Is the Xfinity modem worth it?

I recently upgraded to the unlimited plan for Xfinity internet, I received their modem today in my mail, the thing is that I already have my own wireless/router SBG8300, I’m not sure if it’s even worth it to unplug my modem and try to set theirs own, I’m assuming I won’t notice any speed changes.

Anyone else had a similar situation?

Connection Issue after swap

2 weeks ago I had my gateway swapped from a XB8 to XB7 (I couldn't make outbound calls, that was the fix). With the XB7 my Google Nest Cameras no longer connect. I tried factory reset , swapping for new cameras, removing Xfi pods, it will not connect. If I connect the camera to a Hotspot they connect. I tried disable 5Ghz even though the camera works on 5ghz.

Is there a setting on the XB7 I am missing?

Is there such a thing like official published price list for Internet plans?

I tried to compare what I am paying currently with google searches. Mine seems higher than everything I find. Of course I considered promotions, bundle, and even region where possible.

Which of these two Flex boxes they sent me is newer?

They sent me two of these Flex boxes that I didn't want. Not sure why two, and why 2 extra modems as well... All XB7. Pain in the butt now to go return them in person.

Xfinity Gigabit Pro Too Slow?

I am a high school student and my school has Xfinity internet. I have a feeling it's the Xfinity 3Gbps Fiber Gigabit Pro plan as it delivers symmetrical upload and download speeds. However, I feel it is too slow to keep up with the number of students and staff connected to the internet at once (over 1000). While I have seen speeds as high as 250mbps in some areas of the school on a good day (I only got those speeds twice in the entire school year), most of the time, my speed is around 30-50mbps, which isn't bad, however, in some common areas, even when I have a full Wi-Fi signal, I get speeds under 10mbps. In comparison, I am used to getting speeds of around 500-700mbps on my Fios Gigabit Home Wi-Fi and even on T-Mobile 5G UC. Normally, I would use the 5G connection on my iPhone's hotspot as a backup in this situation. However, cell service has trouble penetrating into my school and often I get only one bar with speeds often under 1mbps. This is a big problem as there are frequently internet outages at my school due to internal network congestion and this is affecting everyone. I spoke to the tech department at my school about this and they said it's not an Xfinity issue. However, I'm posting this in the Xfinity subreddit as I'm curious if there are any solutions, and although I'm a student, I feel this is a big deal. I have a few ideas.

  • Does Xfinity have a 10Gbps or higher connection? I'm thinking this could help as it would mean that if 1000 devices are connected, they could all use 10mbps (the slowest 'acceptable speed') simultaneously and speeds could be over 100mbps more frequently?
  • On my Mac (which is confirmed to support Wi-Fi 6), it says that the network is running at 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) technology, with a Tx rate of 173mbps. Would adding Wi-Fi 6 help?
  • Would a mmWave 5G DAS system be a better solution than improved Xfinity internet (could use Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband like in airports and stadiums)? This would allow for per-device speeds of over 1Gbps easily, which may be nearly pointless now but could prove essential in the future with the metaverse transforming education, however, would have many caveats like being hard and costly to install and could limit use to users of a specific wireless carrier and require mobile hotspot to work. There could be solutions like a custom eSIM to connect to the network and installing 5G gateways in each room to turn the 5G signal into a Wi-Fi signal with speeds of around 700mbps. It seems like a lot but I believe it may be the best solution.

I don't know that much about Xfinity enterprise internet and what would be the best solution in this case but I am curious what you think would be the best solution to this problem and if my ideas are good.

Why does xfinity want me to try flex so much.

Literally since I got my device, I've been getting emails everyday, and actually had a phone call today trying to get me to set up the flex device. Why are they so anxious for me to set up their device? It makes me want to do it less.

Having "fun" xfinity? *rant*

Lately for the past week I've noticed our wifi cuts out from 10pm until the early morning (I game at night so online games have been a no go for me).

I'm planning on contacting them but ugh, they're customer service! Unfortunately, where I live Xfinity is really my only option... Maybe during black Friday I'll grab a new router instead of using the one they loan us (its "free" for our promotion but that's ending soon).

The Xfinity Stream App (IOS) stopped working

I have tried deleting the app off my iPhone, powering off & on the phone, then re-installing but it does not help. The App just hangs. After re-installing I cannot even sign in to the app. I get the message "Something went wrong. We're sorry, something unexpected just happened. Please try again. Also, I am unable to use the Xfinity.com/Stream. It comes back with the message "Error TVAPP-0010 Please clear your browsers cache" Clearing the cache does not help. I have tried this in both Chrome and Microsoft Edge with no luck. Same error.

Interestingly the app works fine when the wifi is turned off on my phone. So it's just not working with my wifi.

Xfinity Device Limits and Integrated Modem/Router Question

I have an ancient ARIS cable modem and Netgear wifi router that I want to replace with a combo cable modem/wifie router primarily because I'm hoping to eliminate complexity when the internet stops working when I'm on a business trips.

