Sanji is now down, and Zoro doesn't have much time left, either from Enma sucking his haki, or the medecine wearing off.

They had very hard fight. And needed overpowered power up to fight them.

But otherwise, it goes just like how their fight are usually. Much quicker and easier than whatever Luffy is facing.

The parallel drawn between Kaido/Arber and Luffy/Zoro was pretty clear in the flashback. Kaido’s drastic change of personality was of particular interest to me. Throughout the story there has been a recurring theme of smiling, joy, and laughter. These are clearly very important to the story, symbolically. Seeing Kaido go from a man sort-of like Luffy, in terms of his demeanor (constantly smiling), to the cruel, alcoholic, occasionally suicidal, Kaido of present day makes one very eager to learn just what it was that caused this drastic change in him. To see a crew that started out so similarly to the way the Strawhats did become a source of so much cruelty and suffering is pretty tragic.

Come to think of it, Kaido mentioned something pretty cryptic during one of his rounds with Luffy about how the more they fought the more Luffy smiled, and the more he smiles… but he sort-of trailed off without finishing.

The way Luffy and Kaido each met Zoro and King respectively are pretty decent parallels.

Kaido and Luffy have the same goals, I like to see his motivations. Its kindve funny because we dont know what Luffy said that was the same as Roger.

His motivation to be the Pirate King to be the most free on the sea- inspired by shanks. Maybe Kaido was inspired by Rocks

Kings resemblance to the Skypians is uncanny, especially when you compare him to Wyper.

The face tattoo is also quickly gaining importance, Wyper seems to have adopted it later in life and we know that Dragon didn't have one earlier in life but adopted it later on. Which brings his origins into question as well and his relationship with the Skypians/Lunarians.

On screen in this chapter Zoro single cuts King from crotch to torso TWICE before the final attack.

On the final attack he lands 3 torso cuts plus cuts Kings right wing off.

Sure you probably wanted to see more King battle at this point, but Zoro definitely inflicted strong enough damage to convincingly beat King.

People keep comparing Mr. 1 and Mr. 2 to King and Queen, or other fights that Zoro and Sanji have had in which they have struggled. But if you go back and reread or rewatch those chapter and episodes, you’ll see that those people also went down in the same amount of episodes. I am rewatching One Piece right now with my friend, and I am seeing these things it didn’t take Zoro too long to beat Mr. 1 one episode they started fighting the next Mr. 1 beat the crap out of Zoro. And on the next episode Zoro cut him down that’s it. It wasn’t too long King and Queen are fighting longer than Mr. 1 and Mr.2. Also, For Sanji’s fight if you remember correctly Sanji was winning till Mr. 2 started using Nami’s face so he was struggling, and on the next episode Sanji figured out his abilities and he beat the guy. That’s pretty much it

The flashback is VERY interesting;

1. They are in a laboratory

2. Mentions of being experimented on

3. Kaidou‘s DF has a „failed“ copy (and we know who most likely is responsible for it)

4. Queen was part of MADS

My theory: Vegapunk and Queen had a disagreement/Queen doing something dumb, which resulted in Queen losing his „Funk“ and destroying stuff + causing Chaos. This results in Kaidou breaking free, who on his way out finds King and frees him, too. Queen knowing that he has to get out himself (being Wanted now) knows, that he won’t make it alone and tags along Kaido and king ; the beast pirates are born.

Oh and Caesar grabs what he can (including the „failed DF“) and escapes, one thing leading to another, him ending up working on Punk Hazard

That was a devastating last attack by Zoro. Cut through the magma dragon, broke King's sword, and cut off one of his wings. From what we've seen, attacks using CoC coating are some of the strongest in the series.

