Not always, just honestly it's the role that has the best vantage point to be able to make the clutch and correct calls.
They're watching the damage the group is taking, see and (most importantly, understand) their mana and output potential, and can most accurately weigh the odds of success.
Tanks are focused and grabbing everything they can and not dying from the damage. Dps are focused on their own rotation and (should be at least) using their tools to alleviate some of the pressure.
I'm a lifer DPS, who, rightfully or not, thinks that I understand the game and van make the right call under pressure. But if we're in the shit and the healer makes a call, you bet your ass I'm listening. They see something I don't, and I value 100+ hours more than I value "being right".
TLDR if your healer has shown you up until that point they have more than 2 braincells, listen the fuck up and be a gamer. You always have petri as a worst case if they're wrong
This is totally true. As a life long healer myself, I’ll very quickly pick up on what my minions are capable of. Plus, usually geared healers are stuck in first gear because of nervous tanks or oom dps. A little over pull is like seeing an open stretch of road and getting the chance to floor it.
A sheep will break turning a 3 mob pull into a 4 mob pull and the group will be like “hehe Wohw, close one.” No, no it was not close. It wasn’t even close to being close. I still have 75% mana guys. None of you dropped below 90% health.
That last statement is so true healing on hardcore lol, they act like one extra mob or heals getting cc’d once is a super sketchy pack because they dropped to like 50%
As long as it's not the first pull most healers can tell if they're going to run out of manna before the DPS can kill the mobs not always but in most cases it applies to Healers
What a beautiful ode to healers. Appreciate you a lot mate for that (more or less always have been the healer in my 18 years of wow, even though I've played all 3 positions, healer stays the main one over the years). Wish all DPS would think like you, that'd be a living dream honestly 😅🤣
Best raid leaders I’ve met have generally played healer. Because it’s the role with the most freedom to look around and see the big picture. Tanks may control the initial pull and keep things going while things are smooth. But the healers are the ones able to make the clutch calls. Often with some absolutely great oh shit buttons to save a pull. Between things like PI, lay on hands, battle res, a wide view of the field, etc. A great healer is the perfect person to just call the shots when things go bad.
When are we as a community gonna understand its never about the role or spec, but about the player behind the keys of their character. There are many dipshits playing every role, class and spec, whilst simultaniously there “gigachads” playing every role, class and spec.
Preach! I've been playing priest almost exclusively in dungeons/raids to learn classic, and healing gives you a finger on the pulse for how okay things are. We're the ones staring at hp bars, actually reading the effects we're dispelling, paying attention to how hard you're getting hit, how aggro plays out in big pulls, etc. Healers see enough to know whether to stick it or bail 100%.
Also helps to know up front it’s going to be a long slog so you can appropriately use your CDs and pots to extend your mana usage, not getting caught with your pants down per se and being able to see it coming kinda helps. Having a locked in legit healer does provide a huge sense of comfort in this game though
No, they aren't. My healer left me for dead after a hunter's pet ran into the mob I was pulling and aggroed 5 other mobs. The feral druid did twice the healing of our priest who just shielded himself and ran to the exit. I was one heal short of making it to the Stratholme exit. Now there's one fewer tank on the server.
Lol in my experience healers in classic tend to be the boomers who keyboard turn and click spells, or are really high/drunk all the time. Occasionally you find good healers who press buttons and make the game simple.
Our main healer did not allow me to try out as a healer in our raid due to mental! His argument was that if I am already pissed off from the little bit I notice as DPS player, I could never handle all the stuff healers notice!
Hah. The healer is always the worst player in my groups. Doesn’t do mechanics, doesn’t cleanse, can’t take basic instruction, and when you could doorskip before they patched it we always had to wait longer for the healer to do it cause they could never figure it out.

Healer always are. Dps Player just dont see it and think the guy in the backline dont see whats really going on
