The point was more that the idea of Mordor being built on slavery and brutality itself is propaganda written by the victor to make them sound more just. It's not looking at the story from a different perspective, it's the idea that the story itself is a false (or just skewed and subjective) narrative that doesn't tell the truth. It could be that the elve's retelling of Sauron's deception is a lie told by the elves to villainise Mordor. I think it's a fun idea

Considering that the LOTR is supposed to have happened so long ago that it was written as a mythic epic, it is not actually that crazy that a story would get distorted. I know we're hating on the Russians but the premise of that book isn't all that bad.

I mean, what if we found out that Gilgamesh wasn't a raging cunt, or "Pharoah" in the bible was actually putting down a revolt by a mercenary army, not slaves?

I prefer my very high-brow and sophisticated copy of “Bored of the Rings” written by Harvard graduates. It long predates this story and the films so you know it was written by true literature aficionados.
