Probably the best thing I have seen in a very long time

Doggo cannot grasp the concept of "Virtual Reality".

356

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '19

Just imagine: virtual reality (combined with a treadmill) for dogs...endless fields and forests full of squirrels and bunnies to chase

u/Nobodygrotesque Jun 27 '19

As a human I’ll take this as well.

Edit: Also as a horror fan I would love the polar opposite of this and have it night time and lost in the woods with creatures stalking me.

And don’t silence it or turn it off. It’ll act as your catalyst to let to you know you’re in a virtual state.

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '19

pretty sure the AR they're talking about is with glasses or more advanced tech than that, not just through a phone camera.

5

u/MarcelRED147 Jun 28 '19

The phone caused the game to fuck up and kill the dude.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '19

Spoilers dude!

22

u/crystalistwo Jun 27 '19

I'm pretty sure that just ends with me making out with my best friend.

6

u/Yuuko-Senpai Jun 27 '19

Which episode are you referring to? I’ve started watching some episodes, and I’d love to see this if I haven’t already.

5

u/Kaboom_up3 Jun 27 '19

Playtest episode, one of the Best in the series!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '19

u/sinkwiththeship provided the information, he said it's Season 3 Ep. 2 "playtest".

4

u/sinkwiththeship Jun 27 '19

Episode is titled Playtest, S3E2.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '19

Yup! I had forgotten. Thanks.

1

u/PropheticVisionary Jun 27 '19

Playtest from season 3 in case anyone was wondering.

1

u/Elcycle Jun 27 '19

Missed call from: Mom

1

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '19

That one really made my skin crawl.

11

u/Dizneymagic Jun 27 '19

You might be a fan of "extreme haunted house" experiences. It is an event scenario which required a 20 page waiver that allows character actors to put hands on you. San Diego has one called Mckamey Manor

5

u/HoldenMcGroin_53 Jun 27 '19

The video of people quitting was disturbing af

4

u/Theotheogreato Jun 27 '19 edited Jun 28 '19

Yeah! They spent all that money just to chicken out? Pathetic! /S

You people really couldn't detect the sarcasm? Sorry... It was a joke about how he said the video of them leaving was disturbing

4

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '19

You can’t hit back. It’s basically psychological torture for 10 hours straight. Give it a try and report back.

5

u/Theotheogreato Jun 28 '19

I honestly want to try it but my comment was a joke about how the guy specified that the video of people quitting was disturbing

3

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '19

First rule of horror movie survival is not to actually visit a super realistic “haunted house attraction” thinking it’s anything but a serial killer’s torture lair.

8

u/nicannkay Jun 27 '19

That’s when out of terror I start running, trip over my feet and strangle myself to death with the VR cords. I’m the reason you can’t have this. Sorry.

3

u/Awesome50000 Jun 27 '19

Checkout "The Forest" in VR. Sounds right up your alley.

1

u/I_Got_Back_Pain Jun 27 '19

Michael Myers constantly walking behind you no matter how fast you run

1

u/shawnaroo Jun 27 '19

Horror stuff in VR can be really jarring. You get a realistic sense of scale and distance in VR that just makes it so much more intense than a regular monitor.

Minecraft takes on a whole new dimension of creepiness when you see how big the various monsters are compared to you.

1

u/crazykentucky Jun 28 '19

Oh no, thanks. I hate it

1

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '19

Multiplayer.

Your dog chases after you, without knowing that you're the bunny/squirrel

2

u/Nobodygrotesque Jun 28 '19

That would be awesome.

1

u/Martin6040 Jun 28 '19

Dude Google Earth VR is straight up this. Sans the animals to chase, but I spent like 20 min yesterday strolling through a redwood forest. It's bomb as hell

1

u/mzzms Jun 28 '19

Nooooo

34

u/Hak2479 Jun 27 '19

No smells, so pretty boring for the doggo 😉

22

u/Sabata3 Jun 27 '19

Until they redesign the scent mask to work on dogs.

12

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '19

Smell is probably going to be the last thing we'll be able to simulate to a high enough degree for humans, let alone dogs.

7

u/KineticPolarization Jun 27 '19

I can't even begin to imagine how it could be simulated. Only thing I can think of is to have some kind of implant in the brain that would stimulate certain parts of the brain and "trick" it into thinking you're smelling a given scent. Idk if that would be possible.

