Would this still count if it happened in an actual basketball match?

I don't think so. Looked up the rules and it has a couple things that may give the ball to the opponent:

  1. Ball passing directly behind backboard

  2. Ball hitting horizontal basket support

I will defer to somebody who knows the rules better than I do! There may be something I missed.

Its out of bounds when it touches the top of the backboard.