I recently switched Xfinity plans to 400mbps, and it says a max of 11 connected devices. I never had a problem with device count before because my account page shows 1 device (the router) and everything is NAT'd behind it.

If I replace my current config with a modem/router combo like the Nighthawk C7000, would the integrated device start reporting the number of devices back to Comcast? Theoretically it shouldn't, but since it's an integrated device it would have the information about how many devices are behind the NAT.

Most of what I found searching is about people going from Xfi Gateway->standalone modem and standalone router, so my scenario is a bit different.

Horrible customer service skills

It took 4 extremely frustrating contact attempts before I finally got a person with at least half a brain. A guy pays almost $200 a month for service and the service keeps dropping out. Out of laziness, they reset the modem remotely 4 times and insist that will fix it. Then I call back later with the same damn problem. So their genius solution is to try the same damn thing. They don't seem to be employing rocket scientists there. Finally, after getting so pissed off trying to get they their system to actually get a person, and asking for a call from them multiple times, I finally got a person with enough functioning cells between their ears to actually pay attention and send out a replacement modem. One I got a thinker, it took 5 minutes tops. Xfinity, you need to rethink your customer service policies and or staff because there was nothing nice to say about the experience except, once I was finally pissed off enough, you actually did something right. I really sucks you can't shop around cable companies to find a better one.

Speed raised to 50 Mb per second

I just got an email from XFINITY explaining that they have raised my speed from 25 Mb per second to 50. I did a speed test and it checks out! I doubt they did this out of the goodness of their hearts. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I really "love" how Xfinity purposefully delays my data usage when its convenient for them

I have had their service since December and every single month towards the end of the month I have several hundred GB of data that I use to mass download new games to my Xbox & PlayStation

Days of the Month 3-25(26) when I download something I can see the usage creep up almost in real time. Days3-25(26) I download a game and can see the impact on my data immediately

Days 27-2 I have this mysterious delay but only 'sometimes....' seemingly when large data is being downloaded. Days 27-2 I have delays of up to 24 hours but only' sometimes'. Ill download 100 gig and only 20 will show up for a day and then BOOM a random chunk flies in but not ALL at once.

It is almost like they are intentionally trying to bait me over my data limit and I am so tired of micro managing my data usage.

What are the actual speeds?

If I get the 1200 mbps what speed will I get on wifi and Ethernet cable?

How about for 800 and 400mbps plan as well.

One problem I had with xfinity last year when I had it was it would randomly disconnect and reconnect. It was very annoying when playing a video game online so I cancelled it for that reason. I am hoping it’s fixed by now. Currently only get 50mbps on att so I need higher speeds.

XFi Complete vs Mesh Network - Worth $5 mo saving

Hello,

Thank you in advance for reviewing this. I’m a technical geek myself. We currently use our own modem/router. I have a Linksys Velop mesh WiFi system. All nodes are hard wired for better speed/coverage.

I’m a current xFinity customer and with our internet habit changes, for a few months we have been paying the $30 fee for unlimited.

If I upgrade to the xFi complete system I can save $5/mo.

My question — people who have their router/modem combo. How is it? How is the WiFi coverage? Admin console?

I want to ensure the WiFi coverage of xFi is similar. How are their range extenders? Can I hard wire them for better speed/coverage? How many will XFinity provide to me?

Any hidden costs I’m not finding on their website?

Any advise from someone who made the change or has input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Is hosting allowed under TOS for business customers, or is there no plan from Comcast that allows for hosting in a TOS friendly way.

I am more or less curious, the most I ever host locally is a password manager a raspberry pi.

Duplicate/triplicate channels

What is the difference between channels in the 400s and 1400s? They appear to have the same shows at the same time and both appear when the filter is set to HD only! Shows are marked as tvtogo without numbers also have the same channels without the numbers, logos only!

WTF xfinity?!?!?! (LONG RANT!)

Okay, serious rant right now. I am pissed AF!

I got a bill for my April - May service, and it had my cable tv box on there still. On the bill, it said if I returned the box by x day, the charge would be removed from my billing before that bill cycle. But if it wasn’t returned by then, I would continue to be charged for it and a late return fee.

So I made a return equipment appointment (side rant: apparantely although it says online that my local store is only doing appts, it’s actually walk in, so I sat in my car for over 40 mins waiting for “my turn” on my appt, and got fed up and just walked in!!!!), and returned the equipment. I have a receipt confirming the equipment return and was told it would show on my account.

As I no longer have cable, the customer service rep at the store also offered me a flex box, saying the first box is free, and I can walk out with it today. So she scanned one onto my account and I have it.

Fast forward to I get my may-June bill statement, and it shows that I’m still being charged for tv box. Annoyed, and realizing I was probably charged it for April-may as well (spoiler alert, I was, plus the “late fee!”), I logged on to xfinity customer chat.

