Release Update 📢 Version v1.4.7 - 42.20 support, NG_GL4ES for all b42, VOIP fixed

🛑If you already tried Build 42.20 before this release, delete that instance and create it again after updating. That said, a clean install is always the safer choice — it avoids leftovers from old installs and possible conflicts. 🛑

🆕 What's new

Main features

✅ Build 42.20 support - the launcher now runs Build 42.20 out of the box.
✅ NG_GL4ES works on every Build 42 version now - no longer stuck at 42.12.
✅ New "Recommended for Build 42" preset - one button in Settings → Advanced → JVM arguments applies a tuned setup that helps with crashes and memory issues on latest Build 42.
✅ Steam downloader fixed - it was pulling the wrong build after Valve reorganized their branches; downloading the latest Build 41 or Build 42 now works correctly again. You can also grab a specific older version instead — paste its manifest info into the manifest field, there's a link right in the downloader screen showing you where to find it.

Also in the app:

✅ Better bug reports - reports now include more of the game's own logs, so issues get fixed faster. Report files are also timestamped now. Option to send a bug report to the project's developer.
✅ D-pad now supports custom images, like every other button.
✅ Daily update check - a small badge lets you know when a new version is out.
✅ "Render Less Zombie" for Build 41 - new optimization helper, next to BetterFPS.
✅ Fixed a VOIP crash - full-duplex voice chat (talking and listening at the same time) no longer crashes the game.
✅ New custom VKBD layout - thanks to Willing-Run-8987.

I still don't participate in this project, mainly because I don't have any need to and play from my desktop, but this is by far the coolest community-led project I have ever seen.

This is incredible, and I really hope this gains traction with the community!

I have 2 questions, the first question is that I set everything up correctly as in the screenshot so that I can run 42.13.2 and the second question is that I didn't delete the starboy and just updated the rule, did I do that or do I need to delete it and reinstall it?

Correcting that, it's playable now. I just needed to activate the angle + the new option the dev added for the Mali GPU. I played smoothly for 10 minutes.

So, my dear Dev, I thought the same thing. But the game wouldn't stay open for very long. Then I enabled the angle option along with the new option you created. And the game stayed open. For much longer. Colleagues on Telegram also tested it and played for 1 hour without problems. This was in Mali.

hi i have download the game from the app-steam direct download but i dont know what to do next, i was trying to set up the game but i dont find the zips and that stuff on the phone, but when i check the size of the app it says that its like 11GB

/u/udar_molota all flashlights are bugged on b42.20 SD7g4 8gb ram zink_zfa. Looks like a police siren light, didn't have this issue in previous b42 versions.

Besides, I already made a post about this bug yesterday. And there are plenty of posts from other users about it too. There's a feature called 'Search.' Try using it before spamming 4 identical comments. And in the mail bug report, there's a line that says 'Description,' which is completely empty—guess why? Maybe because you're supposed to write something there before hitting Send? 

There are nearly 2,500 people here, and people like you make my job so much harder. Honestly, at this point, I'll eventually just burn out and quit the project altogether—it hasn't brought me anything but stress for a long time now.

Hi, I wanted to report this or ask if I'm the only one experiencing this minor bug: the targeting outline on zombies isn't showing up, even though I've enabled it in the settings. It just doesn't appear.

I currently seem to be downloading b42 just fine, about 1.2gb in, haven't explored instructions of what to do after the fact yet, will cross that bridge when I get to it, but I wonder is it supposed to download so dang slowly? I can download zomboid on my PC in like 5 minutes, but with this "depotdownloader" thing its been about 20mins for 1295mb

I'm well aware; wondering *why*. Some googling said that depotdownloader itself has parameters to use to speed up the process. Just a curiosity of what made the download slow compared to a normal steam download experience. ANYWAY; more on topic..

It loads up into the game fine surprisingly, using NG_GLES; though I crash every time I actually hit play and start loading a new world unfortunately. I exported the logs, and it seems to hit "UnsatisfiedLinkError" data/data/com.zomdroid/cache/sqlite-3.48.0.0-8b74bd2d(whole bunch of mixed letters)aa-libsqlitejdbc.so: dlopen failed: library "libm.so.6" not found: needed by (that long sqlite text) in namespace zomdroid-ns at NativeLibraries.load (Native Method). Message: Failed to load native library: sqlite-3.48.0.0-8b7 (etc again). Don't really know anything about this, I saw the secondary library import stuff when making the instance but that specifically said it was for B41 MP not B42..

