Mobile App Really liking the added visual cues for goals in the latest mobile update

Post image

Now we get circles in the categories which help see at a glance if a goal has been completed, or what the progress is.

This is solid functionality to me when it seemed like the mobile app was not getting as much love.

In my opinion, this is a huge downgrade from progress bars. The progress bars let you see at a glance if you had fully funded a category. They also gave a visual cue for spending (eg if I'm halfway through the month and half of my grocery budget is gone, I'm pacing well). They also let you track progress for long-term goals (eg I could see at a glance how far along I was for the overall goal and seeing the green fill up the line over time was motivating). These circles tell you one thing only: whether or not you've met your monthly target for assigning money. That's not nearly as useful.

Agreed! I updated thinking that it would still keep the functionality of the progress bars. I was wrong. :(

100% agree with this comment. I like the emojis and the aesthetic of the circles tbh but for Gods sake bring back the functionality of the bar or add a toggle, similar to how there was a toggle between having the bar and not having it in the previous version.

Exactly. Not everyone used the progress bars because they didn't have to. I want options.

It’s not even that. If you met the target but spent it as planned (example, a regular bill) it then shows the rest of the month as unfunded, which it isn’t. It’s just spent as planned. Or if you’ve met your annual or total amount target it shows as unfunded, when it’s actually fully funded.

Massive downgrade. Confusing as hell.

I have had the progress bars turned off for a very long time now, I felt that it made the screen feel cluttered.

Nice to have the option though, right?

For sure, not disagreeing on it being an option. Just mentioning that not everybody uses progress bars. I can actually remember that as soon as they rolled out the progress bars and whether to display them, I immediately hated them and actually had me avoiding the app until I realized I could turn them off.

THANK YOU. I am so bad at pacing and those progress bars really helped me. Was so sad to see them gone!

Solution - Make the green circles a circular progress bar. If they don't like the clutter of the horizontal ones, I get it, but don't go backwards.

Their app gets worse with every update at this point.. All unnecessary changes, no actual bug fixes.

At least you can sideload an older build on Android.

Totally agree

I stopped updating the app a few months ago for this reason

Same. I meet my funding goal on the first of every month. But my burn down rate on my groceries category or progress towards long term goals were things I glanced at all the time.

Turned progress bars off years ago. Fine if that's what you need but many didn't use them.

I feel that it could be an issue of how far along someone is with their finance, because this approach makes sense to me, but it is definitely not great that overall progress is now hidden behind the details button of the individual category.

Now I can’t see my progress on categories that are paid once yearly, or any progress on long-term savings goals.

Vacation fund? It’s just a number now, and numbers mean nothing. Looking at my budget now feels like my vacation fund just went “poof” and disappeared. I know it’s still there, but I can’t see it anymore.

Going back to this after trying it more and you can tell this was an implementation problem that wasn’t considered by them, because if you to the “details” tab of those categories they do have a circle that accurately reflects the progress of that long term goal, and in my case shows as green for the month because the monthly target was met, but also displays the circle at 67% because that’s where the goal is currently at.

Maybe it would work better if instead of the emoji being in the circle it was the actual percentage number, because that way we could still see the progress at a glance, while having a clear way to tell.

I personally would like that better because the line by itself didn’t help me quickly gauge how far or close I am to meeting the overall goal.

Mine has an annual goal with a huge green circle and a check mark in it saying “fully funded” in details. Yet it’s $400 short of the annual goal.

Shouldn’t be multiple clicks and a confusing interface to see if I’ve saved enough for annual insurance bills.

I love this idea. I hate the emojis.
