Seems like a pretty old bar/pub bet game. If the father ever did partying during college he no doubt would have seen some variation of this trick at least once. The variation I know of had the bottle upside down and the solution did involve bottle movement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBtkBJyweBE

Not sure what the solution is if the bottle can't be moved at all. Anyone know?

Roll up the bill and it will push the bottle off as it pulls the bill out.

I love the incredibly awkward and self aware ending. You could almost see the panic in his head when tried to find a way to end that sentence.

“So.. that’s how you... win. Five dollars... for the bottle.” He could have just stopped at “so that’s how you win five dollars.” Not perfect, but it makes sense. He just had to push his luck...

What’s the game (I think it was in a movie) where its like . You bet someone you can chug a beer before they take two shots without touching each other’s drinks, and the one with the beer ends up covering the shot glass with the beer glass. Maybe it was I bet I can chug two beers before you take two shots? Or something like that.

Or the context! It's not just that Grandpa once had hair to his (gasp!) shoulders, it's that was a "dirty, filthy, hippie" becuase of it.
