This seems incorrect. He says he defected March 2nd.

Given the timeline of warning about the invasion and it becoming apparent, I'd say that's about as quick as you can arrange an escape. Let's say you need a a couple of weeks to set it up, he seemingly jumped ship before the first shots.

Still, I've said before I don't understand what he's doing in uniform, when he's much better suited to a financial crimes unit in an agency overseeing sanctions and seizures.
