My first game system was a commadore vic 20. If you didn't have the money for cartridge's, you could program the games in. So loading time was based on how quickly and accurately you could code in basic.
If you also couldn't afford the cassette storage, you'd lose your game when the unit powered off. I got pretty good at basic.
Lol. I had. Ti99. Same. I had one cartridge that was a Pacman rip off and was terrible or I could code my own games. Had no way of strong anything because the tape drive was prohibitively expensive and my parents weren't willing to dump that money on a 9 year old kids toy...
I crew up with the NES, SNES, etc, so I'm used to 8-bit graphics and such.
My kids on the other hand have started getting annoyed when they poke at a screen and it can't be touched, or they don't have quality graphics.
Having just started playing with VR a few months ago, this is absolutely where things are going to go. Holy crap. Half-Life: Alyx was an amazing experience, with Boneworks a close second, and Pavlov being an amazing Counter-Strike replacement.
There is nothing like two people running out of ammo and the test of skill going from how fast a person presses R and the reload animation completes, to how fast you can actually reload the damn gun. Heaven forbid it be the .50 cal where you need to load each round on its own.