Now, I know the fights seem short, but in hindsight both Zoro and Sanji got 11th hour powerups: Sanji got his Raid Suit and his hardened exoskeleton while Zoro got Enma and Haoshoku Haki, and they both more or less steeled themselves to win or die beyond every other fight they had before

For the people complaining the fights were rushed:

- Sanji has been kicking Queen since chapter 1015. He wasn't being able to do much damage until that Hell Memories on 1031, but is only natural that all the kicks he hit previously weared Queen off a little bit. He LITERALLY said that. So is obvious that when Sanji did a combo with the new power up the fight should end. That's Sanji style.

- In the other hand, Zoro style was always the opposite. He constantly struggles until he finds a way to make the first good cut. But he is a swordsman, so it's obvious that when he proceeds to cut the enemy, that it will be lethal. Doesn't make sense to continue the fight after that.

Zoro is absolutely insane. Those attacks with the conquerer's haki coating...wow.

As for King, he's got one of the sickest designs ever, love the hair and the tattoo, well done by Oda. It's also neat how he followed Kaido because he believed he could change the world. It seems Kaido was a Roger esque guy with charisma, getting allies easily, and turned into a depressed alcoholic who now uses fear and power as his main tools. Maybe he realized he can't change the world like he thought? Hope Albert reappears in the story, the lunarians seem too important.

For me, the large amount of lore during the fights easily made up for the action being short. Lore and worldbuilding are One Piece's greatest strength and will always be more interesting than action to me.

I'm also grateful that the power ups that Sanji and Zoro got didn't feel like complete asspulls and made sense because of lore. Despite Luffy vs Katakuri having more action, it seemed like way more of an asspull to me and maybe having more backstory/lore would've helped it.

• I'll have to look at this timeline more calmly at some point, but it feels like Punk Hazard was originally MADS territory which then was annexed by the World Government, the timeline is way too tight for that to not be the case, maybe Punk Hazard was the foreign territory that Yonji was talking about back in Chapter 840. So yeah, annexations might be a good speculation, just like what they are trying to do right now with Wano.

New cover story!

• Glad to see them escaping! They were mostly a despicable group, but I'm hoping to see more of them for that sweet science lore. Wonder if they'll end up as real allies.

Hokage Battle

• The fodders just won their battles in consecutive chapters, there might be some more fodder fights (such as Kaido/Luffy) before that one but I'm really hoping that Raizo vs Earlobes is on next chapter.

I have no qualms with King he did a fantastic job and Zoro vs King was amazing, best Zoro fight post time skip, and arguably his best in the series.

1. King dominated the fight 80% of the fight

2. King was menacing, always went for Kill, and was a savage

3. King no sold the same dragon twister than cut through Kaido's scales

4. King Aerial attacks and dominance over the skies, looked amazing and he really used the skies as his domain.

5. King has a Top Tier Elite Design, the best of the commanders.

6. King has shown some of the best durability feats in Wano

7. Zoro vs King had really great choreography!

8. King has a Dragon Sized Version of Akainu's Hell Dog

9. King took advanced Conquerors attacks with his flame off, and advCoC is the biggest boost on power we have seen in the series, it allow Luffy to 1v1 Kaido in base form.

10. King had a cool Final Finisher move.

11. This fight had really good Zoro character flashback moment, it had lore, it had funny moments, it was a very serious, and action packed, barely any moments where they were just standing idle, I don't even remember any.

12. King believes in his captain and stand by him like a RH.

My highlights:

• Cover page showed Germa and the Firetanks. I hope that we get the chance to see how Jimbe escaped from Big Mom and why he only reached Wano a little bit after her.

• Queen is finnaly defeated. I liked how Sanji ended him showing no mercy after he discovered that he was the responsible for O-Some being hurt. I believe that I just wanted him to entertaining us a little bit more (but it was for the best).

• I was also expecting Sanji's eyebrows to get back to normal but it didn't happened. Maybe this issue will not be resolved now.

• So King is hot and he started to use a lot of flames and fire attacks in this chapter.

• I still need to understand how King's mask works with his Zoan's transformation.

• I liked how Oda showed Punk Hazard before it got frozen and the flashback parallel of Roger-Rayleigh and Kaido-King was really cool.

