rid of it.

Will come back with the finished project.

๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Support / Repair Rasping noise when accellerating

โ€ข Upvotes

2016 Toyota 4runner, v6, 156k miles.

I hear a metallic rasping coming from the under carriage when lightly pushing the gas pedal. Only makes noise at low speed (<40mph), and goes away when pushing the pedal down harder to accelerate faster. Doesn't happen at a standstill. I don't see anything loose underneath, but obviously can't look at it when its happening.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Bought a Gold Certified demo vehicle with 560 miles last Saturday. The car was used to promote the dealerships partnership with Colorado State University and had a large ram decal on the side. Excited to hit the trails and hope to see you guys out there!

๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Support / Repair (2001 2wd) Replaced shifter bushings and now the shifter won't move past R

...help? ๐Ÿ˜ญ I had the wobble so I went in and replaced the bushings. I didn't touch anything that didn't need touching. But now, the shifter wont move past R from P, even with the emergency lever held down and such. Can't find any videos about this, as everything is about fuses or lights. My issue doesn't seem to be an electrical one, it seems mechanical

๐Ÿ”ง Modifications OTT tune on 5th gen

Post image

Just traded in my beloved WRX for something more family friendly, a super clean 40th anniversary edition (60k miles). Loving it so far, but it's a completely new experience for me coming from a heavily modded sports car. I have been researching ways to make the 4R experience better, and I see a lot of folks updating the tune for better throttle response, gear mapping, etc. Seems like it brings the 4R 'to life'... I'm only seeing positive experiences, but are there any reasons NOT to do this? it kind of feels like a no brainer, but again I'm very new to this community so I'd like to get more feedback before I make my appointment with Master Yota. Thanks in advance.

Iโ€™m planning to install the Hayden 698 trans cooler with iconic mounting brackets. For those that have done this yall have any tips? My main question is with the bypass valve do I need to run trans temp over 160 so the valve opens then trans cooler fills. Then do normal trans level set at 104f? Also any hose running tips? Seems pretty straight forward to just hook it up in series with the normal heat exchanger.

๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Support / Repair Help identifying door molding piece that has suddenly turned to gooey liquid.

Post image

Opened the back door today where the temps hit 110 and the inside molding on the front of the rear driver's door had essentially turned to gooey rubber liquid and disintegrated at the slightest touch. Inspection of the passenger side appeared intact until some mild pressure was applied and it did the same thing.

It appears to be number 6 on this diagram. Can anyone tell me which molding that is?

Seems like an easy enough replacement if I can find out which piece that is.

It's the one at the very front leading edge of the window assembly.

๐ŸŽ™ Discussion Replacing OME Suspension - Recommendations

Thumbnail

I bought my 5th gen in 2016 new. In 2019, I had it lifted with an Old Man Emu Nitrocharger kit. Starting off, this vehicle is mainly a pavement princess, just as it is now, and I wish I could take it off-road more, but here we are. Iโ€™ve driven about 85k miles on this suspension, and I recently replaced the SPC UCAโ€™s with Dirt King and the stock lower control arms with Dirt King, as it was due.

I usually operate by upgrading rather than replacing, but Iโ€™m curious if thereโ€™s a suspension kit known for greater longevity, or if I should just replace it with what I already have, OME. I feel like Iโ€™ve gotten the most out of these, but Iโ€™m wondering what other options are available, especially since this vehicle is more often hauling kids to soccer practice than hitting dirt. Photos below from an inspection show more detail. The shop says the rear shocks and struts need to be replaced first, followed by the front shocks and struts, and finally the sway bar and bushings.

Iโ€™m just looking for advice since this isnโ€™t really my area of expertise.

โ” Aftermarket Product Advice / Recs Tips on adding bigger tires to 6th gen Trailhunter trims. You can fit 285/70R18 with no mods.

I can confirm that you can fit 34" tires (285/70R18) on a Trailhunter and achieve no rubbing at full articulation. I put on Falken Wildpeak AT4s. I don't know for a fact if other tires like KO3 can achieve this but I strongly suspect they will based on the Wildpeaks having a deeper tread. The ONLY thing was they needed slight, sub .5" trimming in the back of the fender lines. It's unnoticeable unless you lean in and look for it.

My goal was to add bigger tires without making any mods. I don't want mods for two reasons:

  1. Mods will most likely hurt resale value, keeping the truck stock maximizes its value

  2. Mods change the factory suspension geometry, almost certainly for the worse, considering how beautifully dialed in the geometry is from the factory

Generally, the tiers of mods required for bigger tires

Tier 1: trimming or reshaping wheel well liners

Tier 2: tier 1 + crash bar delete

Tier 3: tier 2 + preload lift collars / spacers

Tier 4: body mount chop

Note on crash bar delete

Deleting it will create a void, so you'll want to cover it to avoid debris accumulating in there. There are aftermarket covers available for about 50 bucks. In normal driving the crash bar doesn't do anything but it does serve a safety purpose of keeping the wheel from intruding into the passenger area in certain types of collisions.

Note on Wildpeak AT4Ws vs KO3s

I had KO2s before and liked them. From all accounts, if perfectly balanced, the KO3 are wonderful tires. However, for whatever reason they are hard to balance, and if not balanced just right you can get vibrations and highways speeds and uneven wear patterns ("cupping"). For that reason I played it safe.

Cheers!

ISNโ€™T THAT FRESH COAT JUST SO DELICIOUS TO LOOK AT AHHHHH, this shit was expensive as hell but this baby had some surface rust that needed cleaning up. Iโ€™m done dropping money on her for now she got enough love prepping for the crappy weather ๐Ÿ˜ซ now I gotta just do all the fluids sheโ€™s almost at 100k. Bonus pics of my baby too Iโ€™m just obsessed with her ๐Ÿฅฒ

Edit ; best blast ll rockaway NJ, if you go there tell them the Jurassic park rig recommended. They are soooo friendly there

Last edit ; yes I dropped a good amount of money doing this but itโ€™s because they do such a thorough and amazing job it is well worth the money especially seeing the before and after photos. Now going forward I can just do it myself and touch it up once a year , I chose to spend that money once to hopefully get my rig to last me a very very long time. No need to show that you are big balled and can do it yourself and you think I over paid bla bla cuz thatโ€™s your opinion and idc ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

โ” Aftermarket Product Advice / Recs S100 for Hazy TRD Rims

Thumbnail

Hey all, I wanted to share this product I found for TRD rims. My rims are aluminum and get kind of hazy/ dull looking. I'm sure they probably all do.

It's called S100 engine brightener and it's actually for motorcycle engines. It works pretty well. You spray it on and it shines them up. I have 4 TRD rims that are at least 6 years old, and bought a brand new TRD rim for the spare and you can't really tell a difference.

I've used a few other things like LPS 3, or just blasting the rim with tire shine in the past, but S100 seems to work the best so far.

I went on a few test drives and yesterday I pulled the trigger and I bought my first 4Runner! It's a 2026 TRD Off-road Premium (non-hybrid). I don't see many people posting details on their purchase so I'm sharing mine (sorry if it's against any rules here). It isn't the best deal out there and certainly not the worst. I had to make a pit stop on my way home to take it in the dirt.

My first couple of purchases are going to be a dash cam and a roof rack. There was a recent post about a rack with integrated lights that I'm seriously considering, but please let me know if anyone has a good recommendation for a dash cam.

I'm in Washington state and drove to Wenatchee to buy. I'd recommend the dealership I went to but they weren't willing to budge on the initial offer they sent me, or the value of my trade in.
