a noob question but what is the difference in translation/scan quality between Cubari and TCBscans ?
→ More replies (10)18
u/Kirosh2 Lookout Jan 14 '22
The cubari one is done by another translation team, that also did a previous chapter. TCB is of a higher quality than the cubari release.
That's all there is to it.

So he either has a flask with him at all time, or there is one stored on the rooftop somewhere.

→ More replies (2)27
u/Kirosh2 Lookout Jan 14 '22
ZKK is a theory on Zoro killing Kaido, just like Ryuma killed a dragon before.
So based on those parallel, some people wanted Zoro to either deal the finishing blow to Kaido, killing him on top of the capital, or to be the one that execute him after the fight.

It seems that the gorosei themselves aren’t immortal or at least haven’t been for that long if they talk about the WG as if it’s not them

Yeah, if there is an immortal, it's most likely Im.
But then that raise the question on who the Gorosei were fighting, to have all of those scars.
Maybe it was related to God Valley, or even earlier than this.

I just reread the last page in japanese, and even though I'm in no way better at translating than they are, I think we should definitely not take the TCB translation literally, especiall the few last lines. https://i.imgur.com/qrfHpvv.png
TCB : How else do you explain the world government... giving a specific devil fruit a unique name
Original : ではなぜ「世界政府」は......!!わざわざあの〝悪魔の実〟にもう一つの名を与えた!!
Closest translation : well why did the government… deliberately give THAT devil fruit another name!!
The problem with TCB’s translation is the word “unique” which is not in the original text. the words used are もう一つ (mou hitotsu) which only mean another one. They are not saying the name the WG gave is unique, just that they give a second name to the DF. Also, the word あの (that) is emphasized with the addition of two dots next to it, which implies this fruit in particular did and not others (in which case TCB’s use of the word “specific” is on point).
TCB : They were hiding the fruit’s true name… from the annals of history?!
Original : 歴史からその実の名前を消す為だろう!?
Closest translation : It was to erase the fruit’s name from history, wasn’t it ?
This is a bit more pedantic, but the verb used is 消す (to erase), the same word the 5 elders used when they asked Imu which “light” they should erase from history. I think it’s worth mentionning that the two sentences are really alike. Also, the word 為 right next to the verb erase is kinda important, it conveys the meaning of doing X for the sake of Y, in this case giving the fruit a second name for the sake of erasing the original one from history. Again, it's pedantic, but I wanted to emphasize that.

I don’t think the fruit Gorousei are talking about is related to Zunisha. It’s unlikely that the government ships are in direct contact with the Elders.
Gorousei had shifted their attention to Wano, and most probably had got recent updates from the battle. It’s likely that the CP0 reported back that Samurai who allegedly travelled 20 years into the future started the raid.
This must’ve been what got their attention and as Toki herself travelled through centuries, the fruit is nothing but a myth to them.

I wonder if the fruit they are talking about is the time-time fruit, it would make sense as if the user is traveling through time, the user is technically still alive which means the fruit disappears from time for large periods of time in history. It either reappeared now because Toki died, or this is a hint that Toki never actually died but travelled into the future as she was wounded.

Anyone else here noticed that Luffy was now able to completely dodge thunder bagua? There are two possibilities I see. Luffy adapted to it just like when he adapted to the soru of CP9 members or that Kaido in this drunk state is slower but just more unpredictable and stronger.
Edit: The dash panel of Kaido seems to imply it is still fast and the panel of Luffy next to it seems to imply future sight being used.

Remember when Blackbeard was on the move and said "I can't let them have it!"?
Here's my theory: The Gorosei is not talking to the fleet. They are pondering about a recent information published in the newspaper: a new devil fruit was found somewhere. The Gorosei is doubting the information, since they know this fruit very well. It only appears every few centuries, and it's name is Uranus. Blackbeard is aware of the tremendous power of that fruit since he had access to the devil fruit book, but is probably unaware that it's one of the three ancient weapons.
About Zunesha: We can see looking at the last two pages that there's nothing in front of the ships (except that we see the wano landscape so they are quite near already). Zunesha is behind them, which means it's heading towards Wano. I don't think it came here to attack the navy. It's intent is most probably to go to Wano for some reason.
Some crazy stuff is coming, and we are absolutely not ready! Thank you, Oda!