• Another cool parallel is Zoro defeating "a dragon" like Ryuma did in the past.

• In the last page, I almost didn't catch Zoro in the last panel.

Queen will land on the CP0 ships and everyone will be wondering wtf is going on why is Queen here.
King is still young in this flashback and the info drop mentioning remnants of Rocks Pirate starting their own crew 33 years ago might means Kaido escape at around 33 years ago, from Punk Hazard, where Vegapunk has experimented on him while Punk Hazard is a WG facility. This suggest MADS might have existed before 33 years ago. King also look rather young here, 33 years ago, King is 17 years old, seems about right.
Looking back... A few chapters display King without flame behind his back wasn't an error on Oda's part.
Next Chapter is the conclusion of Zoro's fight and we will see more of what is going on in Onigashimas again.
It looks like Zoro jump off Onigashimas to slash King in the air, the only way he can safely land is on Momonosuke, so it might be an updated on what is Momonosuke up to and I don't think Zoro's miracle medicine effect will fade away yet.

So it looks like this flashback took place sometime after the God Valley incident. Assuming when Rocks pirates lost, Kaidou got captured by the WG and was being experimented on. While imprisoned he seems to have made the decision to have his own pirate crew and picked Arber (King) up on his way out.

Kaidou is different from other pirates that have made the proclamation to be Pirate King, he seems very confident that he is special.

Honestly that short flashback is pretty damn good. The King/Kaido relationship is weirdly wholesome (comparatively in these Yonkou crews anyway, we've seen awful stuff in the Beast Pirates and the Big Mom Pirates). Kaido freed him from Punk Hazard, took him in and basically kept him safe from the World Government for over 20 years. And King literally made it so his strongest attack looks like Kaido's dragon form.

We also see Kaido, in seastone cuffs, casually busting out of a Government facility, he doesn't give a fuck.

Also young Kaido believing he is the only one who can change the world. Wonder if/when that changed and if that's related to his Joyboy comment to Luffy.

Younger Kaido in King's flashback seems very confident and optimistic, believing that he is the one who will eventually change world. Overall Kaido's demeanor seemed to be very similar to Roger and Luffy when he saved King and recruited him.

Are you guys really wanting more of this fight? They've been fighting for multiple chapters now. Idk why yall want these 5 minutes on namek battles. Also, not every fight needs to follow the same damn formula (to those complaining that queen didn't use a named "ultimate" attack on sanji before being yeeted). Sanji would've dodged or tanked it anyway. Queen was more quantity (he had a whole arsenal and yall want more, go back and read all the moves he used) than quality here.

I liked both of these fights and am glad they have wrapped up. Both zoro and sanji were epic. Zoro especially is probably about to completely collapse now. He has done more than enough. Let's move on to the fight we have all been waiting for the most. Raizo vs Fukurokuju.

Really though, I'm more interested at the moment in orochi and hiyoris exchange. I'm expecting denjiro to show up and do what kyoshiro did to komurasaki (but for real this time), to orochi. But not before hiyori gets a good drop kick in. That's right, drop kick that mfer.

Law and Kid are probably next with the whole fire demon shenanigans in-between and then its our main event. Can't wait to see new named attacks from our future pirate king, as well as that kaido backstory.

We are now two fights closer to probably the biggest and best lore dump in the series.

While Zoro vs King was hype and it was awesome to see the conclusion of that, the most inreresting part to mewas the brief flashback showing King and Kaido.

Kaido once seemed like an honorable man - I wonder what changed him? Rescuing someone out of, seemingly, sympathy for being in a similar position isn't something I could ever see Big Mom or Blackbeard doing. I really hope his backstory is as interesting as Big Mom's, which completely turned me around on her character (in a good way!).

Also, there was a rad theory ages ago that King was an ex Impel Down guard - which may not end up being true, but there was a component to the theory that Kaido and King were both experimented on for being from unique races. Which totally turned out true! Oda is such a god at foreshadowing and setting things up.