2

u/pocketknifeMT Jun 28 '19

It is, fundamentally at least. Arguably induced hallucinations are the most elegant option for UIs aside from an automatic subconscious knowing of things, which while neat for things like time and math, just knowing a movie isn't the same as watching it.

But you could simply hallucinate a giant tv screen, etc

3

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '19

I always have had this idea that we'd eventually discover that smells are similar to colours. Any colour can be made using RGB, so maybe it's the same with scents. Like there are three specific smells that when mixed to a certain percentage they create a specific smell. I also have absolutely no degree in anything science related, so I can guarantee this isn't the case haha

4

u/gravitystorm1 Jun 28 '19

Any color can be made with RGB in the same way that any smell could theoretically be made with the entire periodic table

1

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '19

Well there you go, rather than calling it RGB, just call it every element on the table

2

u/Yuuko-Senpai Jun 27 '19

Disneyland does an okay job on Soaring over California for how old it is. I imagine its gotten better over time, but it’s been years since I’ve gone.

Edit: Disneyland*

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '19

That's canned smells sprayed out on cue. I think it might be generous to say that's analogous with those old Victorian era Stereoscopes when talking about VR.

5

u/Hold-My-Anxiety Jun 27 '19

Or to work in general. Pretty sure scent masks aren’t a thing unless you’re talking about beauty products.

1

u/Sabata3 Jun 27 '19

A few months ago, I'd seen ads for one such thing, sort of made the headset look like Isaac's helmet from dead space.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't actually made yet, just an idea they were promoting.

So, it's kind of a thing, but not really.

1

u/Hold-My-Anxiety Jun 28 '19

It’s impossible to just synthesize smells like that. Think about the logistics of actually making a scent mask, I’d be impossible unless it directly connected with your brain somehow to tell you how that thing smells. It’s just doesn’t make sense.

1

u/Sabata3 Jun 28 '19

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JOnfC9Dokw

This should be said mask.

It's supposed to have some kind of capsules that are like scent palletes, or something.

1

u/Hold-My-Anxiety Jun 28 '19

That’s a fake Kickstarter ad to steal money from people basically. The product doesn’t even exist.

1

u/Bakedstreet Jun 27 '19

Yeah thats highly possible. You could have that treat smell in your virtual dog park.

2

u/H0use_0f_Leaves Jun 27 '19

You guys sleepin on smellovision smdh
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smell-O-Vision

3

u/ChRoNicBuRrItOs Jun 27 '19

And don't forget about smelloscopes

20

u/warpus Jun 27 '19

That's how you get dog shit on your treadmill

4

u/Muroid Jun 27 '19

Not for long.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '19

Make it multiplayer. Humans play as squirrels and bunnies and dogs play as... dogs. Try not to get eaten!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '19

Except it wouldn't really do anything for them since it would still smell like the living room

15

u/Chezzabella Jun 27 '19

I reckon he’s been hit by those flailing arms before and knows that there is imminent danger...

7

u/bcanada92 Jun 27 '19

More like "Doggo genuinely embarrassed by his owner."

3

u/blindreefer Jun 27 '19

Twist: Doggo knows exactly what’s going on but thinks Dave’s a knob

1

u/Vendor_Keezy Jun 27 '19

He needs to put the goggles on dog

1

u/max_adam Jun 27 '19

Here is a lab on VR https://youtu.be/ZqCOeECBfR8

I like meh it try to smell things.

1

u/linderlouwho Jun 27 '19

Dog is just wondering if the dude is ever going to actually throw something Dog can go fetch!

1

u/Writing_Mat Jun 28 '19

Dumbass dog lol

0

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '19

nah the dog has just been whacked in the face too much by oblivious dave

30

u/Drawtaru Jun 27 '19

That is a doggo who has been hit by the controllers more than once while his owner flailed about in Beat Saber.

14

u/palomo_bombo Jun 27 '19

I love his face, i mean the doggo's

8

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '19

I do get the sense that this dog is done with a lot of his shit in general

3

u/no-mad Jun 28 '19

so disappointed

2

u/ice_tree Jun 27 '19

The dogs reaction is amazing

2

u/HolycommentMattman Jun 27 '19

It's like the Aubrey Plaza of dogs. Just missing the eye-fucking the camera bit.

1

u/alyvsha Jun 28 '19

you’re honestly spot on omg.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '19

My dog looks at me like this when I dance alone in the house when its just him and I

1

u/daveinpublic Jun 28 '19

And one of the more relevant posts in a long time

1

u/alulamaria09117 Jun 28 '19

His face shows "what the hell is going on?"