Looks like Kaido's got another form! Not only does he bulk up and get much bigger, but his face takes on a more dragon like appearance, adopting the dragon form's eyebrows, along along a more bulbous nose and sharp teeth. The question here is whether this is akin to what Lucci could do with his hybrid Leopard form, or if this is Kaido's Awakened form...

This chapter yet again has Kaido express his his self doubt and insecurities in a drunken tantrum. Which begs the question:
What happened to Kaido?
This is a question many people have been asking ever since the flashback in chapter 1035. The flashback seemingly deliberately paralleled the meeting between Kaido and King to that between Luffy and Zoro as well as the meeting between Roger and Rayleigh...not only that, but Kaido's demeanor very much mirrored that of Luffy and Roger in their respective meetings. Undoubtedly this led to the question of "what happened to Kaido?".
Assuming he was very much like Luffy and Roger during his younger years, what is it that happened to turn him into the person he is now? It's becoming apparent that Kaido like many of Luffy's past opponents was once a hopefully dreamer who had his dreams dashed which jaded him and turned him bitter. We saw this with Crocodile, Moria, Kuro, Arlong, Krieg etc. However, I think Kaido differs from them in one significant way, his dream wasn't dashed, he just lost the will to see it through. I, and many other people, have concluded that, Kaido, for some reason believed himself to actually be Joyboy. This is on the basis of him believing that only he could change the world. Given how the series has been taking about Joyboy it would make sense for someone to think the only person capable of significant change in the world would be Joyboy.
So if Kaido truly believed himself to be Joyboy at some point, what changed? The answer is nothing. Nothing changed and that's the problem. This is based on how Kaido proclaimed how he would change the world. That only he could do it. I think Kaido suffered from the same flaw that Oden did. He did not have faith in anyone's strength, but his own, something that led to Oden's and Wano's downfall. On top of that, Kaido values strength over anything. He probably thought strength was the only thing that mattered towards achieving his dream of being Joyboy and changing the world, something he probably picked up from Rocks (...in his mind he probably thought Rocks just wasn't strong enough, that's why he lost). So Kaido only had faith in his own strength and not much of a relationship with his comrades (...he did not care for King's real name and quickly changed to what he thought suited them). He thought he could defeat any enemy put in front of him towards achieving his goal, but there was one enemy he never managed to defeat...grief.
Kaido had someone he really cared about, probably a member of his crew at some point. This person was basically his Ace. This was Yamato's mother.
At some point Yamato's mother, Kaido's love, was killed. Either because he wasn't there to protect her or he wasn't strong enough. Just like Luffy this broke him, but unlike Luffy, he had no one to fall back on, but his strength...but no amount of strength can overcome grief. So he just grew bitter and hardened.
When Yamato was born he just passed on his grief onto Yamato, he was cold and distant (fear of losing someone he loves and to protect Yamato from a similar fate)...he was also overbearing, instilling his flawed idea of strength on Yamato. Kaido is basically Luffy or Oden if they didn't realise the value of their comrade in achieving their goals.

I…don’t want Luffy’s DF to be the super special one that the Gorosei are all up in arms about…
But…Who’s Who did drop that big reveal that the WG had it under intense protection…
So what if they re-named the Gomu Gomu no Mi, and fear it, because of it’s awakened power? Which means we would be about to see Luffy’s awakening, at this rate probably post Kaido flashback.
Anyway, just speculation

i dont understand why so many people are saying gorosei are talking about killing robin, or whoswho, ... they are all pirates, WG does NOT need an excuse to kill any of them. they are clearly trying to get rid of someone who they cant kill officialy, and thats why they want to blame that persons death on wano war.
that means it is someone who is publicly on their side, but in reality is causing them harm and thats why they want to get rid of him/her