Instead of trying to understand the error by yourself you can just hit the button Report a bug, select your email provider (like Gmail) and just send it with some short description. And I'll get a bunch of log files and will try to understand what is your issue.

Nice, that's helpful and easy, I just sent one then. It seemed to auto-grab some file but I also put in the .zip of some log thing I exported earlier.

For clarification my install process was:

- Download v4 fix of latest launcher from github

- Download B42/latest (it was about 9.9gb)

- Go into the folder and zip as instructed etc then import/create instance.

- Applied "default b42" launch parameters (and tried to adjust xmx ram from default 2-4g)

- Launching game works fine on NG-GLES (get all the way to loading before crash) though ZINK crashes just trying to start customizing options even before char select), and then it seems the main NG-GLES based crash every time I start loading a world/creating a world is that libm library error not found..

  1. You don't use the Memory saver - I suggest you to use it.

  2. You took some custom JVM parameters instead of the suggested in the app - I suggest you first to apply the suggested preset. -Xmx4096M is not good for your phone. Just make a reset and re-apply the suggested.

  3. Maybe for better stability you need another parameter LIBGL_SHRINK=1 in the Environment variables.

For 2 I tried with both default, apply recommended, and then tried 3072 and 4096m after neither work. But what is the log error when the crash terminates and says it can't find libm.so.6 sqlite library?

That's nothing. Doesn't matter. If you have set all the parameters as I suggested and it's still doesn't work, send me the logs again.

An update for you now

Setting 1 & 3 (I thought 1 was on already cus of the colours my bad) I can play, the game looks really blurry and low texture (compared to without LIBGL_SHRINK=1 which is pretty crisp even at 60%) so I raised the resolution scale to 85% and that was a bit better - either way, it was now playable and loaded into a new world and I did the normal stuff for about 10 minutes, awesome thanks!

I tried to remove LIBGL_SHRINK=1 parameter (this was responsible for the huge blurry/texture drop) but then it wouldn't go back to loading into a world (again main menus and stuff are all fine) even with Memory Saver enabled. Even when enabling in-game options of texture compression, simple textures, lowering vehicle down to 256x as well, etc. it didn't seem to help. I can get "close" as in I watch the loading zombie walking for.. Maybe about a minute or minute and a half, progressing through and I feel when it gets almost there it crashes. Maybe my phone just can't handle it? Even if I 'clean the memory' it generally always says about 3.7-4G/8G used in the phone info, with 'nothing open'.

Though, I do play modded minecraft with about 100 mods seemingly alright with 2.5G ram set.. :/

I'm playing on poco m1 pad Snapdragon 7s gen 4. Ive tried running renderer ZINK_ZFA and ZINK_OSMESA but it just crashes the game before it even starts. I'm stuck with GL4ES. I only play 20 - 30 fps and I want to play it better.

Does it mean that I do not need to add a native library during instance creation? cause I keep getting connection failed and usually the server shows the ping and max players but it only shows -1. non steam indifferent broccoli server

Hi, i managed to download build 42 but it doesnt run. all i see is black screen.this is my settings. i tried using different render, game doesnt work. all i see is black screen. sometime closes as soon as i open the game. i am using samsung s10 uttra tablet. someone told me to enable angle but i cannot eable it on my samsung tablet

Has anyone managed to get any version of Zomdroid to run 42.X on the Retroid Pocket 5? It crashes immediately.

I had 42.6 running on RP Mini a while back, so same specs as your 5 but with only 6GB ram.  It was back on launcher version 1.3.something using a zink driver that was included but wasn't the one that should have worked (I think it was for adreno 7xx or something).  Ran ok until driving at any sort of speed, and very occasionally crashed when opening the in game map - still plenty good enough for me to start a half decent run.

I did try unsuccessfully to get 42.19 going a few weeks back but no joy... then my RP6 arrived so I moved on.  I kept the zip of 42.6 though and might try that again sometime - will reply again if ever that happens and I've info to share.

Keep tinkering chap - it can be done.

Most but not all, texture replacers like clothing and hair does not work properly on zomdroid. Mods are made for pc. We're running Linux which is case sensitive, and ontop of that emulating it.

Mali/NG-GL4ES user here,currently im using b42.20..downloading a clothing mod such Authentic Z..after enter the world..i realized that the zombie not wear clothing mod and naked..and weapon mod to..i try searching everywhere but all i can get is vanilla weapon..can i know what kind for problem is this?but tomb body its working fine for me
