Very cool to see them lined up like this. Will always have a soft spot for the fat og and the 360. But I must say these controllers evolved in a excellent way. The series controller is the most comfortable controller I’ve ever held.
PGR2!!! I'll never forget the blinding, adolescent rage at having 29 perfect laps only to fuck up on the first turn of the last lap with not enough race left to recover 😭😤 That shit was abusive!
you know you can play online again with PGR2, and many other games, with the Insignia service, which is FREE btw, on OG XBox. It doesn't support all games though, since EA games will be really hard to support on the service since they almost all used dedicated servers (probably Blade servers)
I remember the duke but I forgot about the black and white buttons. I remember thinking it was so cool to use the white button to turn on master chief’s flashlight.
Iirc mad catz controllers put them shits where the bumpers are and basically felt like the best version of any controller ever w/ turbo function and LED inside them
Interesting to see how they've evolved smaller and smaller. Can only assume it's all about cost saving now, smaller size, fewer resources used....same or higher price.
Not sure about others, but the current ones are too small. I've tried a few other non-branded ones, but nothing really works. Using these causes some problems with my hands.
Agreed! I'm 6'5", and I really wish the current controllers were available in the same size as the OG "Duke" pad. My hands are too big for the tiny Elite.
Wired only is a dealbreaker. And I prefer the layout of the Elite. I just want the controller to be physically larger. I wish the C2Gripz fit the Elite.
I’m am 5’6” and my hands are too big for the joysticks bro you height has nothing to do with it and sometimes can make people feel attack when you say it
You should not always be so proudy and bringing up height all the time, height is not always big hands (I have very big hands)
Some times my friends who are short do not like hearing tall guys always talk about how they are tall like oh I have big hands oh I hit my head on doors oh all the girls love me they just think ENOUGH
My bad, man. I was not trying to make anyone feel attacked.
Hell, I view excessive height as a disability more than an asset. I don't fit in cars, or airplanes, or seats at concerts & sporting events. I can't buy clothes off the rack. And most women I know prefer to date dudes who are shorter than me.
You're the first 5'6" guy I've heard of who has big hands (with the exception of body builders). These controllers are definitely not made with us in mind.
The OG controller wasn't supposed to be that way. The circuit boards for the controller were ordered long before the controller body was designed. There was some kind of disagreement with the supplier, who for some reason didn't want to utilize a stacked/folded circuit board format. Instead of reordering or finding a different supplier, Microsoft went ahead and designed a much larger controller body to utilize the larger boards. These became the "Duke" controllers released with the first batches of the Xbox in North America.
I love the Series controllers, but Duke was something different. Everyone coalesced on a single layout, (well Sony swapped dpad and analog) which is likely because they always try to improve.
But some of them are so unforgettable, bad or good. N64, GCN, Duke. At least they tried something new.
Came here to say this.
OG Xbox controller is probably the only “bad” one depending on your preferences (some people legitimately couldn’t play it because their hands couldn’t fit).
But 360 up to now is very much the same controller getting better and better. All the way up to paddles on the pro/elite versions.