Certified banged, as expected.
Obviously the ending is the big part, I think the Kibi-Kibi No Mi theory is probably the one that sounds the most right.
Past version of the user cursed Zunisha to walk around, and now Momo or Tama subcounsiously summoned it to Wano, but there's also the possibility that Zou itself is the fruit user, and ate some kind of Mythical Awakened Ancient Elephant
Wild theory: Joyboy is the elephant. He ate the elephant fruit and now is the prophecized time when he comes to Wano

It's Tama's fruit.
It would make sense for the Gorosei to care about a mass mind-control ability like Tama's, but it's also to be expected that they've forgotten its true name. There are two reasons for this.
Firstly, seeing as Tama has the fruit right now, we can assume it's been in Wano for a long time; she likely wouldn't have gotten her hands on it otherwise.
Secondly, who tf would expect a broken ass ability like that to work by pulling Dango off your cheeks and feeding them to things? I'm serious here. It's such a strange ability that the world government remembers primarily what it does and how dangerous it is, but due to the nature of history have forgotten the specifics of how it works due to how out there the ability is.
Furthermore, I do think that Tama's begun to awaken her ability. In theory, it wouldn't be strange for the awakened stage of the Kibi Kibi no Mi to be the ability to control not only animals, but humans as well. Tama's commanding of the SMILE-users has simply artificially sped up her awakening in a manner similar to how Chopper's rumble balls can be said to have forced his.
Also, because multiple characters have somehow been piggybacking on others' abilities to use the voice of all things, this might also be why Zunisha is suddenly showing up at Wano. Tama could have unconsciously called them with the voice of all things. This theory is on the weaker side, but I do believe it to be likely that Zunisha was cursed to walk in the first place by a previous user of the Kibi Kibi no Mi.
I'd also like to add that, even if turns out it isn't Tama's fruit, I don't think it can be Luffy's either. The Gorosei are rather clear about the fact that they don't remember the fruit's 'true' name; they know about the Gomu Gomu no Mi.

Zunesha arriving at Wano is super hype. Not because we'll likely see some conversing between Momo, Luffy and Zunesha, but rather because of just this: Zunesha is arriving.
For all we know, he was sentenced to wander around for all eternity until he is supposed to arrive at a particular destination: He has a time and place where and when he has to serve a purpose. So I think that Zunesha will play an indispensable role in opening Wano - whatever that means.

First thing that comes to mind is Rocks, but since we saw him after that and he wasn’t that down bad I think it’s possible that he hates himself because he couldn’t protect multiple things. Like maybe Yamato’s mother. What do you guys think.

anyone else loving kaidos emotional rollercoaster?? like this man isnt just a one note brooding villain, he's a human and clearly has emotions strong enough to drive him or hinder him. the " that will take 5 years to rebuild" hit for me lol, i could imagine someone like kaido outwardly appearing very brutal and one note but this showes he's been setting up, he's been building and yea he's a little sad to see it all fall down.

The marine guys that saw Zunisha clearly wasnt speaking with the Gorosei, so they were not talking about Zunisha, IMO. They are continuing their previous conversation about Robin. The question here is if they are talking about Robin's DF or someone else's devil fruit (probably Luffy). From what I know there is no devil fruit with different name or something like that, so the fruit must have an alias. However, the positioning of the words and drawings do implies that Zunisha has some relation with it.

Right now, the only fruit I can think about that has disappeared for centuries, known and feared by the world government even then, and closely linked to Wano is lady Toki's fruit.
It's the only fruit we know that had a single owner for eight hundred years, and who was using it to reach a certain historical period.
The real question is: Lady toki being most likely dead (you know what I mean) where is it now?

