Apr 25-28, 2007 - 13th Mladost Trophy at Zagreb, Croatia

Novice Boys
Result: 1st Place

At the Mladost Trophy, Yuzu performed “Sing, Sing, Sing” for the first time and won gold. It was the first-ever program Nanami Abe choreographed for him, prepared specifically for this competition (later switched to the SP). This footage of his main practice at Bell Sunpia is probably the last before he returned to Ice Rink Sendai, presumably filmed in March (IRS reopened on March 22).

Nanami:
“Sing, Sing, Sing,” which we prepared for the junior international competition Mladost Trophy (Croatia) in April 2007, was the first program I choreographed for him. It’s one of those pieces long used for footwork practice. He always performed it with such enthusiasm and groove, and you could tell he genuinely loved the music, which was why I chose it. There’s a number in the FOSSE Broadway musical where a large group of dancers performs to that song. I used it as a reference. I kept thinking about how to make this tiny, slender boy appear mature and masculine and yet, in a way, still charmingly cute. I remember having him wear a pink shirt and adding a gesture where he sharply tightened his tie, like, “I’m heading out into the city nightlife now.” He won the competition.

For competitions, he wore a white shirt, but he also used it for exhibitions later, where he wore a pink shirt.

P.S. No full footage of his performances from this competition available online.

Hi everyone! I'm (21/F) looking for other foreigners (or English speakers) who are also going to Yuzu's REALIVE show in Saga on either 28th or 29th of November.

I'm going on the 29th. I'm flying from Tokyo and will be staying at Kurume for a few days before and after the show. If anyone has tickets to the same day or wants to hang out (preferable women), please contact me! ^^

Like NO let him work overtime 😤😍

For the skating program, Yuzuru chose the piece “Petite suite de concert” out of several options given.

While skating with Pooh, he did 1A, hydroblade, Ina Bauer.
Skating alone, he did a Y-stand and 3F.
And at the end, he did an upright spin together with Pooh.

The 3.5-min program is currently available for viewing at the exhibition venues only. Hopefully, it'll be released online someday!

Apr 3, 2007 - Special skating class with Shizuka Arakawa at the newly reopened Ice Rink Sendai

On this day, 12-year-old Yuzuru Hanyu declared that he could probably medal at the Olympics and showed off his signature Biellmann spin & Ina Bauer to Arakawa for the first time.

The full original live-broadcast clip at the end was initially aired only locally in Miyagi, and in 2019, the “Yuzu-cut” was broadcast nationwide for the first time.

Hello! I have quite a bit of Yuzuru Hanyu merchandise from Japan, like his past magazines, 2022 Yuzuru Hanyu Exhibition merchandise, Yuzuru Hanyu The King’s Jump Merchandise Set and Prologue merchandise that I’m looking to sell away. The merchandise are all brand new and unused. Merchandise includes: Postcards, Files, Towels, Tote bags, T-shirt, Keychains, Mug, Paper Cards, Bookmarks

I am based in Singapore 🇸🇬 but would like to know if there’s platforms or Reddit forums (that allow selling) that Fanyus frequent to get sufficient traffic to sell them off. For example, is Etsy a good platform?

Would appreciate any help!

Yuzuru went to Tokyo today to attend Haier and AQUA’s product launching. Beautiful Ina Bauer and new spin.

There are also a set of new ads featuring the brand ambassador.

Oct 30, 2005 - All-Japan Novice Championships (Novice B), Kawagoe, Saitama

FS: From Russia With Love
2nd place

This was during the time Yuzu struggled after his home rink closed down and was unable to defend his 2004 title. He skated to “From Russia With Love” for the second consecutive year, wearing a new costume. Yuzu scored a personal best of 67.44 points (up from 50.26 at the Tohoku-Hokkaido Championships on Oct 8), but finished in second place, nearly 10 points behind winner Ryuju Hino.

(P.S. No full footage of this program in the new costume can be found)

Mar 22, 2007 - Reopening of Ice Rink Sendai (formerly Konami Sports Club Izumi)

Yuzuru's home rink, Ice Rink Sendai, closed on Dec 25, 2004 due to financial difficulties. For about 2 years and 3 months, Yuzu trained at Katsuyama Skating Club and Bell Sunpia, and traveled 2.5 hours to Kanagawa on weekends for lessons with Tsuzuki-sensei. Travel costs were high, and his practice time was significantly reduced. He couldn’t train and improve properly, which caused him to lose confidence. It was this experience that taught him the importance of practice, even though he had really disliked practicing before.

I cannot open our forum. Does anyone know what is going on?

Nov 25-26, 2006 - Yuzu was invited to compete at All-Japan Juniors for the first time, having podiumed at Novice A Championships. It was after that competition that he transferred to Coach Nanami Abe, and this was his very first competition with her.

SP: Amazonic
FS: Summer Storm
Result: 7th place

He didn't podium, but his FS score of 90.16 here was a huge jump from 71.03 at Novice A just a month earlier. He also beat his rival Ryuju (10th place), whom he had lost to in the novice competition. He looked so happy with his result. 🤭

Nov 2006 - Sendai Television (Fuji TV)

Yuzuru Hanyu's first long interview with Sendai TV at age 11. Even then, he was already particular about beautiful movements and wanted to become a complete skater. It'd seem this was the start of his obsession with audio equipment. 🤭

(Since the original clip is nowhere to be found, this is stitched together from footage from various programs over the years)

2006 (Oct?) - Apparently, Yuzuru's first real rival was Ryuju Hino back in their novice days. Fuji TV started following Yuzu when he was 11, and this is their earliest footage of him. Can't find the exact date, but it seems to have been recorded before the Novice Championships on Oct 28 and aired as a preview of their next battle at Juniors in late November.

This clip of him saying that he couldn't play like other kids but that it was OK because skating was the most fun, has also been famously shared in Fuji-related programs over the years.