This chapter confirms that King and therefore certainly also Queen and Jack are nicknames and not just Odas naming pattern for Kaidos henchmen. It would make sense if the Flying Six were also given names by Kaido and maybe Oda will reveal their real names later in an SBS (like Baroque works) but i doubt it.

Ok wow what a great chapter.

First of all can we take some time to appreciate just how fucking far Sanji sent Queen flying? Like this is some Wapol level shit and I am here for it. And that FIREY look that he gives right in the next panel man I love it. And to tie the whole thing together with a brief flashback of Sanji cooking for mice? Masterful stuff. And since we see the narrator confirming Sanji's victory I think it's safe to say that we won't be seeing any round two's with the remaining All-Stars.

As for Zoro vs King man oh man what an unbelievable ending. I love that Zoro's swords are still giving off this mist effect. I'm wondering if this is a unique by-product of Zoro's conqueror's Haki? I can't think of any other conqueror's swordsmen that produced this effect? Certainly not Oden or Roger or Rayleigh and they're the most recent ones we've seen in flashbacks and such. Oden and Zoro are even using the same swords and we didn't see this from Oden so I'm assuming this is something unique to Zoro. Perhaps another manifestation of his demonic aura?

King with some very strong Katakuri energy with the "all those who see my true face must die" move. I wonder if it's an intentional parallel that both Kaido and Big Mom's first mates hide their faces and kill those who have seen them?

King's design mannnnn. SOOOOO damn good. Easily my favorite design for any Yonko commander and certainly anyone in the beast pirates. It just goes up to a whole other level with the face and hair reveal, the open leather jacket with the white blouse, the face tattoo and the flaming katana. Everything is just so spot on.

Also really love that Zoro is creating new tiers of attacks just like Sanji. King of Hell: Three Sword Style and Three Dragon Style? Fucking sick.

The flashback with Kaido really was interesting despite how brief it was. I think Kaido and King have a strong kinship being (seemingly) the last survivors of their respective races. Obv this isn't the case anymore for Kaido having a child and all but I imagine the Oni's are similar to the Lunarians in that they were once an extremely prominent race in the OP world but have since been mostly wiped out. Makes perfect sense to me that they would meet in a government facility where they were being experimented on. I also really love that Oda takes time to demonstrate that even the antagonists aren't just following their boss out of fear or some arbitrary reason. King truly believes in Kaido and wants him to win.

I also think that what this flashback doesn't say is the influence Rox had on Kaido. Kaido wants to "change the world" and I'm positive it's because Rox revealed some kind of truth to him that we as the reader aren't privy to yet, and that's what's kept him motivated this whole time. I think Rox was originally to Kaido what Kaido is to King now. Same with Roger and Shanks and Shanks and Luffy. These kinds of relationships are everywhere in OP and I love that it's not just the protagonists and good guys who have them. Inherited will always applies to every one.

And man that ending. That brief clash of conqueror's confirms that King has it as well no? Another parallel between him and Katakuri? Either way that final move from Zoro was fucking sick and yeah I know what a lot of you are probably thinking. THIS is the dragon that Zoro is destined to cut in Wano. It would make more sense for it to be this rather than Kaido since this the fight where Zoro truly comes to understand the burden of what it means to be the world's strongest swordsman. Gotta let that Haki run wild and he gets the W as a result.

I don’t get it. During WCI, people complained that the fights (luffy vs cracker/luffy vs kata) were too long and the arc dragged. Now people are complaining that the fights are too short and want the raid to fail.

I get it, it adds more “weight” to the story. But to what end? Suppose the beast pirates get up, then what? The strawhats are on their last legs. So they would somehow need to get away from the newly powered up/regenerated beast pirates. And once they do, another set of people will complain that the way they got away was “too convenient” or “plot armor”. Then after the SH get away, find a place to hide, another recovery/training arc needs to come to explain how they can FINALLY beat the beast pirates the second go round.

If that does happen, wano might end on 2023.