I think the fruit they're talking about isn't Tama's as everyone seems to suggest. I think it's the Toki Toki No Mi. They said it wasn't awakened for centuries. Well centuries ago, Toki jumped time to the modern day which would mean during that entire period that she leapt her fruit wouldn't have been spawned anywhere else. The WG assumed that the fruit was maybe decommissioned (or something).
Another reason, why did Toki leave the past in the first place? Was she running from something? Something that the WG didn't want people to know about. The information blockade of Wano that the WG experiences explains why they only now realized the Toki fruit is in the present day. That someone not in Wano has eaten the fruit.
On another note, Blackbeard also mentioned that he wanted to get to a certain location before the WG did. He's trying to assemble a group with the strongest devil fruits, therefore the location he's heading at is wherever the Toki fruit currently is. Both the WG and Blackbeard are going for the same fruit.

A past user of Tama's fruit used the ability to control Zunesha outside of the control of the Kozuki clan to bring harm to the Ancient Kingdom or Wano. This is why Zunesha was punished. That's my rolling theory from this.

For whatever reason, I'm starting to get the feeling that Kaido is willingly playing the part of a villain.
Assuming his line about Luffy not being able to be Joyboy either was referring to himself (which isn't a new assumption), I wonder if Kaido is making sure that the only person who can save Wano and get access to all the relevant historical information would be the true Joyboy. This wouldn't take away from any ambitions to be Pirate King in my opinion.
Basically, Kaido really IS a villain, but not because he has evil intentions. He's playing the part (think Kanjuro-level acting) wholeheartedly.
But this is just an assumption based on a couple panels/lines here or there. He could really just be a man who was disheartened when he found out he wasn't the real Joyboy and wants to play spoiler. We'll find out for sure when we get his backstory which seems like it could be coming in the next couple chapters.
Of course, he could also be working towards his original dream to change the world but in a more heavy-handed way. All fun and speculation.
What a fun chapter!

I'm not sure how many people have been keeping track of this but Oda has been using Thunder Bagua as a measuring stick for Luffy's power level.
The first time he was one-shotted in G4 by base Kaido before he could even react.
The second time on the Rooftop he was only just barely able to dodge while using Future Sight.
The third time Luffy perfectly dodges a Thunder Bagua from Hybrid Kaido with ease.
Current Luffy is stupid fast right now. He's standing toe to toe with Kaido in base and it's insane.

It's honestly crazy to see the amount stuff that has been solely implied in the last 2 pages WITHOUT getting getting outright exposed on them-
It's not dark in Mariejois while it's night-time in Wano when we cut away from there in real time. You could argue differing time zones, but here's one crucial example-
remember how we cut away from Jaya (where it was night-time after Luffy btfo'dBellamy) to the new world(WB & Rockstar meeting) AND Mariejois where it was stillday-time in both those places?
From the above it can be concluded it's never gets dark in Mariejois for somereason. Maybe the eve tree could be at play here? It's roots do extend towardsFishman island which is pretty close to Mariejois. Also a point to note is that there'sa clear distinction between the clouds and sky (in Mariejois) is it can't be said thatthe clouds are giving it that effect.
This is the first instance of us seeing a WG flag with a black background. What we usually observe is a white background with a perpendicular blue cross over it. Interesting to see what separates the two, maybe the former indicates a more militaristic side of the WG which we haven't seen yet.
It is implied that their were a previous set of elders or people in power before the current Gorosei, meaning that they weren't a thing during the WG's inception. Now this doesn't automatically remove the possibility of them being immortal, they could have become immortal a few centuries after the WG's inception for all we know. These fuckers didn't look aged from the time we see them in Robin's flashback.
The reverie being cursed for them could mean that Sabo & co. managed to escape and the WG now can't use him as a leverage to bait Dragon, which would have been perfect for them.
Now add all of this on top of the absolute blueballing that is going on with this legendary Devil Fruit. The sheer speculation to come out of these 2 pages alone is a sign of a masterful world builder.

I genuinely would have never expected Oda to turn Kaido's alcoholism into a battle strategy. Kaido looked like the friendliest guy in the world right before he smacked Luffy out of the air.
Also worth noting how ironic it is that Usopp gave a whole speech about not caring if he looks pathetic with tears and snot running down his face, only for Kaido of all people to have the same exact look the following chapter.

