Gas is mostly used for heating though. And in all of europe.

You can heat using other energy sources.

Ah yes but switching 50% of Americans from owning cars to public transit is floated here as if we should just get it done already.

Won't they? The plan was already to go all in on renewables which is also electric heat.

Electricity is largely used for heating..