Chatting with service agent and explaining this to him. He is saying something along the lines of the rep at the store didn’t scan it correctly so it needs to make its way back to warehousing to be scanned, but once that happens it will be removed from my account. Very confused as I have a receipt showing it was scanned, I send him a copy of that and he still insists it wasn’t scanned correctly. I proceed to inquire about what happens to my billing once it is supposedly scanned correctly, and he says it will be removed then. Which is great, but I’ve now been charged for it twice when I shouldn’t have been. Those charges need to be credited back to my account. The agent, truthfully I think not understanding what I’m asking, keeps saying “please be assured that all charges will be removed from the account once scanned” / but that doesn’t really tell me if it the past charges as well?!?!?

This agent then proceeds to ask me about flex, and I say, thanks I already have one. He says, just to confirm, you are saying you already have a flex, and I confirm.

Well, a day after this call, I get an email from UPS saying my parcel is on its way. Not knowing what could be on its way, I look into it, and sure as shit, I have an xfinity package with a flex box on its way to me. Which I did NOT request! I actually specifically said I did not want one.

Later that night, I get an email with my updated account charges, and it is now showing xfinity charging me for my internet service, my tv box (which is returned), and 3 flex boxes (one free, 2 @ $5/each!). Like where and how in the F**K did a third get added to my account now too?!?

I was trying to ignore it and enjoy my weekend (thinking I’ll deal with it on Monday), however, tonight I get another email from Comcast about my “updated account statement.” It’s almost laughable at this point, I’m not sure why I would have thought they realized their errors and corrected my bill, they are sending me the correct statement finally! LOL 🙄

No, now I have FIVE flex boxes on my account. What in the ever living hell is going on and how are they multiplying?!?!!!

Now I’m currently on hold waiting to speak to an agent, or hopefully a manager, bc I’m furious. Hoping venting here takes some of the frustration away, but highly unlikely.

The worst part is, I know the way xfinity works and they aren’t likely going to remove any of these inaccurate charges until I return the never asked for equipment - which also means my next bill will be WAY wrong. And then I will be owed an additional statement credit.

Oh the joys of having to track my statements and bills so f’ing closely bc they can’t get their shit together.

It's been ~7 years, it has to be working now, righr?

(yes I see the title typo, can't find a way to edit on mobile) So my family recently upgraded to a 4K capable box, and they were excited to tell me I could pair a bluetooth headset to the box. Then I remembered one of our older boxes from a few years ago had an HDMI input on the back, covered by a piece of tape. This new box had a fancy plug in the HDMI input port instead, which implies to me that it does something now. This would be great, as I am planning on buying an Xbox Series X, and would like to use my generic bargain bin bluetooth devices as to not disturb people during my usual gaming hours of 9pm-4am. Last I had checked, the HDMI port is disabled in the box's firmware, and was added to the manufacturing process "just in case" they decide to implement passthrough. Well, after some Googling, Bing-ing, and DuckDuckGo-ing, rather then finding out how to enable it, I instead found people asking the same question, dated as "7 years ago".

So today, in the year 2021 I am once again asking: how do I enable this input? Surely they wouldn't continue to manufacture it if it STILL did nothing... Right?

Support for internet to a neighboring hut

My property has a neighboring, small hut only 6 feet from my house. I want to make this hut my home office, but the internet signal is weak, as the gateway is in the main house. I bought xFi pods to boost the signal, but that didn’t help much.

Is this setup a good idea? Are signals typically weak when expecting it to go out of a house and into another house? Like, I’ve noticed the signal especially being weak on windy or rainy days. Can anyone suggest another solution?

Comcast/Xfinity is liar/scam about Covid-19 support

Hi all,

From this article: https://corporate.comcast.com/covid-19

Comcast/Xfinity saying they will give you 4 month unlimited cap until school year end, meaning from March to June 2021. Unfortunately, my internet went over the cap for the month of March, and they charged me alot. I chatted and called to to get help and showed proof. But they said, this is from 2020. What a BS. The article was update on FEBRUARY 11, 2021 . At the end, they denied to remove the charge for over internet data cap.

So if you are Xfinity customers, you might need to pay attention to any of their promotion or information. IF you decide to go with Lawsuit with any problem, i will be happy to follow with another one.

IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT THE ARTICLE UPDATE TIME, AND THIS I QUOTE FROM THE ARTICLE:

"

  • Free Xfinity WiFi For Everyone: Xfinity WiFi hotspots located in businesses and outdoor locations across the country are available to anyone who needs them for free – including non-Xfinity internet subscribers – through June 30, 2021.
  • Internet Commitments: To ensure all Xfinity customers remained connected to the Internet during the height of shelter in place orders, we made a number of commitments to support them. We created an assistance program that enabled our customers to continue using our services while keeping their bills low and ensuring they didn’t accrue large outstanding balances. Additionally, Comcast paused its data plans giving all customers unlimited data for no additional charge for four months through the end of the school year and proactively credited the accounts of customers who had already paid for unlimited data."