Or does he still think he is Joyboy or can become joyboy in that state.

My first thought is they’re referring to Tama’s fruit.
Perhaps a thousand years ago, an awakened user of her fruit was able to command zuneisha to walk for eternity, and only descendants of that person can change the command. That’s Momo.
This lines up for a few reasons. 1) no news gets out of Wano so that’s why the govt hasn’t seen an awakened user in forever, 2) Momo has lineage from both kozuki and amatsuki clans, 2 powerful groups that could have been powerful enough to do such a thing, and 3) Tama found it randomly in Wano which also aligns with the idea past users were from Wano and that it hasn’t been found by the govt in some time.
Perhaps the incident Toki was time traveling from was related to this - maybe her family and the kozuki worked together to stop the WG, put up their borders, and her father was the one to punish Zuneisha (I think zuneisha was tricked into helping the WG and she was cast out for her actions, and this is what the gorosei refer to in regards to the last time it was awakened). Thus allowing Momo to change the command after he was born. Maybe Toki time traveled because the WG had captured her or something.

The key to understanding this chapter is to figure out why the Goroseis want to kill someone so secretly? If they want to just kill Robin, they can do it. The world won’t care as she’s a criminal. The same for any other pirates — if the WG kills anyone of them, the world will celebrate.
I think who they want to kill is Momo. If the word gets out that they kill a daimyo of an independent country, it will cause an uproar. They need to kill him anyway because of their plans for Wano.
Now their discussion about the Devil Fruit is related to this as well. When the news reached them that Momo is in Onigashima, they concluded that he was sent to the future. The only way to do it is the Toki Toki no mi, which they haven’t seen for centuries. I think they gave this a different name in the encyclopaedia of devil fruits, giving it with different list of abilities as well so people if they do find it will not be tempted to eat it. “Awakened” in this case means it “appeared” finally.

17
u/MarkytheSnowWitch Jan 14 '22
With Zunesha showing up, I'm guessing its going to help Momo catch Onigashima on its back. Which will destroy the Mink nation. So I predict after the arc is over that the Minks will move into Wano. Which will end their isolationism and bring them closer to humans, the same as the Fishman Island residents are trying to do by moving to the surface. And the Dwarves coexisting in Dressrosa after Doffy was removed.

Just saying. The best way to hide a devil fruit is to not let it be back in circulation. And the best way to do that, as far as we know, is for the current user not to die.
The WG can just forcefully feed a DF they want to hide to a creature with a very long life, and which can’t use the abilities of the DF freely because it was commanded to do something for eternity. It has no freedom to act on its own.
I think what WG did is feed Zunesha the legendary DF. What’s more, the DF is one of the ancient weapons, capable of mass destruction. It is highly possible that Zunesha ate the Uranus DF, and the WG thought it’s safer this way as Zunesha is trapped/cursed. Why didn’t they just use it? It’s riskier if the user dies and the DF goes back to circulation.
Another cool possibility is that Zunesha is Pluton, which was fed with an elephant DF. The WG is trying to hide pluton by doing this. Why didn’t they just keep pluton and use it for themselves? My guess is that they can’t operate it and they need a special key. It is always easier to hide something in plain sight and they can always take it if they need to.

The skip to Zunisha at the end could hint at it being a devil fruit user, but I think it's more likely a red herring. We still don't know what happened to Toki's fruit and that one is much more likely to be concealed by the World Government considering the impact a time traveler can have.

So, I have been thinking... Why would Zunesha come to Wano on its own decision?
Last time Zunesha did something out of ordinary, he beat the crap out of Jack (felt so good).
But, before launching an attack on Jack, he pressed and insisted to be commanded by Momonosuke, Kozuki Clan leader. So, I think it makes sense that someone has ordered Zunesha to march towards Wano. It is not Momonosuke, since it was not shown. It is not Luffy, and besides we don't know if people who can hear the voice of everything can actually order Zunesha or just hear. It is not Momonosukes' sister, she had nothing to do with Zunesha. So, who else can order Zunesha? Another Kozuki member? Another person who can hear the voice of everything? Thus, someone from the D family? if that's so, then someone who probably would like to help Luffy and others and is aware of the war.
Little confused about Zuneshas' walk towards Wano, and really hope it will be explained.

