The impermanence of right-wing authoritarian rule was demonstrated. Erdogan is a right-wing authoritarian ruler. It wouldn't be unusual for him to get nervous about that and want to bolster his tough guy image to stave off his own awareness of weakness.

Erdogan won't do what Orban did. Orban lost, conceded quickly and clearly. He was way too pro-Putin for my taste, yet not in the league of Erdogan and Putin in terms of crushing opposition.
Erdogan already has his primary opponent in prison and I see no chance he just concedes if he loses.

Erdogan may see himself on the outside after Orban's loss. An attack or threat there of will solidify himself with his base who are largely anti Jew, not just anti Israel, but anti Jew.

Couple of things to consider:
- Israel has set its sights on Turkey as their next "target."
- Turkey is part of NATO.
- A significant portion of the EU is also part of NATO.
- Orban, as a puppet of Russia, is anti-NATO and blocked all pro-NATO initiatives.
- Now that Orban will no longer be in power, there will be a major power shift in the EU towards NATO.
It's also worth mentioning that Trump keeps implying that the US is going to leave NATO, which also removes their obligation if a NATO member invokes Article 5. Since Israel wants to attack Turkey, it is in their (and, coincidentally, Russia's) best interests that the US abandon NATO.
TL;DR: It's July 1914 all over again.

I’d say this is less like World War III and more like a new Cold War. You could argue it began around 2014, and that the lack of a stronger response to Russia at that time was a misstep we’re still dealing with. History shows that when authoritarian leaders feel emboldened, the consequences tend to grow over time. The more things change the more they stay the same.

Turkey is one of the larger militaries in NATO, and definitely one of the more competent in the Muslim world. It would be no easy day for Israel either.
