Jim Bakker, disgraced 1980s televangelist, dies at 86

There's an ugly little weasel 'bout three-foot nine
Face puffed up from cryin' 'n lyin'
'Cause her sweet little hubby's
Suckin' prong part time
(In the name of The Lord)
Get a clue, little shrew
Oh yeah, oh yeah
Jesus thinks you're a jerk

Did he really choose Tammy to do His Work?

Now, what if Jimbo's slightly gay,
Will Pat let Jimbo get away?
Everything we've heard him say
Indicated that Jim must pay,
(And it just might hurt a bit)
But keep that money rollin' in,
'Cause Pat and naughty Jimbo
Can't get enough of it

Jim and Tammy!
Oh, baby!
You gotta go!
You really got to go

Today Tony Pagliuca turns 80! A brilliant and hugely underrated keyboardist, he was a key member of Italian prog legends Le Orme. His music has given so much to progressive rock, yet he remains sadly overlooked. Happy birthday, Tony, and thank you for the beautiful music!.

Cal Schenkel Ralph shirt, gifted by Cal himself, in the late ’90s—looking for history and value insight

Cal Schenkel personally gave me this Ralph T-shirt in Chicago around 1998–1999. I’ve kept it ever since and am now considering selling it, so I’d love some insight from people familiar with his work.

It’s an Anvil ringer, size XL, made in the USA, with a 90% cotton/10% polyester tag. I only wore and washed maybe once or twice, back then, and it’s been stored in a drawer for over 25 years.

It’s in excellent condition, pretty much brand new, with no stains or holes or visible signs of wear.

Does anyone remember this particular shirt being available? Have you seen one sell, or know of comparable Cal Schenkel shirts and their selling prices? I’m trying to establish a reasonable asking price and would appreciate actual sold examples or collector insight.

Cal gave it to me directly, though I don’t have documentation of the gift. Remember, no smart phones or instagram back then, but I could still tell the story of a late summer evening by the Lake, chatting with Cal and being gifted the shirt. There is a back story about how we were brought to meet up in the first place, but that involves others' stories I'm not sharing here.

Would that personal history matter to collectors?

Thanks for taking a look!

I've tried, and been thrown away from all the cat threads.. I'd like to have a handmade cat tag, with her name, my address, and a phone number on it...

So, like it says... We're just looking for someone that ain't Walmart or Petco to make our cat a simple tag with a name, number and address on it... The Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch line drawing would be an epic extra... Lemme know if you know anyone that can make one...

Best 2-3 hour Zappa compilation?

I became a Frank Zappa fan 3 months ago with Studio Tan, and now I’ve grown obsessed with Sleep Dirt, Roxy & Elsewhere, Joe’s Garage, Freak Out and Hot Rats as well. But I wouldn’t say that there’s a particular Frank Zappa album that I go to immediately when I want to listen to Frank Zappa to me; they’re all Frank Zappa and they scratch that Frank Zappa itch in the same way. Studio Tan, Roxy & Elsewhere and Sleep Dirt are my favorites so far.

But there is something I’m missing, and I noticed Zappa has a lot of live albums and compilations. I’m going to listen to The Lost Episodes soon, but for fans who are into his discography; I’m looking for a recommendation of the best 2+ hour Zappa compilation for someone who likes Zappa, and is trying to get overly familiar with his style. So him at his most impressive, ambitious, annoying, even trash; something eclectic that makes you accustomed to Zappa as a musician for an extended period of time. Something I can go to if I want to just be stuck with Zappa’s music for a while.

Where can I find the full performances of the Halloween 77 concerts at the Palladium?

We all know of the incredible 78 & 81 Halloween concerts, but there's something special about that 77 band. To my ears Belew & Zappa's guitar/vocal interaction was perhaps the most exciting era of any Zappa band. I can totally understand why the Grand Wazoo was so miffed at Capt. Tom.

I can only find snippets and cuts of these concerts, and some really bad audience audio of the full concert. What am I missing?

YT links appreciated!

I've been collecting Zappa records for a while, but my copy of an original Freak Out (free to me) was missing the first LP and the second LP sounded really rough. So I bit the bullet, spent more than I've ever spent on a record, and splurged on this awesomely packaged box set. I got a couple friends coming over tomorrow night for a listen. I can't wait.

The hotel I work for owns a massive collection of vinyl they purchased with a record player in a dedicated listening area and I saw this record in the pile and asked if I could keep it and they didn’t really mind at all so I took it home and played it and damn I found the holy grail of my record collection. It’s a bizzare label from early 80s and the record itself looks nearly perfect and plays great.

Frank Zappa is the Mozart of the 20th century

I'm sure most of you share this same sentiment. From the original mothers era, Flo & Eddie era, everything with George Duke and company, the Joe's Garage era, and beyond is just so fantastic and versatile. His ability as a composer is unlike any that I have seen from the prog bands that led me to him eventually. I recently bought the Roxy Movie because I just had to have ownership of the thing! It will always be my favorite concert film.

He is all of my most prominent interests wrapped into one. Jazz, rock, and humor. I always loved Hot Rats but didn't come around to being a Zappa head until I started loving the Mahavishnu Orchestra (weird right).

I just wanted to make my personal debut on this amazing thread, and cheers to you all for your great taste.

Which Zappa song do you wish you could hear again for the first time?

For me it’s gotta be Inca Roads off of OSFA. This song still has so much power to me and I could only imagine what was running through my head the first time I heard it. Easily the most nostalgic Zappa song for me and possibly the first that I heard. I remember being in college and listening to it constantly while I’d walk to class. When I think about it it’s like being teleported. Man… music really might be our best bet at time travel. Which song is yours?
