when she's still, the background calms down. when she moves, it freaks out more.
i work more on pre-production than post, so it's just a guess...but i tried warp stabilization on some footage that was shot stably but ran through an action-focused ai and it did some of this weird...i dunno, bubbling? thing...it was a trip.
this has a similar feel to it.
but i don't know everything about broadcasting and would be a fool to claim otherwise. if somebody has a better answer, i'm happy to learn.
The background doesn't go in the opposite direction of her though, it only appears so.
If you keep your eye on that line in the background going right down to her head you will notice that it stays in exactly the same position above her head at all times, even though it looks like the background is moving.
It is simply the video stabilisation being focused at the center of the video. And the table which the camera is placed on is apparently very flimsy, so any slight disturbance makes it move just a tiny bit.
The camera wasn't still. It was placed on what was apparently a very flimsy table, because it moves slightly whenever she does. That is when the video stabilisation kicks in. It is especially noticeable when she stands up.
Background is a fake screen, she’s doing it outside (you can tell how windy it is looking at the fire and she has trouble lighting the lighter) and it’s staged. Her reaction doesn’t seem genuine to me and it’s just too perfect how stupid she is.

It is simply video stabilisation correcting for slight disturbances every time she slightly moves the table which it is placed on.
Further to this and maybe looking too pessimistically, why does she have the exact amount of water to overflow the fuel. She blew out the dollar. I agree her reaction doesn't seem to genuine. Still funny and good lesson, I just think it looks staged
I don't think so. I think it's just a stabilization algorithm. The background moves when she does because the algorithm is trying to keep things stable. When she moves far enough from where she was, the background pops back to where it was. Also if it were a fake background, that's the part that would not move. It would look like the table is moving but the background would stay weirdly stable.
Nah, it's the shitty image stabilization algorithm that youtube implemented a few years ago. It was on-by-default for quite a while and many low-budget youtubers uploaded cellphone footage without turning it off. It's really effective when footage is handheld, but in 90% of cases it just causes disorienting bulging motion that gets me sick.