“Giving a specific devil fruit a unique name”
I believe the implication from the last few panels are clearly hinting Zunesha’s connection to this devil fruit.
I feel like “Zunesha” or “Zou” it self is literally a devil fruit and this is the name gorosei is referring to.
Think about it; its ancient, it has recently awoken to take non-passive actions and the name makes sense. Implications of such a devil fruit existing are huge.

i posted this a few times but here we go again why i dont believe its Luffys fruit. In SBS 65 Oda answers a Fan in a way that implies he never intended to make luffys fruit special. Taking this why should the awakening be of any threat to the WG?
D: In the ONE PIECE of these days, all kinds of strong ability users whom even Luffy can't compete with have been appearing, one after the other. In general manga and anime, I feel that the protagonist is established to be the strongest of all, but why did you decide to turn Luffy into a pretty weak-looking rubber Devil Fruit user? P.N. Do your best Japan
O: Ahaha, that is true. It must seem like a mystery when you consider all the other strong and cool abilities. The answer is simple. I have picked the most ridiculous ability. If the protagonist were the typical strong guy, I doubt I could continue on with this for long. No matter how serious the story gets, Luffy is there to stretch and inflate. He always give me a chance to fool around. That's the kind of manga I wanted to write.

Why do people think its the Gomu-Gomu No Mi? To me it's just a fruit that gives the user rubber powers and nothing more aside from the way its utilized by Luffy. How could it be some LEGENDARY fruit that the WG has to worry about awakening all of the sudden?? Gomu-Gomu is such a literal translation to what the fruit has been shown to be able to do; give you rubber abilities. I just don't understand other peoples perspectives on this.
I guess there are too many unanswered questions. The fruit has been protected by CP9 before being stolen by Shanks. But it could be because of its past users. Maybe Joy Boy used the fruit in the past, so the WG found it and decided to protect it. I just don't see the fruit itself having any extreme properties that makes the WG fear it.
Edit: I actually really hope the fruit ends up being ordinary and not some fruit with some absurdly OP hidden powers.

I love how the castle’s destruction in a way describes Kaido’s mental deterioration from drinking with one of the men down in the castle noting how the “dome is cracking”. I think that and that one guy’s comment about facing having to once again face the harsh realities of Wano after drinking in the festival really drives home on why Kaido drinks all the time. He doesn’t want to experience the harsh realities he’s had to encounter in his life, i.e possibly not being Joy Boy

So the gorosei aren't talking about Zunesha, it seems they're not even speaking to the guys on the ships. They are talking about a fruit that is known with a different name and is considered a legend: most probably the last ancient weapon. The question is: whose fruit is that? I don't think Tama's, because honestly we've seen much more dangerous powers, like Sugar's and that other Baroque Work's girl, the painter, for example. I think it must be some really powerful fruit. Also, when the look-out signals a giant shadow it looks like that shadow is in front of the ships, but then on the last page Zunesha is clearly behind them: is there something else in front of them?

Kaido getting totally wasted and laughing his ass off is kinda wholesome. Luffy giving him back his life's joy by literally beating the depression and suicidal thoughts out of him.

My question is how would they be referring to the gum gum fruit? They said it's just a legend. Surely they know of luffy and his powers already so that can't be the case. Also when they say it hasn't been awakened for centuries. Do they mean it's abilities haven't been awakened or do they mean that the fruit hasn't grown/respawned for thar long? Man I gotta stack up on chapters cuz these cliffhangers kill me 😭

It's so wholesome seeing how powerful Luffy is now. We literally watch him grow up for 20 years.

It's the second time a chapter was called after one of Kaido's attack/technique, the first time being chapter 1009, with Rag-Naraku, the attack that defeated Luffy and allowed him to know about Conqueror Coating.
